“Be united with other Christians. A wall with loose bricks is not good. The bricks must be cemented together.”
(Corrie ten Boom 1892–1983)

When the trials and storms come, we see the strength we find in each other. The glue or cement is the bond that comes from sticking with each other and encouraging each other in prior tests. The apostle Paul in Galatians 6:2 encourages us with these words:
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
"God, let us find stability in our relationship with others through Your love.
Amen."

“A good man makes no noise over a good deed, but passes on to another as a vine to bear grapes again in season.”
(Marcus Aurelius Antoninus 121–180)

You’ll not have to brag on yourself when it is your first nature to do the right thing. I have watched as quiet men let their works speak for themselves, and we have all been blessed by their actions. The writer of James 5:12 gives us this advice:
“Let your yea be yea and your nay be nay.”
When we do that, our actions will speak louder than words.

"God, let us live daily pointing others to You.
Amen."

Two Cub Scouts, whose younger brother had fallen into the lake, rushed home to mother with tears in their eyes. One of them sobbed, “We try to give him artificial respiration, but he keeps getting up and walking away.”

It is good to assess the situation in rendering help. Sometimes to help someone else all that is necessary is for us just to pray. When our intentions are right, God knows our thoughts. Jesus said in Matthew 25:45,
“Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.”

"God, let us show Your love at all times.
Amen."

They Are In Heaven

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ... all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Christina speaks today about some helpful advice that she received after losing her loved one.

"Remember that they are in heaven waiting for me."
Christina

Father, Yahweh, Just as King David was comforted by the thought that he would one day meet his lost son in Heaven ... may we remind ourselves ... and comfort ourselves ... with the same biblical truth.

The story is told of young Charles Darwin, who one day was eagerly holding one rare beetle in his right fist, another in his left fist, when suddenly he caught sight of a third beetle. Immediately, he knew that he must have that insect for his collection. What to do? In a flash, he put one of the beetles in his mouth for safekeeping and reached for the third beetle with his now free hand. Unexpectedly, the mouth-imprisoned beetle squirted acid down Darwin’s throat, and in a fit of coughing, he lost all three beetles.

In the story of Jesus' visit to His friends, Mary and Martha, we see that Mary--even in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the moment--kept her focus on Him. The writer of Luke 1:42 tells us,
“Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.”
Sometimes for us just to sit and listen is the best way for us to understand it all.

"God, help us to slow down and keep our focus on You even in the storms. Be with the families who lost family and or property in the storms this week.
Amen."

Global Warming Rap

This is just too funny to pass up. It's a "hot" new "rap" song telling kids to ride the bus instead of their cars, etc. to save our planet from ... global warming.

Following are the actual words. You can go to the link to listen to this masterpiece of modern technology.

Come on and Click it, flip it, turn the handle to the right, turn off the water, twist the handle real tight. Slip on your sneakers, lace em up tight, leave the car parked you know that’s alright. Public transportation is the way to go, it’s one of the ways to keep emissions low, you can ride your bike, instead of the car, if we save on fuel then we’ll all go far.

I said Click it, flip it, turn the handle to the right, turn off the water, twist the handle real tight. Slip on your sneakers, lace em up tight, leave the car parked you know that’s alright. Public transportation is the way to go, it’s one of the ways to keep emissions low, you can ride your bike, instead of the car, if we save on fuel then we’ll all go far.

You can pick up paper and recycle it too, and there are many other things that you can do. You can click off the game boy, flip off the light, while you’re brushing your teeth, turn the handle to the right. Close the fridge door - keep it shut tight, no food has been added since the middle of the night. A 5 minute shower is all that’s needed to keep energy from being depleted. A long sleeve sweater is what I know – will keep you toasty and the fuel bills low. Plant a tree in your neighborhood, besides giving shade you know it looks real good.

The USA is where we are to kick a new trend and to raise the bar. The climate is changing and that’s a fact, bears don’t know when to take a nap, On top of that it won’t be cool when the flood waters rise and mosquitoes rule. It’s time to get off the couch and start to move.

Now ... I wonder how much CO2 was released through using the evil modern technology to produce this classic?

"Likely to breech the peace and incite violence."

Following is just classic commonsense from the Borg Conspiracy

Our founding fathers were pretty crafty old birds. They knew of man's intrinsic God given rights and freedoms and of man's occasional propensity to become carried away with himself in the pursuit of them. That is why after they crafted the US constitution, their first order of business was to set about the specifics of constitutionally protected activities and they set about to clarify precisely what protected speech meant.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

What most Americans are not familiar with? Is the latter part of that amendment. The last sentence that has apparently become bleached out with time and no longer readable. Those in Michigan are familiar with it though......
Pastor Terry Jones leaves Dearborn, vows to return for protest next week Controversial Quran-burning Pastor Terry Jones left Dearborn Saturday after unsuccessfully staging a protest outside of the Islamic American Center, but not before vowing to return the following week for another protest.

Jones and his associate Wayne Sapp left for Florida, but say they'll hold a protest at 5:00p.m. next Friday. This time, however, it will not be at the Islamic center, it will be at the courthouse. Jones says his constitutional rights were denied when he was arrested and unable to protest on Friday.

The development came after a jury found a proposed protest by Jones and his associate Wayne Sapp outside the Islamic Center of America, the largest mosque in the United States, was likely to breach the peace and incite violence.

The juries of Dearborn and their judges certainly know about the entire wording of the amenment.

Their 1st amendment reads thus......

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances, unless such actions are likely to breach the peace or incite violence and under those circumstances, the above listed rights become null and void."

Apparently, all those years of propping up the constitution on the steps of the Capital every 4th of July in the sun took their toll. Apparently that last sentence was bleached out and lost to immediate recognition and posterity. But luckily those in Dearborn and other communities saw fit to write it down and secret it away for future references and later decades.

I guess this must have been what happened a few years back concerning abortion and a few other recent rulings by the Supreme court. They must either have special glasses that permit the reading of the faded parts of the constitution? Or they have their own private copies that they reference when the need arises.

In either event, the original intent of the first amendment obviously was never intended to protect unpopular or antagonistic speech when it involved Muslims. Unless of course that speech is defended by the ACLU or those representing entities like the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka Kansas. When those two entities are involved? Everyone immediately knows where the constitution stands on the matter of freedom of speech and who's rights will be protected when it involves the ACLU.

As it concerns pastor Terry Jones and his desire to protest against Muslims? My recommendation to him would be this. Stop pursuing the idiocy of and illegality of protests that are likely to incite violence or breech the peace. Pastor Terry should stick with the known and the easily defensible and the approved activities that are unquestionably constitutionally protected.

Pastor Terry should gather his followers and make signs and head down to the nearest mosque during the next funeral. And he and his followers should be there at these mosques as frequently and as often as possible and at every funeral there after.

What should the free speech signs say?
"Thank God for Predator Drones and Hellfire missiles!" Allah hates woman's faces! Allah's wrath be upon you! Allah hates America! Allah hates infidel Arabs!"

Make the signs rainbow colored and prop them up in the hands of women children. Maybe add a crescent here and there for added panache. Certainly the US Constitution and our courts will be more than happy to intercede and protect pastor Terry Jones and his speech then right? I mean, it's more about approach than content right?

“You can't run away from trouble. There ain't no place that far.”
~Uncle Remus

When you try to get away from trials they will still catch up to you. God never promised that life would be without pain or trials, but He does tell us He will not let us go through it by ourselves. Jesus says this in Matthew 28:20,
“I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”

"God, Thank You for Your presence in the midst of our struggles.

“Thank God every morning when you get up that you have something to do that day which must be done, whether you like it or not.”
(Charles Kingsley 1819–1875)

What a difference most folks would think today. Most people would give thanks for a morning when they could just have time for themselves. The truth is we should give thanks to God either way. The apostle Paul says in Ephesians 5:20,
“Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

"God, Thank You for each opportunity you give us whether a task, or a moment to share with you.
Amen."

The Chaplains Corner

The Chaplains Corner

Guest blogger, Chaplain Paul, is one of the most effective chaplains in America today. He is an emergency responder to every situation.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again, and it's Easter.

One of our Easter traditions is the egg hunt. Children love to search for Easter Eggs; many are plastic eggs filled with surprises. I think the idea of surprise is
most appropriate for Easter. Easter is all about SURPRISES. In fact everyone, except God, was surprised by Easter.

The Roman guards were certainly surprised by the angel moving the stone . . . Consider the surprise of the women who went to the tomb with spices to anoint a dead body . . . Peter and John were absolutely surprised to find the tomb empty . . . And later a group of frightened disciples that had locked themselves in a room were undoubtedly surprised then Christ supernaturally appeared.

Now, how surprised do you think Peter was that Jesus took him back? On that first Easter morning Peter got a Special Delivery Message. In Mark 16 the angel told the women at the tomb, "Don't be afraid! You are looking for Jesus . He is risen! . now go and tell his disciples and especially Peter ." (v. 6-7)

Wow, can you believe that - 'especially Peter'! Listen if you've blown it, if you've sinned - again, if you have made the same mistakes over and over, the surprise of Easter is; if the Lord still wanted Peter - He still wants you.

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Matthew 28:6

These words were probably a little confusing and maybe even troubling for the followers of Jesus in His day, but they are a shout of victory for us. After all they proclaim the reason for our celebration not only today, but year round. He is alive!

“It was Friday, But, Sunday is coming!”
(Dr. Tony Campolo)

I will never forget hearing Tony Campolo present this speech live in front of thousands of Christian men at the Cowboy Stadium during a Promise Keepers rally. Every Friday, I still feel the anticipation in looking forward to worship on Sunday. Being in God’s house on Sunday is as much a driving force in my life as it was for Jesus. The writer of Luke 4:16 says,
“Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day.”

"God, thank You for the difference a day of worship makes.

"If you check out the life of Jesus, you will discover what made him perfect. He did not attain a state of perfection by carrying around in his pocket a list of rules and regulations, or by seeking to conform to the cultural mores of his time. He was perfect because he never made a move without his Father."
(Tom Skinner)

How many of us would have been better off consulting our dads about certain opportunities before us, or pitfalls in front of us, and taking their advice? How much greater still if our plans were made in always following the will of our heavenly Father? Knowing the choices Jesus made were right, let us take His advice in John 12:26 as He said,
“If any man serve me, let him follow me.”

“I want what God wants, that’s why I am so merry.”
(Saint Francis of Assisi c. 1181–1226)

Many folks think God just has a list of "Don’ts" or "Thou Shalt Nots." Those beliefs cloud the picture of how they feel about Him. The truth is they are having trouble being happy because they want what they want, and since they don’t always get their wants and wishes, they are sad. The wise writer of Proverbs 17:22 says,
“A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”
Yes, if we seek the world and its riches, we will be disappointed, but if we seek the Lord and follow His leadership, our hearts will be merry and our lives filled with hope.

There are storms in the forecast for all week. Some of the storms are weather-related; some are storms of life. We can rest assured we are never left alone in either of these challenges. The apostle Paul in Hebrews 13:5-6 tells us of God’s faithfulness with these words from the Lord:

"Christians have fallen into the habit of accepting the noisiest and most notorious among them as the best and the greatest. They too have learned to equate popularity with excellence, and in open defiance of the Sermon on the Mount they have given their approval, not to the meek, but to the self-assertive; not to the mourner, but to the self-assured; not to the pure in heart who see God, but to the publicity hunter who seeks headlines.”
(A. W. Tozer 1897–1963)

Because things have not improved but have proven to be worse than half a century ago, I can only imagine what Tozer would say today if he were here. Even in the midst of such disruption and hardships, it is good to know that God is still on His throne and in control, exercising great patience and mercy toward us, knowing all will stand before Him in the eternity. Let us look at these words of the apostle Paul in Philippians 4:10-11:
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Effort to Abolish Capitalism ... from the White House?

xtnyoda reported yesterday on our EPA's head meeting with the socialist movements leadership summit, Power Shift 2011, in Washington this weekend. Their stated goal is to abolish Capitalistic Governments ... the US being one such government. Guess who 12 of their leaders were invited for a personal meeting with at the White House yesterday? None other than President Obama.

President Barack Obama drops by a meeting with PowerShift Leaders in the Roosevelt Room of the White House, April 15, 2011. Seated next to President Obama are Nancy-Ann DeParle, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, and Jon Carson, Director of the Office of Public Engagement. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)

Seriously, should our President be meeting with any organization whose stated goal is to abolish Capitalism?

And again ... the MSM is totally mute on this.

EPA head is Keynote Socialist Speaker

News Busters is busting some pretty interesting news that the MSM is ignoring. Our EPA head, Lisa Jackson, is the featured speaker at a national conference of youth directed socialists ... whose stated goal is to destroy "capitalism" and establish a one world socialist and environmentalist government. And this openly based on the socialist philosophies of Marx, Lenin and Trotsky.
On Saturday, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency Lisa Jackson will be giving the keynote speech at the Energy Action Coalition's Power Shift 2011 conference, a meeting of potentially 10,000 green youth activists in Washington, D.C.

According to the schedule, President Obama's former green jobs czar Van Jones will be speaking Friday evening, and members of the International Socialists Organization will be hosting a panel discussion Saturday:

Van Jones is a globally recognized, award-winning pioneer in human rights and the clean-energy economy. Van is a co-founder of three successful non-profit organizations: the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Color of Change and Green For All. He is the best-selling author of the definitive book on green jobs: The Green-Collar Economy. He served as the green jobs advisor in the Obama White House in 2009.

For those unfamiliar with EAC, its website claims:

Energy Action Coalition is a coalition of 50 youth-led environmental and social justice groups working together to build the youth clean energy and climate movement.

Working with hundreds of campus and youth groups, dozens of youth networks, and hundreds of thousands of young people, Energy Action Coalition and its partners have united a burgeoning movement behind winning local victories and coordinating on state, regional, and national levels in the United States and Canada. [...]

Energy Action Coalition is committed to building a diverse and inclusive movement to solve the climate crisis and address environmental and economic injustice.

Here are some of the workshops and breakout sessions available to attendees:
From the BP Oil Spill to the Japanese Nuclear Crisis: Why Capitalism is Killing the Planet

The past year alone has highlighted the massive toll taken on our planet by the coal, oil, and nuclear energy industries. Yet President Obama continues to support these three industries, which have produced not only ecological catastrophe but also widespread human suffering. This panel will discuss why this is the case, how it is linked to a system of global capitalism that puts profit before the needs of human beings and the planet, and how we can move beyond the capitalist ecological crisis.

Panelists
Chris Williams, International Socialist Organization
Heather Kangas, International Socialist Organization
Amanda Duzak, International Socialist Organization

Isn't that nice? A member of the White House is speaking at a conference where avowed socialists are going to tell kids why capitalism is destroying the planet.

For those unfamiliar, this is what ISO stands for:
The International Socialist Organization (ISO) is committed to building an organization that participates in the struggles for justice and liberation today--and, ultimately, for a future socialist society. [...]

A world free of exploitation--socialism--is not only possible but worth fighting for. The ISO stands in the tradition of revolutionary socialists Karl Marx, V.I. Lenin and Leon Trotsky in the belief that workers themselves--the vast majority of the population--are the only force that can lead the fight to win a socialist society. Socialism can't be brought about from above, but has to be won by workers themselves. [...]

We see our task as building an independent socialist organization with members organizing in our workplaces, our schools and our neighborhoods to bring socialist ideas to the struggles we are involved in today, and the vision of a socialist world in the future.

So, not only have socialists been invited to speak to an American youth organization, but also current and former members of the Obama administration will be in attendance as well.....

This meeting designed to put an end to our form of government ... and way of life ... is happening this very weekend.

Just one more small sign about the corruption we have in high places in this day. Are you ready for a One World Government built on the premise that as a human you are the plague of this living planet?

There are many tricks to improve our memory, but a great way to remember our blessings is to do as the old Hymn says, “Count your many blessings, name them one by one.” The writer of Psalms 103:1-2 reminds us to remember The Lord God with these words:

Back to the days of the caveman

The United Nations is now actually considering a treaty that would give bugs, snakes, Mother Earth ... the same "rights" as human beings.

You really can't make this kind of thing up ... not in your wildest nightmares.

UNITED NATIONS — Bolivia will this month table a draft United Nations treaty giving "Mother Earth" the same rights as humans — having just passed a domestic law that does the same for bugs, trees and all other natural things in the South American country.

The bid aims to have the UN recognize the Earth as a living entity that humans have sought to "dominate and exploit" — to the point that the "well-being and existence of many beings" is now threatened.

....

It also establishes a Ministry of Mother Earth, and provides the planet with an ombudsman whose job is to hear nature's complaints as voiced by activist and other groups, including the state.

....

In a 2008 pamphlet his entourage distributed at the UN as he attended a summit there, 10 "commandments" are set out as Bolivia's plan to "save the planet" — beginning with the need "to end capitalism."

....

In indigenous Andean culture, the Earth deity known as Pachamama is the centre of all life, and humans are considered equal to all other entities......

Now ... why exactly why do you suppose that a nation like Bolivia that is so abundantly rich in natural resources is among the poorest nations on our planet? It just might be because of their primitive and idolatrous beliefs ... beliefs that go back to prehistoric cavemen ... and they wish to impose the same on the developed nations ... so we will all go back to the lifestyles of cavemen?

Get ready ... anti-Christ will use the same methodology.

Yahweh "Looking"

Day 210

Yahweh

Looking

"Yahweh, remember what has happened to us. Look, and see our disgrace!"
Lamentations 5:1 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

This would be the question for today, how aware are we that Yahweh actually can ... and does ... look ... upon us?

Now consider the reality for just a moment ... Yahweh sees you. For the Lamentor ... this was a comforting and reassuring thought ... as well it should be for us today.

This is in The Name.

Forget Others Expectations

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ... all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Dione speaks today about the reality of realizing the need to ignore other peoples "expectations" is vital.

"To quit worrying about other people, and take whatever time I needed to do what ever I needed to do. Do what feels right- no matter what I thought was expected."
Dione

Father, Yahweh, many people have no earthly idea the damage they inflict on other people by trying to force others to fit into their expectations. Help us all to see how arrogant and selfish this truly is ... and help us to be filled with the compassion of Our YahShua instead.

“Self-sacrifice is never entirely unselfish, for the giver never fails to receive.”
(Dolores E. McGuire)

Indeed, to give of your time and energies to others brings a satisfaction that is invaluable. The joy of doing for others, especially for those who cannot repay you, is a blessing that in itself is a reward. The apostle Paul encourages us in Galatians 6:2 to
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Never let it be said, “When it came to the least we could do, that is what we did.”

"God, let me be the servant You need here on earth. Thank you for our rain, please send some to Oklahoma.
Amen."

“April showers bring May flowers—with the help of spading, fertilizing, planting, watering, and weeding.” (Unknown)
Just as most gardens are made better with a little help and T.L.C. from the gardener, each of us is benefited by the hand of the Master of the universe as He prunes and shapes our lives each day. The apostle Paul understood the need to continue to grow in his Christian life and gave us these words in Philippians 3:12:
“Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.”

"God, thank You for continuing to work with me to make me what I ought to be.
Amen."

Patient With Yourself

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ... all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Angie speaks today about the reality that the grieving person often must be understanding of their own self.

"Be patient with yourself."
Angie

I remember the young mother that had just tragically lost a little baby that had been premature. The baby had lived several days fighting to hang on to life.

The Mother was rocking back and forth in a seated position with loud sobs and gasping for air at the announcement that her little girl had died. The only thing she could actually say ... over and over ... was ... "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I can't help it!"

God Bless you Angie, and all those who've lost those who have meant more to them than their own lives.

“A contented man is the one who enjoys the scenery along the detours.” (Unknown)

If you have never made a detour, you have never been anywhere. Every day we have situations or opportunities that cause us to have to move out of our normal routine. Wherever those events lead us or force us to go, we are led to embrace the opportunity or to confront the situation. The apostle Paul in Romans 8:28 tell us,
“We know all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.”

"God, thank You for the rains in life that usher in the rainbows.

“The dearest idol I have known, Whate’er that idol be, Help me to tear it from its throne, And worship only thee.”
(William Cowper 1731–1800)

The fourth verse of the song, "I Must Tell Jesus," by Elisha A. Hoffman, says, “O how the world to evil allures me! O how my heart is tempted to sin! I must tell Jesus, and He will help me over the world the victory to win.” Any time, anything comes between us and our relationship with God, it is an idol, and as the song says, we "must tell Jesus," Jesus alone. The writer of Psalms 66:4 gives us this encouragement:
“All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.”
Let us tear down all idols--including self--to worship Jehovah God.

"God, thank You for all You are and do to allow me to come to You.
Amen."

“Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am a life that was changed. Thank you for giving to the Lord, I am so glad you gave.”
(Ray Boltz)

Each of us daily can personalize these words from Ray Boltz’s song. This week I was reminded twice about lives we touch. While it may not be a huge thing at the time, those "touches" are just walking with God and serving Him in a natural way.

In Matthew 25:40 we are reminded of the words of Jesus asHe said,
“Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

"God, thank You for the opportunities You give us daily to be Your hands. Amen."

“Great joys, like griefs, are silent.”
(Shackerley Marmion 1603–1639)

When we sit at the feet of the Lord and contemplate the love of God who loves us so much that He gave His Son Jesus as a ransom for us, such a realization literally takes our breath away. At that time, words are not enough; communication comes "heart to heart." The writer of Psalms 16:7-9 says,
“I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.”

What's Scarce?

"... I found one [upright] man among a thousand ..." (v. 28)

For reading & meditation: Ecclesiastes 7:25-29

Wisdom was something very important to Solomon. It was this that he prayed for when God said to him: 'Ask for whatever you want me to give you' (1 Kings 3:5). In addition, Solomon had set out to discover all he could about earthly wisdom. When he put all his findings together, he concluded human wisdom was not all it was cracked up to be.

His next remark, one that some would say is extremely sexist, makes the point that while wisdom was elusive, so also was righteousness, and although he had found one righteous man in a thousand, he had not found one righteous woman at all. Does this mean that men are better than women? Of course not. Solomon is just making a comparison which in his culture would not have the connotation it has today. He is using what we call hyperbole - an exaggerated statement made for emphasis.

Even if he was saying that men are better than women then, as R. Gordis points out: "When you work out his figures men are only one tenth of one percent better than women." His real point is seen in verse 29 - righteousness is scarce.

Why? It's not God's fault, because in the beginning He made humankind pure and upright. But tragedy struck, and through the willful disobedience of Adam and Eve, sin invaded human nature. Our problems are not God's fault, but ours. They are not around us, but within us. We can't blame anyone other than ourselves for our lack of righteousness. The reason we are not righteous is because we don't want to be.

Father, I am so thankful that although I cannot find righteousness in myself, I can find it in You. Through Christ's sacrifice for me on Calvary I have righteousness not merely imputed to me, but imparted to me. I am eternally grateful. Amen.

“The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.”
(Jesus Christ in Matthew 13:24-29)

In the fall of the year, my yard appeared to have an infestation of onions. My tendency was to mow them down, poison them, and then "nuke them and let God sort them out." To my surprise, my curiosity got the best of me, and I let them grow to maturity through the winter and into spring. The result was an interesting flower called the Grape Hyacinth, a purple, grape-shaped flower that, traditonally, when given to someone indicates you are sorry and wish to be forgiven. Through life, we find some people a little rough around the edges, but as they mature, they develop into beauty. In comparing own my life to that of the onion that became a plant of beauty, I pray my growth produces something of value.

"God, thank You for those who have nurtured me. Forgive me where I may have plucked others too early and cast them away.
Amen."

Wisdom - Only from God

"Whatever wisdom may be, it is far off and most profound - who can discover it?" (v. 24)

For reading & meditation: Ecclesiastes 7:19-24

Wisdom provides us with an inner strength. That is the point Solomon is making in this passage. One who operates with wisdom possesses more strength than ten city officials. And those who have come up against officialdom and bureaucracy will know that this is some strength!

When we have wisdom, we have the inner strength to cope with whatever comes - tensions, stresses, and problems that are not easily resolved. Solomon goes on to point out, however, that the possession of wisdom does not mean we become popular. You will still get criticized, he tells us, but don't let that throw you.
"You may hear your servant cursing you ... many times you yourself have cursed others" (vv. 21-22).
"When people criticize me," a friend told me, "I am thankful they don't know how bad I really am, or they would have much worse to say." As Chuck Swindoll puts it:
"Give God thanks that people are just hitting the visible, not the whole truth."
Solomon's next statement about wisdom is: "'I [was] determined to be wise' - but this was beyond me" (v. 23). Solomon found in seeking wisdom that wisdom was not easy to find. Why is that? Because while we have an innate ability to gather knowledge, we cannot be wise without the help of God.

Solomon did not make this next statement, but nevertheless, this is what he is saying:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault" (James 1:5).
You can find knowledge in the world, but wisdom - true wisdom, that is - comes only from God.

O God, I bow before You and acknowledge that the wisdom I need to handle life I just haven't got. I fail to see the things I ought to see and value the things I ought to value. Give me Your wisdom, dear Father - heavenly wisdom. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

"Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton was the only one who asked, 'Why?'" (Bernard Baruch 1870-1965)

Each of us is a unique person individually gifted both with questions and with answers that others may need to hear. I have heard many teachers say, “There are no dumb questions except those that are left unasked.” You may have the question that needs to be asked to answer to one of the world’s major problems. Remember the words of the writer in Psalms 139:14:
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”
From the blueprint God has placed in each one of us, there is no telling what can be accomplished if we apply ourselves and put our trust in Him.

"God, use our gifts to bring honor to You.
Amen."

Keep Your Balance

"The man who fears God will avoid all [extremes]." (v. 18)

For reading & meditation: Ecclesiastes 7:15-18

One perplexing situation for which wisdom and a divine perspective is needed, says Solomon, is when we see the righteous suffer and the wicked prosper. The psalmist struggled with this age-old problem (particularly in Ps. 73), and so have millions since.

A tyrant lives on, while a missionary family on their way to bring help and medical care to others is lost in a plane crash. You can't make sense of that unless you have an unshakable trust in God, and believe that one day (not now) He will answer every question to our satisfaction.

The second issue for which wisdom and a divine perspective is needed is the matter of spiritual balance. "Do not be overrighteous" is Solomon's advice (v. 16). He is thinking here, I believe, of those who (forgive the cliche) are too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good.

I know people who think they are head over heels in love with the Lord, but who have no love for others. The apostle John called these people "liars" (1 John 4:20). Super-spirituality is out, says Solomon; it's an extreme. But lest we go to the other extreme he speaks out against this also: "Do not be overwicked" (v. 17).

All of us, because of the Fall, have a wicked streak within us, and we should watch that we do not indulge that. He is not saying you can get away with a little wickedness. Far from it. He is saying don't give way to it. Solomon is pleading for moderation. Extremes and excesses are destructive. Keep your balance.

O God, teach me how to avoid all excesses and extremes so that I might be a truly balanced Christian. I would shun overspirituality as I would shun unbridled urges and lusts. Help me, my Father. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

The Battle Has Begun

The voice of the American voter is now officially being sounded in Washington.

GOP Budget Proposal: 'Not a Penny' for Obamacare

(CNSNews.com) - The fiscal 2012 budget proposal unveiled today by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R.-Wis.) offers sweeping reforms in federal spending, including defunding and repealing the health-care law signed last year by President Barack Obama and converting the federal share of the Medicaid program into block grants to state governments.

The Republican proposal says one of its aims is “making sure that not a penny goes toward implementing the new [health care] law” enacted last year.

This includes repealing about $800 billion in new taxes that were built into the law.....

This could certainly become the "Mother of all Battles."

Keep your eyes on Washington ... there are going to be fireworks.

Wearing lots of slogans

A fashion designer in women's apparel is emphatic that we are destroying the earth ... and says that we need to 'inform' ourselves?
Designer Vivienne Westwood has something she is even more passionate about than her punky fashion.

“I try to use my voice to tell people of the danger of climate change, we are an endangered species. Within one generation, Los Angeles will be uninhabitable if people don’t do something about it ... The most important thing is for people to inform themselves, because when you inform yourself your behavior changes. All we’ve got is public opinion to help to do something about this. I just try to wear lots of slogans and open my mouth whenever I can.”

Only one generation and L.A will be population-less? Really?
.....
Myron Ebell, Director, Center for Energy and Environment at the Competitive Enterprise Institute in Washington D.C doesn’t think Westwood’s predictions are that far-fetched, but he doesn't blame glabal warming.

“Los Angeles is in danger of becoming uninhabitable within one generation if Californians allow your elected officials to keep pursuing global warming policies designed to raise energy prices, destroy jobs, and make people poorer,” he said. “Global warming is a potential minor problem. California’s global warming laws do nothing to address global warming, but will enrich special interests at the price of killing California’s economy.” ....

Now which person sounds more informed to you ... Myron Ebell or Vivienne Westwood?

(Michelangelo 1475–1564)

Some are gifted as artists in paints, some in music of instruments, some in voice, and still others draw pictures with their words. In whatever way God has gifted us, may we use our abilities for His glory. The writer of Psalms 19:1 says,

May each of us likewise use our abilities to the glory of God.

“If I can put one thought of rosy sunset into the life of any man or woman, I shall feel that I have worked with God.”
(George Macdonald 1824–1905)

My desire is to bring happiness to someone each day. The writer of Psalms 100:1- 5 reminds us to,
“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving , and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.
