Daily Nugget

Thursday, August, 28th, 2014.  Today's cherished nugget from Guest Blogger, Pastor Bill.

Mamie made frequent trips to the branch post office. One day she confronted a long line of people who were waiting for service from the postal clerks. Mamie only needed stamps, so a helpful observer asked, “Why don’t you use the stamp machine? You can get all the stamps you need, and you won’t have to wait in line.”

Mamie said, “I know, but the machine can’t ask me about my arthritis.”

Many of the modern conveniences save time and money, but move us farther and farther away from interaction with each other. For example, the car that has made getting to church quicker and easier also takes us farther away more quickly.

Let us remember to take time for each other, to show others we care, to be of service when we can. Remember the words from the writer of Galatians 6:2: “Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

God, thank You for our Christian family.  Amen.

Yahweh, Day 90

Day 90

Yahweh: Rides The Clouds

Sing to God! Sing praises to His name.
Exalt Him who rides on the clouds—
His name is Yahweh — and rejoice before Him.

A father of the fatherless
and a champion of widows
is God in His holy dwelling.

God provides homes for those who are deserted.
He leads out the prisoners to prosperity...

Psalm 68:4-6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Exalting the one that rides the clouds... This is of course a picture of superior position.

In this Psalm we will see just a few of the things that do in fact make Him superior.

Someone asked a little boy, “How many brothers have you?” The child stated the number, adding, “and one in heaven.” “No, my son,” interposed his mother. “You have no brother in heaven.” “Yes, I have,” said the boy. “Didn’t you tell me that God was my Father, and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Then He must be my Brother in heaven.”

With all the challenges in the world today I can be like the little fellow. I, too, am excited to have a Brother in heaven. The writer of 1 John 2:1 encourages us this way: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

God,thank You for letting me be a part of Your family through the blood of Jesus.
Amen.

Yahweh Day 89

Yahweh, Day 89

Yahweh: Allows One To Be... Ridiculous.

But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives, I stand before Him. I will not accept it." Naaman urged him to accept it, but he refused. Naaman responded, "If not, please let two mule-loads of dirt be given to your servant, for your servant will no longer offer a burnt offering or a sacrifice to any other god but Yahweh.
2Kings 5:16-17 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Now Naaman vows to worship no other god than Yahweh... yet... in the same breath follows with an admission that he is going to continue worshiping with his king at the Temple of Rimmon...

"... However, in a particular matter may the Lord pardon your servant: When my master, [the king of Aram], goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship and I, as his right-hand man, bow in the temple of Rimmon-when I bow in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord pardon your servant in this matter." So he said to him, "Go in peace."...
2Kings 5:18-19 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

... So...

*First Naaman tries to dictate to Elisha...

*Then he tries to buy Elisha...

*Then he tries to influence Elisha by some material presence...

*Now he feigns to vow total allegiance to Elisha's God, Yahweh...

*Followed with an immediate admission that he will continue worshiping the wretched idol of Rimmon...

One can almost hear the total exasperation in Elisha's voice as he replies, "Go in peace."

I think Elisha is saying... "Would you please get out of here and stop this ridiculous charade!"

It was... the last time they would ever meet.

A man had just had his annual physical exam and was waiting for the doctor’s initial report. After a few minutes, the doctor came in with his charts in his hand and said, “There’s no reason why you can’t live a completely normal life as long as you don’t try to enjoy it.”

That is contrary to the words of Jesus in John 10:10 when He says, “I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.”

On the other hand, does a relationship with Jesus make us abnormal after all, for the writer of 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we are “a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

God, thank You for making me different through a relationship with You. Amen.

Daily Nugget

Charles H. Spurgeon once wisely observed, “If a man might have a cottage on a hundred years’ lease, he would prize it much more than the possession of a palace for a day.”

The blessings are that though the stay here on earth is temporary, we can spend forever with someone who loves us. John 3:16 encourages us with the following statement: “For God so loved the world that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” In other words, trust Him and live forever.

God, thank You! Amen.

Yahweh, Day 88

Day 88, Yahweh: It's His Dirt
2Kings 5:16-17 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
“But Elisha said, ‘As the Lord lives, I stand before Him. I will not accept it.’ Naaman urged him to accept it, but he refused. Naaman responded, ‘If not, please let two mule-loads of dirt be given to your servant, for your servant will no longer offer a burnt offering or a sacrifice to any other god but Yahweh.’”
Another Eastern/Oriental effort to maintain control of a person is to 'plant' some piece of property on or near the person one is trying to control.  Naaman, by desiring to place two donkey laden bags of dirt, is in essence attempting to place a permanent reminder of himself in the presence of the prophet ... and thereby God.
This is another effort to control God ... the only problem for Naaman ... and all mankind ... is that the dirt is God's to begin with.  Yahweh will not be controlled by what is already His.
It's in The Name.
Intercessory Prayer:  Dear Father, all that we have, all that we are, all that we could ever be or enjoy … is in You.  Thank You for Your gift to us that is of ultimate value … Jesus.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
