We did move on

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ... all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Pam speaks today about ... bad advice

Two weeks after my 18 year old son died in a car accident, we had some really good friends tell us that life is for the living and we had to move on. We did move on ... from the friendship!
Pam

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Pam, and all who have lost a child.  I pray that they will each one recognize that not everything the will hear from others ... is what they should hear.  Grant wisdom to know when to just walk away.

Father, bless them today.

Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill

Firing an employee is one of the toughest jobs a supervisor ever faces. For example, though the experience can be negative, an insurance sales manager was known for his tact and diplomacy. One of his young salesmen was performing so poorly that he had to be terminated. The manager called him in and said, “Son, I don’t know how we’re ever going to get along without you, but starting Monday we’re going to try.”

It is interesting to see how one little word like "but" can make all the difference in the world. “We all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).  In Romans 6:23 we are told, “The wages of sin is death.” The verse, however, doesn’t end there. The conclusion is “But, the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” What a difference that little connection word makes.

God, thank You for the reconciliation that comes through Your Son Jesus. Amen.

Leonardo da Vinci had started work on a large canvas in his studio.  For awhile, with his own inimitable genius, he worked at it—choosing the subject, planning the perspective, sketching the outline, applying the colors.... Then suddenly he ceased, the painting still unfinished, and, summoning one of his students, invited him to complete the work. The student protested that he was both unworthy and unable to complete the great painting which his master had begun. But da Vinci silenced him. “Will not what I have done inspire you to do your best?”

Our Master began two thousand years ago—by what He said, by what He did, and supremely by what He suffered. He illustrated His love toward us, and He has left us to finish the picture for others to see.  He will not leave us here alone to complete the task. The writer of Philippians 1:6 tells us, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

God, thank You for trusting us with the task, and loving us enough to be here with us to see it through. Amen.

A mother came to President Lincoln seeking the pardon of her son, under sentence of death. The result of her pleading was that Lincoln issued a pardon. After leaving him, as she passed through a corridor, she exclaimed to Thaddeus Steven, who accompanied her, “I knew it was a lie!” Stevens asked, “What do you refer to?” She replied with vehemence, “Why, they told me he was an ugly-looking man, but he is the handsomest man I ever saw in my life.”

As we look into the mirror, we see the imperfections and remember Romans 3:23 that says, “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” That is looking at reality. God looks at us through His love in John 3:16 and remembers, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

God, thank You for seeing us through Your love. Amen.

A mother knows

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ... all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Allison speaks today about ...cherishing

My Grandma said: IT WILL BE OK. I clung to that with everything I had...still am...it's been nine years Mothers Day and I miss my 17 year old daughter, Sarah, with every heartbeat...but it will be ok... I will see her again in heaven some day... for now, there's just a lot of little "unexplainable" things that tell me she is very much alive and well... just on the other side of the great divide! p.s. When my Grandma said those words, I was six... we were standing hand-in hand over the graves of her three babies that had died between child-birth and toddler-age. Now I'm a grandma... teaching my grandchildren about God... and Life... Life is real big and real precious... as Sarah put it: LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL POSSESSIONS OF ONE ANOTHER... 12/17/84 - 5/10/2002. To be given such a gift at Christmas and to return her on Mother's Day... I will hold her forever... a mother knows.. God knows...  Isaiah 49:15-16.

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Allison, and all who have lost a child.  I pray that knowing the love that each one has for their child will grow sweeter with each passing day.

Father, bless them today.

Husbands who kiss their wives every morning before leaving for work usually live five years longer than those who do not. A kissing husband has fewer automobile accidents, loses up to 50 percent less time from work because of illness, and earns 20-30 percent more than a nonkissing husband. No statistics were available for benefits to kissing wives. Perhaps along with special rates for nonsmokers and nondrinkers, there’ll soon be a special policy for kissers.

What a deal! Think of the benefits we never even dreamed of. The writer of Proverbs 5:14 gives us this advice, “Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.”  I don’t know about you, but I enjoy being blessed.

God, Thank You for my wife and the years You have given us together. Amen.

PS. If your husband gives you an unexpected, uncharacteristic kiss this morning try not to look at him as if he is being selfish.

A devout Frenchman was right when he said, “Beware of a religion which substitutes itself for everything—that makes monks. Seek a religion which penetrates everything—that makes Christians.” Chlorophyll is essential to green trees. As it is acted upon by the sun, it purifies the dirty air, absorbing the carbon dioxide that poisons us. Just so, the action of the Holy Spirit is essential to the believer, to purify his spiritual life.

It is not about religion, it is about our relationship with Jesus Christ that brings us into the right relationship with God.  In John 14:6 Jesus tells us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

God, thank You for opening the door for us to have a personal relationship with You through Your Son Jesus. Amen.

“Following the crowd is not a winning approach to life. In the end it’s a loser’s game, because we never become who God created us to be by trying to be like everyone else.”  (Tim Tebow)

Tim Tebow is obviously comfortable in his own skin. He understands that football is just a game and there is a reward at the end of this life worth living for. Tim understands and agrees with the writer of Psalms 139:14  who says, “ I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.”

God, let us be the best us You created us for.  Amen.

“The more you pray, the less you'll panic. The more you worship, the less you worry. You'll feel more patient and less pressured.” (Rick Warren)

Walking with God takes a lot of pressure off us. When we show up each day to worship Him, the lines of communication open so that we are able to be still and listen to Him.  The writer of Psalms 46:10 gives us these words of The Lord: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

God, thank You that even in my weakest days I can praise You. Amen.

“Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it's at the end of your arm; as you get older, remember you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.”  (Sam Levenson)

Being able to help another is a blessing not only to the one served,  but also to the server.  The writer
of Galatians 6:3  challenges us to "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."

God, let us be the hands You need here on earth.  Amen.

“Here I stand; I can do no other. God help me. Amen!”  (Martin Luther)

The length of the prayer is not what compels God to move on our behalf, but the fact is that He loves us. He is always on duty to answer even the slightest cry of His children.   The writer of Jeremiah 29:11-13 gives us these powerful words from The Lord: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

God, thank You for hearing the whisper of the prayer that is in our heads and for standing ready to move to bring about our interests. Amen.

“The art of negotiation is something you learn at an early age. You’d be amazed how many teenagers get their first car by asking for a motorcycle.”  (Unknown)

How interesting, as we  “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)

“Maturity is the ability to do a job whether or not you are supervised, to carry money without spending it, and to hear an injustice without wanting to get even.” (Ann Landers)

Hopefully as we grow older, we  get at least a little wiser, but the following quote  reminds us: “With age comes wisdom, but sometimes age comes alone.” (Oscar Wilde)

The writer of Hebrews 5:14 says, But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”  Let our years be of value to keep the lessons the miles have taught us.

God, thank You for the wisdom to discern good and evil. Amen.

“The winds and waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators.” (Edward Gibbon)

Contrary winds blow into your life daily. The foolish man is driven about by those winds and never makes any headway. The wise man has learned how to make use of those trials.  Many times I find myself thinking I have things under control only to find myself being thwarted.  It is those times I like to follow the advice of the writer of James 1:5-6 that says, If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”

God, Thank You for providing the wisdom I need daily. Amen.
