Death Panel opens the door to the cancer that is the #1 cancer among men. Newt is trying to expose this effort by bureaucrats to lord it over our health care.


Earlier this month, a panel appointed by the Department of Health and Human Services made a recommendation so detached from the good of individual patients it could only have come from government bureaucrats. They recommended eliminating screening for the most common cancer among males nationwide.

Despite lacking any specialist who deals with the issue, the panel issued a recommendation this month to stop using the only available test to screen for prostate cancer. PSA tests .... Without the PSA testing, many men will have no way to know they have the disease until it has developed into much more dangerous problem. In some cases, it will be a too late by the time they discover it.

What is the basis for the panel’s recommendation to discontinue screening that can save lives?

It has nothing to do with the merits of the test. Instead, these government-appointed experts advised against screening because they disagree with what some doctors and patients choose to do with the information once they have it ..... the task force’s answer is simply to deny doctors and patients the chance to consider early treatment by recommending they not screen for prostate cancer in the first place.

That is not a reasoned response to the problem. It is a bureaucratic response to the problem. And people will almost certainly die because of it.

This points to the difference between the bureaucratic approach to healthcare, which leads to rationing, and an approach to empower individuals and their doctors to make the best decisions for them.....

GOP Budget Proposal: 'Not a Penny' for Obamacare

(CNSNews.com) - The fiscal 2012 budget proposal unveiled today by House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan (R.-Wis.) offers sweeping reforms in federal spending, including defunding and repealing the health-care law signed last year by President Barack Obama and converting the federal share of the Medicaid program into block grants to state governments.

The Republican proposal says one of its aims is “making sure that not a penny goes toward implementing the new [health care] law” enacted last year.

This includes repealing about $800 billion in new taxes that were built into the law.....

This could certainly become the "Mother of all Battles."

Keep your eyes on Washington ... there are going to be fireworks.

My Way to Free Health Care, Education, etc.

Here's the idea I came up with today .....

Let's go to all the nations that we have liberated from one form of tyranny or another ... all the ones that don't have to really worry about military building and all the expensive gadgets and research in technologies required to keep them ahead of the game .... lets figure up some of the cost of keeping our military presence in various parts of the world as a deterrent to world thugs (or whatever we would call them) .... then lets allow these nations to give a meager portion of their national budgets to help fund our kids college educations, pay for our health care, all those things. Shucks ... we only make up some 7% of the worlds population ... that shouldn't be too much to ask.

Half of men may have HPV infections: study

CHICAGO (Reuters) – Half of men in the general population may be infected with human papillomavirus or HPV, the human wart virus that causes cervical and other cancers, strengthening the case for vaccinating boys against HPV, U.S. researchers said on Monday.

U.S. vaccine advisers have been weighing whether boys and young men should be vaccinated against the human papillomavirus, as they already recommend for girls and young women, but some worry the vaccine is too costly to justify its use.

HPV infection is best known as the primary cause of cervical cancer, the second most common cancer in women worldwide. But various strains of HPV also cause anal, penile, head and neck cancers......

Now ... I am waiting for Hollywood to produce a sitcom or romance tale that depicts this overwhelming reality in our culture?

So ... the next time you find yourself in a rather "passionate" non-married situation ... think the words ... cancer ... death ... forever.

The only offer the researchers can give is that there should be more vaccinations given to young men against HPV ... not a single word or hint that perhaps there should be some consideration for abstinence until marriage ... and then faithfulness in marriage ... not a word.

The Health Care Battle Lines are Heating Up

In case you haven't heard a Federal Judge in Florida has ruled that federally mandated purchasing of health care by all Americans is ... unconstitutional.

Quoting James Madison and Thomas Jefferson as authorities, a federal judge in Florida ruled Monday that Congress breached the Constitution when it passed the health care law, dealing the broadest rejection yet to President Obama‘s signature initiative.

U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson‘s ruling is the second to find that Congress exceeded its powers by requiring Americans to buy insurance, known as the “individual mandate.” But the judge went further, saying that if the individual mandate is unconstitutional, so is the entire law.

“The individual mandate is neither within the letter nor the spirit of the Constitution,” Judge Vinson wrote, warning that to allow Congress to use the Necessary and Proper Clause of the Constitution to justify it would “effectively remove all limits on federal power.”.....

A large majority of Americans agree with the Judge ... as does the constitution of the United States.

It is going to be very interesting to see how the Supreme Court rules on this because that is where this will eventually end up. Does the federal government have the power and authority to mandate any American to buy anything?

I'll just say that there has been more than one time in our nations history that Supreme Court Justices have voted in ways totally unexpected by the presidents that nominated them ... and this just might prove to be one of those times.

This is going to be the clearest test the Supreme Court has ever ruled on concerning the limitations of the federal government over the individual American citizen.

There is some pretty good discussion going on regarding the below video that is posted over at Brutally Honest. I thought some pretty salient points are being made that we would and should consider on the call for repealing obamacare.



Here are a few of the responses to the gentle-woman's statement that obamacare is mandated by the constitution.

.... “This bill as been vetted, this bill is constitutional…”

Yea, it was vetted so much that the then Speaker of the House, Pelosi, said “We had to pass the (healthcare) bill so we can know what’s in it”.

As far as being constitutional, that will be decided, but as of today there are 26 state attorney generals who think otherwise.

“…and it protects the constitutional rights of those who ask the question - ‘Must I die, must my child die, because now I am disallowed from getting insurance?’

Disallowed? Who’s “disallowed” from getting insurance?

I missed the part where the constitution says - “Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and healthcare”. Maybe Rep. Lee has a different copy than mine. Never mind that it’s in the Declaration of Independence.

It is interesting when Healthcare is proposed as a "right". If it is a right, it is unique amongst the other rights listed in the Bill of Rights. You know, that curious portion of the Constitution that is actually in the Constitution.
What I mean by unique amongst all other rights is that while:

You have a Right to Freedom of Religion, the government doesn't provide Bibles.
You have a Right to Assembly but the government doesn't provide halls in which to do it.
You have a Right to bear arms, but the government doesn't buy you a firearm and ammunition.
You have a Right to freedom of the press but the government doesn't buy you a printing press and ink.

You get the picture, by putting forth the notion that healthcare is a right, those who do so are also putting forth the notion that, at the point of a gun, the government has an obligation to take your children's money (you see yours is all gone) and give it to you neighbor to treat their erectile disfunction, pay for their abortion or otherwise pay for services that they cannot afford.....

Those who put forth the notion that "health care" is a "right" are positing that one person has the "right" to another persons time and treasure. How does this jibe with the notion that one of the inalienable rights is the right to liberty? If you claim, as your "right", the fruits of MY labor (be they money paid in taxes, OR my professional skills, if I am in the medical field), does that not make me, at least in part, your slave?

In a 2008 epidemiology update it has actually been acknowledged that AIDS is actually at general epidemic stage in Washington DC...

... and truth be known... this same reality is true in our entire nation... not to mention that in some African Nations... such as Uganda... it is estimated that the AIDS virus affects some 80% of their adult population.

Has anyone heard that AIDS is actually a world wide pandemic? This should be shouted from the roof tops.

D.C. brings HIV testing to the crowd at the DMV

Starting Tuesday, getting tested for HIV in the District will be as easy as renewing a driver's license.

In what District officials say is the first effort of its kind in the nation, the city will partner with a nonprofit group to offer free HIV testing at the Department of Motor of Vehicles office in Penn Branch in Southeast Washington. Participants will receive up to $15 to help defray their DMV costs.

The year-long project would be another way to reach residents in a city where a 2008 epidemiology update concluded that 3 percent of the population had HIV/AIDS. That is well above the 1 percent considered to be a general epidemic, advocates for prevention and city officials said.....

AIDS is actually the world's first politically protected pandemic.

This is a heart breaking and crushing quagmire of political madness. And... we are told to trust government to govern health care?

Tell the truth... call it what it is... a pandemic... and treat it as such. Millions and millions and millions are dying every year.

I really don't think that joking about denying health care to seniors is a laughing matter... but Gary McDowell who is running to replace Bart Stupak (D, MI) in Michigan does... and he jokes publicly about it... to the audiences laughter.

Democrat Jokes That Seniors Should Be Denied End-Of-Life Healthcare

....At a campaign appearance, McDowell agreed with those Obamacare supporters that think giving lifesaving medical care to seniors at end of life is a “resource” that needs to be rationed.

McDowell even makes a joke of the issue by saying that those that say end-of-life care should be rationed must be “from a safe district” because the “inconvenient truth” as he sees it is a tough pill to swallow.

Death panels, anyone?

McDowell thinks that setting up death panels should be swathed in less alarming language but that they should still be set up. “I was more diplomatic in not mentioning the end of life,” he said to those gathered. Yet he still meant to talk about how we need to ration healthcare at the end of life because “as adults” we need to accept McDowell’s “truth” that it’s just too expensive to save grandma’s life....

There you have it... bureaucrats joking and laughing about "rationing" health care to seniors.

I don't think they will be laughing about their "death panels" come November.

Gangster Government Stifles Criticism of Obamacare

"There will be zero tolerance for this type of misinformation and unjustified rate increases."

That sounds like a stern headmistress dressing down some sophomores who have been misbehaving. But it's actually from a letter sent Thursday from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to Karen Ignagni, president of America's Health Insurance Plans -- the chief lobbyist for private health insurance companies....

... Sebelius has "zero tolerance" for that kind of thing.... And there's a threat. "We will also keep track of insurers with a record of unjustified rate increases: those plans may be excluded from health insurance Exchanges in 2014."...

....The threat to use government regulation to destroy or harm someone's business because they disagree with government officials is thuggery.... They want to stamp out negative speech about Obamacare. "Zero tolerance" means they are ready to use the powers of government to threaten economic harm on those who dissent.

The closing paragraph of Sebelius's letter to AHIP's Karen Ignagni gives the game away. "We worked hard to change the system to help consumers." This is a reminder that the administration alternatively collaborated with and criticized Ignagni's organization. We roughed you up a little, but we eventually made a deal.

The secretary goes on: "It is my hope we can work together to stop misinformation and misleading marketing from the start." In other words, shut your members up and play team ball -- or my guys with the baseball bats and Tommy guns are going to get busy. As Cowen puts it, "worse than I had been expecting."

The old "Huckster" as the libs loved to call Mike Huckabee, received a lot of grief over his reference to Arkansas being a lot like a "banana republic"... but he may have been more prophetic about this later day in America itself.

He was revived successfully, although the apparent brain damage from the attack left him in a coma for a time. He was placed in intensive care where he regained consciousness. An eyewitness has reported he has regained movement in his arms and legs and that he recognizes the family he is living with.

According to Bernard Stephenson, another local pastor and friend who visits Mayandy daily, the injured man can speak some words.

But staff with Brampton Civic Hospital, which is part of the William Osler Health Center, disagree. According to Stephenson, doctors asserted all along that there was no hope of recovery.

The disagreement over his condition and capacity triggered in Ontario the involvement of the region's "Consent and Capacity" board, which by law determines the proper medical treatment for patients unable to make decisions themselves.

However, Alex Schadenberg, director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, says the board's decision simply is euthanasia by omission.

He also claims the hospital put pressure on Mayandy's friend, whose name has been redacted from the decision letter, to support its decision.

"Joshua, who is not otherwise dying, is being dehydrated to death. This is not the case when hydration and nutrition need to be withdrawn because he is actually dying and nearing death, but rather the decision appears to have been made to intentionally cause death by withdrawing IV hydration and nutrition because he is unlikely to recover from his disability," Schadenberg said.

He also believes Mayandy's friend and strategic decision-maker, chosen by the board, was pressured into supporting the hospital's position before he appeared before the Consent and Capacity board.

Schadenberg said, "It is deplorable that the Consent and Capacity Board in Ontario, the hospital and the lawyer for the hospital, who are all paid by the government and have nearly unlimited resources to pressure people to consent to their will, appeared to appoint a substitute decision maker to make decisions on behalf of Joshua, based on that person's willingness to a agree to a non-treatment plan, even though there is no proof that the plan of non-treatment represented the values of the person."

Seriously... can you imagine a government appointed board, enforcing a rule that they invent, that states that a critical patient must be able to ask for food and water... or they will be given none?

We are not talking about heroic efforts of life support equipment... we are simply talking about food... and water.

This is evil.

Voters in Missouri have approved, by an overwhelming 71 percent of the vote, Proposition C, which states "the Missouri Statues be amended to deny the government the authority to penalize citizens for refusing to purchase private health insurance." The health care reform legislation recently passed by Congress includes a provision penalizing Americans who do not buy health insurance, the Constitutionality of which several states have challenged.....

I really didn't think I would see an opinion published on the Politico Opinion page like this one... esp. about the economic policies of the current administration.

Things must be worst than we even realize.

Obama, Reagan and the economy

It’s easy to understand why President Barack Obama’s friends don’t want to acknowledge that July represents 17 months since Congress passed the $787 billion economic stimulus bill — the president’s signature measure to jump-start the economy and fight unemployment.

Obama says the economy is headed in the right direction; jobs are being created, not lost, and he is doing everything possible to revive the “worst economy since the Great Depression.” Most of the national press has been remarkably accepting of this narrative — even if the president has been vague, at best, about when we might finally see an uptick in economic growth and job creation.

But in another economic time, President Ronald Reagan’s economic recovery program took 17 months to take hold. It took from the time Congress passed his tax cuts, in August 1981, until the recession he inherited finally ended in January 1983.

Unemployment hit a high of 10.8 percent in December 1982. But then economic growth spiked, and the unemployment rate began a long, steady decline throughout the 1980s. It was obvious the program was working when people stopped calling it “Reaganomics.”

Tax cuts were a part of Reagan’s effort to cut the size and scope of government to fight economic stagnation. “Government is not the solution,” Reagan said in his remarkably clear inaugural address. “It is the problem.”

In addition to tax cuts, Reagan reduced domestic discretionary spending and streamlined regulations to make them less of a burden on businesses seeking to create jobs. He believed that government should give individuals and businesses the proper incentives to grow and expand and not inhibit the private sector with high taxes and cumbersome regulations.

Reagan faced obstacles that Obama did not. The House he had to work with was always controlled by Democrats. More ominously, inflation was running at double-digit rates, and it took nearly a year for the Federal Reserve to squeeze those pressures out of the system.

Regardless, in the end, Reagan’s program worked. The turnaround began 17 months later.

Fast-forward to today. The Obama administration says that government-directed investment, via huge spending increases, can revive the economy. It’s now stimulus plus 17. Is there a turnaround in sight?

Apparently not. Obama’s own budget estimates, released just last week, project trillion-dollar deficits, anemic economic growth coming out of a recession and unemployment near 9 percent for 2011 and 8 percent for 2012.

You have to go back to the 1930s to find a period in which unemployment has been so high for so long. This economic record would make former President Jimmy Carter blush.

Yet Obama continues to get a pass on his version of recent economic events. He has said that he inherited the worst recession since the Great Depression. He didn’t. The economies inherited by both President Gerald Ford in 1974 and Reagan in 1981 were far worse.

Obama has said the stimulus has saved 3 million jobs. It hasn’t. We have nearly that many fewer jobs than before the stimulus was passed in February 2009, and the unemployment rate is 1½ percentage points higher than what he claimed would be the high point once his program was enacted.

Obama has said he is doing all he can to revive the economy. Actually, he’s doing too much. The economic uncertainty that his “historic” health care and budget bills have created is doing more to hold back economic growth than anything else. Companies are hoarding cash rather than invest in Obama’s uncertain economic climate.

As a result, the recovery is anemic by historic standards.

So we have two historic presidents. Both inherited bad economies. One cut spending and taxes, and then, 17 months later, the economy boomed. The other increased taxes and spending. It’s now 17 months later.

Mr. President, we’re waiting.

Lost in Taxation: The IRS's vast new ObamaCare powers.

If it seems as if the tax code was conceived by graphic artist M.C. Escher, wait until you meet the new and not improved Internal Revenue Service created by ObamaCare. What, you're not already on a first-name basis with your local IRS agent?

National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson, who operates inside the IRS, highlighted the agency's new mission in her annual report to Congress last week. Look out below. She notes that the IRS is already "greatly taxed"—pun intended?—"by the additional role it is playing in delivering social benefits and programs to the American public," like tax credits for first-time homebuyers or purchasing electric cars. Yet with ObamaCare, the agency is now responsible for "the most extensive social benefit program the IRS has been asked to implement in recent history." And without "sufficient funding" it won't be able to discharge these new duties.

That wouldn't be tragic, given that those new duties include audits to determine who has the insurance "as required by law" and collecting penalties from Americans who don't. Companies that don't sponsor health plans will also be punished. This crackdown will "involve nearly every division and function of the IRS," Ms. Olson reports.

Well, well. Republicans argued during the health debate that the IRS would have to hire hundreds of new agents and staff to enforce ObamaCare. They were brushed off by Democrats and the press corps as if they believed the President was born on the moon. The IRS says it hasn't figured out how much extra money and manpower it will need but admits that both numbers are greater than zero.

Ms. Olson also exposed a damaging provision that she estimates will hit some 30 million sole proprietorships and subchapter S corporations, two million farms and one million charities and other tax-exempt organizations. Prior to ObamaCare, businesses only had to tell the IRS the value of services they purchase. But starting in 2013 they will also have to report the value of goods they buy from a single vendor that total more than $600 annually—including office supplies and the like.

Democrats snuck in this obligation to narrow the mythical "tax gap" of unreported business income, but Ms. Olson says that the tracking costs for small businesses will be "disproportionate as compared with any resulting improvement in tax compliance." Job creation, here we come . . . at least for the accountants who will attempt to comply with a vast new 1099 reporting burden.

Meanwhile, the IRS will be inundated with useless information, because without a huge upgrade its information systems won't be able to manage and track the nanodetails.

In a Monday letter, even Democratic Senators Mark Begich (Alaska), Ben Nelson (Nebraska), Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire) and Evan Bayh (Indiana) denounce this new "burden" on small businesses and insist that the IRS use its discretion to find "better ways to structure this reporting requirement." In other words, they want regulators to fix one problem among many that all four Senators created by voting for ObamaCare.

We never thought anyone would be nostalgic for the tax system of a few months ago, but post-ObamaCare, here we are.

Don't worry America... you are going to really love this new... more intimate relationship... with federal bureaucrats.

OH... and you are going to love paying for them to become much more intimate with you and you finances, purchases, investments, etc. Come on now... fess up or you are going to jail.

Obama Administration Approves First Direct Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Through New High-Risk Insurance Pools

(CNSNews.com) - If you want proof that President Obama's Executive Order on taxpayer-funded abortion was a sham, look no further than Pennsylvania, says House Republican Leader John Boehner (Ohio).

Boehner and other Republicans point to reports that the Health and Human Services Department is giving Pennsylvania $160 million to set up a new high-risk insurance pool that will cover any abortion that is legal in the state.

"The fact that the high-risk pool insurance program in Pennsylvania will use federal taxpayer dollars to fund abortions is unconscionable," Boehner said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Just last month at the White House, I asked President Obama to provide the American people with a progress report on the implementation of his Executive Order, which purports to ban taxpayer-funding of abortions. Unfortunately, the President provided no information, and the American people are still waiting for answers."

President Obama pledged that under his health care plan “no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”.....

When your word becomes worthless... just know... that your word is worthless.

If you don't care... there is no hope for you.

Tax report reveals Republicans may have been right about IRS costs relating to health-care law

A warning that federal tax officials will need more congressional funding to administer the Democrats’ health reform law has rekindled the partisan debate over its cost effectiveness.

Senior Republicans have said for months that the new responsibilities required of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) under the legislation would saddle the agency with billions of dollars in additional costs — expenses not accounted for in the bill.

A Wednesday report from the National Taxpayer Advocate (NTA), an independent watchdog within the IRS, backed those claims, finding that the agency currently lacks the resources to take on the new duties.

“I have no doubt the IRS is capable of administering social programs, including healthcare,” Nina Olson, head of the NTA, said in a statement. “But Congress must provide sufficient funding.”

Republicans quickly offered up a message to Democrats that boiled down to this: We told you so.

“Before ObamaCare passed, [Minority Leader John Boehner] and others warned that it would require an army of new IRS agents,” Boehner (R-Ohio) spokesman Michael Steel said in an email. “Democrats denied it. Now we know the truth.”

What is so difficult to grasp here?

We could write a law that says... "Everyone shall hereby be required to love everyone else... in the whole wide world."

It would be a great law... but the enforcing of it would be a small problem... I mean... Jesus spoke the very same law into existence 2,000 years ago,

Dem Baucus joins GOP in blasting Obama CMS recess appointment

Echoing Republicans, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) on Wednesday blasted the Obama administration for sidestepping Congress to install Donald Berwick atop the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

"Senate confirmation of presidential appointees is an essential process prescribed by the Constitution that serves as a check on executive power and protects Montanans and all Americans by ensuring that crucial questions are asked of the nominee — and answered," Baucus said in a statement....

The New York Times says it is "unusual"... others would certainly use other adjectives to describe Obama bypassing congressional approval of the man being given charge of implementing Nationalized Health Care over Medicare and Medicaid ... esp. when you consider the following quote in the article about the man's call for what he believes is the need for the rationing of medical benefits and services... to cap spending... and even more startling... he calls for a reduction of high-tech medical technology and surgry... and then goes on to express his greatest desire is to model our new system after Britain's miserable health care fiasco...

"...he has spoken of the need to ration health care and cap spending, has supported efforts to “reduce the total supply of high-technology medical and surgical care” and has expressed great admiration for the British health care system..."

Now... we were told by the President that there would be no reduction in benefits... so... do you think there is something wrong with this picture.

Obama to Bypass Senate to Name Health Official

WASHINGTON — President Obama will bypass Congress and appoint Dr. Donald M. Berwick, a health policy expert, to run Medicare and Medicaid, the White House said Tuesday.

Dan Pfeiffer, the White House communications director, said the “recess appointment” was needed to carry out the new health care law. The law calls for huge changes in the two programs, which together insure nearly one-third of all Americans.

Mr. Pfeiffer said the president would appoint Dr. Berwick on Wednesday. Mr. Obama decided to act because “many Republicans in Congress have made it clear in recent weeks that they were going to stall the nomination as long as they could, solely to score political points,” Mr. Pfeiffer said.

As a recess appointee, Dr. Berwick will have all the powers of a permanent appointee.... The recess appointment was somewhat unusual because the Senate is in recess for less than two weeks and senators were still waiting for Dr. Berwick to submit responses to some of their requests for information. No confirmation hearing has been held or scheduled.

Although hospital executives who have worked with Dr. Berwick describe him as a visionary, inspiring leader, he would have faced a long, difficult struggle to win Senate confirmation....

In two decades as a professor of health policy and as a prolific writer, Dr. Berwick has championed the interests of patients and consumers. At the same time, he has spoken of the need to ration health care and cap spending, has supported efforts to “reduce the total supply of high-technology medical and surgical care” and has expressed great admiration for the British health care system....

Do you think that Obama doesn't want the man to have to answer questions to congress as to why he wants to style our new "system" after the "British System"... and why he cherishes the idea of rationing health care and cap spending?

I think we have jumped onto a very slippery slope... and the direction and speeds are accelerating...

Elena Kagan balances your diet

Elena Kagan, in her hearing on Tuesday, seemed to accept the federal government’s power to force you to eat three servings of fruits and vegetables every day. She opined that it would be a “dumb law” but refused to say it was unconstitutional.

Supporters of limited government have long been concerned about skewed interpretations of the Constitution that justify government intervention into whole swathes of life far beyond the Framers’ contemplation. But hearing a Supreme Court nominee say that Congress could regulate one of the most private decisions a human being makes—what to eat—is about as bad as any nightmare scenario a tin-foil-hat conspiracy theorist can conjure.

And Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) was not wearing any kind of hat when he asked his fruits-and-vegetables question.

For several months now, serious scholars have been arguing that if the government can force people to buy health insurance, there is nothing the government can’t force you to do. “Cash for clunkers” not reviving the auto industry? Make everyone buy a Chevy. Housing industry still not sufficiently stimulated? Mandate that people can only live in houses built in the last decade.

It’s not any kind of logical leap to ask whether, in the name of combating our obesity epidemic and lowering national health care spending, the government can regulate gastronomic intake—or require people to join a gym (assuming the health club company has successfully lobbied for its franchises to be on the “approved” list).....

Are we paying attention?
