Day 105

Yahweh

His Faithful Love Destroys

Because of Your name, Yahweh, let me live. In Your righteousness deliver me from trouble, and in Your faithful love destroy my enemies. Wipe out all those who attack me, for I am Your servant.
Psalm 143:11-12 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Dear one... are you truly aware of how deeply Yahweh... loves... you?

If so then what is it that you fear?

Our enemies are real... and varied... both physical and spiritual enemies. If we would but understand that the greatest enemies are those that war against our very souls.

Call on Yahweh to destroy those enemies first... then we will know how to pray for those physical enemies... for His Name's sake.

Saturday, July 31st. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds you down or polishes you up depends upon what you are made of.” (Unknown)

In this life, we will face situations that wear on us. That pressure is not necessarily going to be something we do or did, but sometimes as a child of God, we are going to face trials.

The writer of 1Peter 4:12-14 gives us these words of encouragement:
“Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.“

"God, thank You for not only understanding our struggles, but for being here with us.
Amen."

The Chaplain's Corner

Guest blogger, Chaplain Paul, is one of the most effective chaplains in America today. He is an emergency responder to every situation.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

I get a lot of catalogs in the mail; most of them specialize in emergency service equipment. A new one came today. One section that always catches my attention is the flashlights. I don't really need any more flashlights, but I like to look at all the new innovations.

One of the best known brands is 'Maglites', and I have several of those. Going out in the dark without a good flashlight is a big mistake. More than once my Maglite has saved me from being hurt by helping me stay on the right path, avoid stepping in a hole or tripping over something.

We live in a dark world - there are so many dangers all around us. So many holes we could fall in and so many things we could trip over. We need a light to show us where to walk and where to avoid walking.

God has not left us in the dark without a light. We have His Word, the Bible. But, like my Maglite, it does not help if I leave it at home on the shelf. I have to
have the flashlight in my hand, and I have to have God's word in my heart.

Psalm 119 verse 105 says,
"By your words I can see where I'm going; they
throw a beam of light on my dark path." (The Message)
Do you feel like you have been stumbling around in the dark? Are you carrying your flashlight? Do you have God's word in your heart? Are you letting His Word give direction and guidance to your life, or are you choosing to go your own way?

Choosing to go your own way sure does get you a lot of pain along the path; and if you continue that direction it can lead to death and eternal separation from one One who loved you so much that He gave His life to save you. Will you let Jesus Christ be the light for your life? Will you invite Him to come into your heart and forgive your sins and put you on the path that leads to heaven?

Avery Willis is the author of the MasterLife discipleship series that has been used greatly by God for the training and edification of the Saints.

Brother Avery has gone on to be with the Lord and I received this e-mail written by his son, Randy, from our blogger friend David Orr Patterson.

I thought I would share it and it's message of hope and burden with you today.

My dad graduated to Glory early this morning, July 30. He died peacefully, without pain or anxiety. My mom, sisters and brother were with him.

I thank each of you that have visited, called, written and prayed over his past seven months. Your words of encouragement meant so much to him and to all of us.

What a privilege to hear of the lives he impacted during his 76 years. May that influence extend through the generations…

My dad’s life verse was Psalm 71:17-18,
“Since my youth, O God, you have taught me and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation and your might to all who are to come.”
And so he did.

This is the time to celebrate a life. Do we not know the God who spoke the world into existence? Do we not know the only God who provides true forgiveness of sin?
Do we not know the God of the ages, who knows the end from the beginning?

This is not a time to mourn as those who have no hope. If my dad were still here, he would say we should be mourning for those that have no hope – those that do not know the Creator of the universe, the Forgiver of sin, the Eternal God – for the billions of people in the world that do not know the power of the name of Jesus.

Thank you again for all your care and support.

To God be the glory!

Randy

A spiritual SALUTE to Brother Willis and his family.

Joseph Lollino is one of our newest true American Heroes.

via The Borg Conspiracy

While serving as an Army Medic in Afghanistan, Sergeant Joseph Lollino had one goal for himself: keep his Soldiers alive. On June 20, 2008, he knew that the mission that day would be an important test of his abilities.

"I just wanted to make sure the guys were safe. They were good friends of mine," he said. "I had a goal – I didn't want anybody in my unit to die."

On that day in June, Lollino’s unit and its column of 30 armored vehicles had to drive through "ambush alley" in Paktika Province, an infamous road squeezed between two mountain ranges that were full of insurgents. What he and his Soldiers didn’t realize was that they were embarking on a 14-hour journey near the Pakistani border that would test Lollino’s vow to bring all his men home alive.

"There were two mountainsides on both sides, with a small dip on the left side of the road, so that makes it very difficult to maneuver around. It was very rocky with some trees," he said.

The military vehicles were moving through the area when they were ambushed by armed insurgents using rocket-propelled grenades. During the barrage of enemy fire, the third vehicle in the convoy was disabled by a rocket-propelled grenade and pushed out of the kill zone. Lollino drove his Humvee directly into the firefight to help the wounded and set up a casualty collection point behind the disabled vehicle. Directly under enemy fire, Lollino treated four wounded Soldiers and used his personal weapon to fire back at the insurgents. Three of the wounded soldiers were hit by shrapnel, and a fourth suffered from smoke inhalation.

"As the (casualty collection point) started taking fire, I returned fire," he said. "I used a couple of magazines until the truck got behind us, then the .50 cal (machine gun) and the Mark 19 (grenade launcher) took over."

The enemy fire intensified, and Lollino was hit by shrapnel while trying to cover the wounded with his own body. Despite his own injuries, Lollino loaded the four wounded Soldiers in another vehicle and continued to treat them while the convoy fought through the three kilometer kill zone.

"They shot RPGs at us, and I got down to cover one of the wounded who had very bad shrapnel wounds," he explained. "I just wanted to do my job, fix the guys, make sure no one died. Everybody has a family we all wanted to go back to."

In combat zones, Medics often need to take on more responsibility than just treating the wounded.

"I learned that even as a Medic, you're always going to be a soldier first," said Lollino. "When it comes down to it, when we start taking fire, you have to fire back."

For his "gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty," Lollino earned the Distinguished Service Cross, the military's second-highest honor to recognize valor, as well as the Purple Heart. He was presented with the honor by Lieutenant General Eric Shoomaker, Surgeon General of the Army, on May 17 during the Army Medical Symposium in San Antonio, Texas.

"It’s a good feeling," he said. "But I did what any medic would do."

Lollino, a native of Streamwood, Ill., is currently working in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii.

And a hearty SALUTE to Medic Lollino!

“Always do right. This will gratify most people, and astonish the rest.” Mark Twain

In a day when the world expects the worst in people, it is time to over deliver by doing the right thing. First of all, we must remember and choose to follow the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:44-48:

“I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”
"God, let my walk with You encourage others.
Amen."

Day 104

Yahweh

His Righteous Deliverance

Because of Your name, Yahweh, let me live. In Your righteousness deliver me from trouble, and in Your faithful love destroy my enemies. Wipe out all those who attack me, for I am Your servant.
Psalm 143:11-12 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The appeal to God's Righteous Deliverance... is actually an appeal to be wrapped in God's Righteousness... to be covered by God's Presence.

Child of God... we are shrouded within a Holy Presence. Recognize this. Relish this.

When all hell is unleashed against you... celebrate inside the Righteousness of Yahweh.

This is our earnest... invested in us by Yahweh.

Thursday, July 29th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Christianity must be practical. Two children were afraid they would be late for school. One said, “Let’s kneel down and pray to God that He may help us not to be late.” The other child offered a more practical solution: “No, let’s run and pray at the same time.”

Saint Augustine is credited with this quote, “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.” The apostle Paul challenges us with these words in 1st Corinthians 4:2:
“It is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.”

"God, help me as I do what I am able to do, especially to stay out of Your way.
Amen."

Our new Chicago bred educator... that made Chicago's public schools the "city on a hill" for American education... wants our kids in school 12 or so hours a day... all year long... 7 days a week.

Daily Caller
Education secretary calls for 12-hour school days, longer school years

If Education Secretary Arne Duncan has his way, kids would be spending a lot more time at school — and a three-month summer would be a thing of the past.

Duncan joked with attendees at a luncheon at the National Press Club Tuesday in Washington that he would like schools to stay open 13 months out of the year. Then he told the audience of over 100 that he seriously supports longer school hours.

“In all seriousness, I think schools should be open 12, 13, 14 hours a day, seven days a week, 11-12 months of the year,” Duncan said. “This is not just more of the same. There would be a whole variety of after-school programs. Obviously academics would be at the heart of that. But you top it off with dancing, art, drama, music, yearbook, robotics, activities for older siblings and parents, ESL classes.”

He continued by explaining that the American school calendar is antiquated and must be modified so that American students can compete at the highest levels internationally.

“Most people realize that our current day is based on the agrarian economy, and we don’t have too many kids working out in the fields nowadays,” Duncan said. “Schools in countries that are beating us are going to school 25-30 days more than us. If you practice basketball five times a week, you’re gonna be better than the people who practice three times a week.”....

“As you guys know, our world has changed, our economy has changed,” said Duncan. “The days of telling kids to go home at 2:30 and having mom there with a peanut butter sandwich, those days are gone. Whether it’s a single parent working one, two, three jobs or two parents working, the hours from 3 o’clock to 7 o’clock are a huge anxiety, and that’s why we have to keep our schools open longer.”.....

Since the Public Education system is in such a state of failure according to Mr. Duncan... then that's just what we need... much more of it.

What they are of course after is "State Controlled Kids" with both parents working their tails off to pay the State to raise their kids... excuse me... raise the State's kids... just like the State wants them.

Thanks Mr. Duncan for so clearly stating exactly what we have been saying you progressives have desired all along.

I however, don't think you are going to succeed... you are just showing your hand.

Wednesday, July 28th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Leonardo da Vinci had started work on a large canvas in his studio. For awhile he worked at it—choosing the subject, planning the perspective, sketching the outline, applying the colors, with his own inimitable genius. Then suddenly he ceased, the painting still unfinished, and, summoning one of his students, invited him to complete the work. The student protested that he was both unworthy and unable to complete the great painting which his master had begun. But da Vinci silenced him. “Will not what I have done inspire you to do your best?”

Our Master began two thousand years ago—by what He said, by what He did, and supremely by what He suffered. He illustrated His message and He has left us to finish the picture.

In the challenging times or our lives, we need to be encouraged by the words of the apostle Paul in Colossians 1:9-11:
“For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.”
"God, the trust You have placed in us is awesome; may we walk worthy. Amen."

I really didn't think I would see an opinion published on the Politico Opinion page like this one... esp. about the economic policies of the current administration.

Things must be worst than we even realize.

Obama, Reagan and the economy

It’s easy to understand why President Barack Obama’s friends don’t want to acknowledge that July represents 17 months since Congress passed the $787 billion economic stimulus bill — the president’s signature measure to jump-start the economy and fight unemployment.

Obama says the economy is headed in the right direction; jobs are being created, not lost, and he is doing everything possible to revive the “worst economy since the Great Depression.” Most of the national press has been remarkably accepting of this narrative — even if the president has been vague, at best, about when we might finally see an uptick in economic growth and job creation.

But in another economic time, President Ronald Reagan’s economic recovery program took 17 months to take hold. It took from the time Congress passed his tax cuts, in August 1981, until the recession he inherited finally ended in January 1983.

Unemployment hit a high of 10.8 percent in December 1982. But then economic growth spiked, and the unemployment rate began a long, steady decline throughout the 1980s. It was obvious the program was working when people stopped calling it “Reaganomics.”

Tax cuts were a part of Reagan’s effort to cut the size and scope of government to fight economic stagnation. “Government is not the solution,” Reagan said in his remarkably clear inaugural address. “It is the problem.”

In addition to tax cuts, Reagan reduced domestic discretionary spending and streamlined regulations to make them less of a burden on businesses seeking to create jobs. He believed that government should give individuals and businesses the proper incentives to grow and expand and not inhibit the private sector with high taxes and cumbersome regulations.

Reagan faced obstacles that Obama did not. The House he had to work with was always controlled by Democrats. More ominously, inflation was running at double-digit rates, and it took nearly a year for the Federal Reserve to squeeze those pressures out of the system.

Regardless, in the end, Reagan’s program worked. The turnaround began 17 months later.

Fast-forward to today. The Obama administration says that government-directed investment, via huge spending increases, can revive the economy. It’s now stimulus plus 17. Is there a turnaround in sight?

Apparently not. Obama’s own budget estimates, released just last week, project trillion-dollar deficits, anemic economic growth coming out of a recession and unemployment near 9 percent for 2011 and 8 percent for 2012.

You have to go back to the 1930s to find a period in which unemployment has been so high for so long. This economic record would make former President Jimmy Carter blush.

Yet Obama continues to get a pass on his version of recent economic events. He has said that he inherited the worst recession since the Great Depression. He didn’t. The economies inherited by both President Gerald Ford in 1974 and Reagan in 1981 were far worse.

Obama has said the stimulus has saved 3 million jobs. It hasn’t. We have nearly that many fewer jobs than before the stimulus was passed in February 2009, and the unemployment rate is 1½ percentage points higher than what he claimed would be the high point once his program was enacted.

Obama has said he is doing all he can to revive the economy. Actually, he’s doing too much. The economic uncertainty that his “historic” health care and budget bills have created is doing more to hold back economic growth than anything else. Companies are hoarding cash rather than invest in Obama’s uncertain economic climate.

As a result, the recovery is anemic by historic standards.

So we have two historic presidents. Both inherited bad economies. One cut spending and taxes, and then, 17 months later, the economy boomed. The other increased taxes and spending. It’s now 17 months later.

Mr. President, we’re waiting.

Pretty strong stuff... esp. coming from Politico.

Day 102

Yahweh

Because of Your Name

Because of Your name, Yahweh, let me live.
Psalm 143:11 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The enemy had him all but done.

The Psalmist was pursued, crushed, in darkness, as though long dead. His spirit was weak and his heart filled with dismay... he was like parched land... yet he had one sliver to hang on too... he trusted God.

And... to what did he trust in God? The Psalmist trusted that God would move on behalf of the reputation of His name, Yahweh...
"because of Your name... Yahweh... let me live."

Have you learned to trust in God's concern for His Name... as it applies to your life here on earth?

Washington is full of peace monuments. We build one after every war. --- Unknown

As long as sin and man’s imperfections are here, we will never have true peace here on earth. As surprised as some folks are at the wars that are going on, we might be astonished if we knew of all the hotspots and potential wars in the wings--just waiting to escalate to the level where all will be aware of the threat.

The apostle Paul reminds us that while we are in the world, our peace is controlled by "The One" who is greater than this entire world. For example, in Philippians 4:7, Paul says,
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

"God, thank You that You are dependable in a world that has so much confusion.

"Power in the Spoken Word"

Guest blogger, Stan Nussbaum, takes us on a journey through the messianic year calendar.

Welcome to the journey of our Messiah through the year with Dr. Nussbaum.

“When he woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the water, ‘Quiet down!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.” Mk. 4:39 (NLT)

Last week we looked at the incredible privilege and power of speaking into our situations in the name of Jesus. However, we did not deal with an underlying problem that may keep us from speaking that way. We are part of a culture that says words are merely words. If anyone suggests that words can carry unseen power, we brush it off as superstition or science fiction. “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

We need a reminder that the Messiah does not share our culture’s view. He says, “Let there be light,” and there is light. (Gen. 1:3) He says, “Quiet down!” and the rowdy storm quiets down. (Mk. 4:39) He says, “Your servant is healed,” and the centurion’s servant is healed back at his master’s house. (Mk. 8:5-13) And he will win earth’s final battle with “the sword of his mouth” (Rev. 19:15), that is, just by speaking. The power of his word is vastly more than the power of suggestion.

When someone has that kind of power, it is amazing that he does not use it immediately for total control. He could eliminate cancer, war, poverty, and environmental pollution in a flash. All he has to do is say the word. So why didn’t Jesus say it or why don’t we say it in his name?

Why does he use his power against evil selectively instead of comprehensively and absolutely? Because he has another way of speaking, a way that does not force things to happen. This other way is kingly proclamation.

A proclamation makes something official but the thing may not actually happen until the people who hear the proclamation believe it and start living accordingly. For example, the Emancipation Proclamation declared that slaves in non-Union states would become free on January 1, 1863, but those slaves were not functionally free until two years later when the Union won the war and could enforce the proclamation.

Jesus also made a proclamation. We totally underestimate the importance of that fact. Issuing the proclamation was the reason he was sent into the world. (Lk. 4:43) Publicizing the proclamation was what he sent his followers to do all over Israel during his ministry. (Mk. 10:5-8) His claim to have authority to issue the proclamation is what led directly to his trial, sentencing, and execution. (Mt. 26:63-68)

Exactly what was his proclamation?
“The reign of God is beginning!”
(Mt. 4:17, my translation)
Unlike Lincoln, Jesus could have enforced his proclamation from the day he first announced it but he didn’t. He gave people a chance to welcome it.
“The time is fulfilled. The reign of God is beginning. Turn and welcome the good news!”
(Mk. 1:15, my translation)

The proclamation was accompanied by other signs done through his words of power, like speaking to the storm. Those signs were enough to convince some people that his kingdom or reign was beginning but not enough to impose it on the unwilling. The Jewish leaders were sure the prophets had said the real Messiah would impose his control on everyone, especially the unwilling. Jesus fell far short of their messianic expectations.

The situation is the same for us today. When we speak in Jesus’ name, we continue to signal his arriving reign without imposing it. The effects of the power of his name give people a preview of what the world will look like when “his kingdom comes and his will is done.” It is not enough of a preview to compel the unwilling but it is plenty of evidence for those with eyes to see.

Welcome: Jesus our Messiah, we have heard your proclamation, and it is the best news ever. You and all your words are welcome here.

Affirmation: Jesus is the first word, the last word, and every word that matters in between.

“If you think I’m stupid, I’ll prove it!”
(Unknown)

The statement above may not have been actually uttered by someone, but many times the noted action has been played out in front of us and sometimes by us. It doesn’t have to be that way; in fact, the writer of James 1:5 gives us this advice:
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

If thinking is not our strong suit, then we shouldn't hesitate to ask for help.

Of course the southern hemisphere is in the middle of winter... and the temperature is "strangely" low in Peru... hundreds are dying of the cold... and this is coming to a winter soon near you.

Latin American Herald Tribune
Peru Government Declares Cold Wave Emergency in 16 Regions

LIMA – The Peruvian government declared a state of emergency because of the cold wave gripping a number of districts in the nation’s 16 regions, according to an urgent decree published Saturday in the official gazette.

The decree covers all districts of the country more than 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) above sea level, as well as three regions in the Peruvian jungle that have registered strangely low temperatures in the last few weeks.

According to official figures, so far this year at least 409 people have died of pneumonia and ailments related to the cold weather, most of them younger than 5 years old (200 deaths) and over 60 years (158 deaths).

The emergency declaration, which has a duration of 60 days, covers districts in the regions of Ancash, Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Junin, Lima, Moquegua, Pasco, Puno and Tacna, which in recent days reached a temperature of -24 C (-11 F).

A state of emergency was also declared in the jungle regions of Madre de Dios, Ucayali and Loreto.

The decree published Saturday also includes a series of measures that will allow regional and local governments to supply the affected populations with food and vaccines.

The armed forces were also called upon by Defense Minister Rafael Rey to carry out civic actions to help those populations most vulnerable to the cold.

I will say it again... prepare for a very cold and strange winter... prepare now.

Dwight L. Moody once said, “God’s business is not to be done wholesale. Christ’s greatest utterances were delivered to congregations of one or two.”

With those thoughts in mind, we should be reminded never to underestimate the contributions we make or to under evaluate the impact those acts may have on others. My prayer is that we let what Jesus said in Matthew 25:40 drip on us daily and soak into our minds and hearts, moving us to action:
“Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

"God, let my heart and actions be acceptable offerings to You.

Sue’s parents were very wealthy. They attended no church. A friend of Sue's invited her to a church service. She accepted the Lord. After she told her parents of her salvation, they told her if she attended this church again, she would have to leave home. Being only 16 years old, Sue was faced with a hard decision. She went to church again. As a result, her parents asked her to leave home. She packed several bags in preparation of leaving. Suddenly, her parents called her back, saying, “If you love God this much, we want to know Him too.” (Croft M. Pentz)

Is our love for God worth leaving all this world has to offer? If it is we have gained eternal riches. If not, we have sold out too cheaply. We must remember the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:25-26:
“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

"God, thank You today for wisdom and the peace that passes all understanding.
Amen."

The Chaplain's Corner

The Chaplain's Corner

Guest blogger, Chaplain Paul, is one of the most effective chaplains in America today. He is an emergency responder to every situation.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

A few days ago I was on a call out in the county; it was up on one of our area mountains. When I had completed my ministry I decided to take a different route back, what I thought would be a short cut, down the other side of the mountain because I needed to visit someone in that general direction.

I was not familiar with the roads in that area, but I was sure that as long as was headed in that direction, surely I could find my way. I said to myself, "I may not know where I'm at, but I think I'm going somewhere."

After driving about 30 minutes I came to the conclusion that I really did not know where I was, and I was not at all sure I was going in the right direction. So it was time to get out my GPS and let it lead me to where I needed to be. I thought I knew where I was going... I thought I knew the way... But!

There maybe someone reading this who is like that in a spiritual sense. You have a vague notion of where you want to go - heaven, some day - but you're not really sure
where you are, or even if you're on the right road. I like the way one of
the newer translations (The Message) renders what Jesus said in Matthew
7:13-14,
"Don't look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don't fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. The way to life-to God!-is vigorous and requires total attention."
We can find the same thought back in the Old Testament; Proverbs 14:12-13 says,
"There's a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again-it leads straight to hell. Sure, those people appear to be having a good time, but all that laughter will end in heartbreak." (Msg.)
I needed a GPS to find my way over the mountain; we all need Jesus to find our way to heaven, and following Him makes our journey a lot smoother. In John 14:6 He said,
"I am the Road, also the Truth, also the Life. No one gets to the Father apart from me." (Msg.)
There really is no substitute for Jesus!

Friday, July 23rd. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

"It isn’t what you know that counts; it’s what you can think of in time."
(Unknown)

How many times have we thought a day too late: “I wish I had said that”; or maybe, “I wish I had not said that.” Our emotions and our belated reactions bring to mind the truth of what the wise man said in Proverbs 25:11:
“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.”
A quote going around from an unknown source is,
"A closed mouth gathers no foot."
"God, help me get my brain ahead of my mouth and let my mouth function at the right time.
Amen."

Pastor Bill's Daily Nugget

Thursday, July 22nd. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“The mission of Jesus Christ cannot be defined without speaking of man being lost.”
(Henri Blocker)
The entire purpose of Jesus’ ministry can be summed up with His words in Matthew 18:1:
“For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.”
Praise God for sending His Son for me and you.

"God, thank You for sending Your Son and thank You for His obedience.
Amen."

Seek The Name

Day 101

Yahweh

Seek The Name

"Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek Your name, LORD. Let them be put to shame and terrified forever; let them perish in disgrace. May they know that You alone- whose name is Yahweh- are the Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 83:16-18 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Zephaniah gives us further light on this mandate to seek God's Name...
"Seek the LORD, all you humble of the earth, who carry out what He commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be concealed on the day of the LORD’s anger."
Zephaniah 2:3 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

This is therefore the purpose of this study of God's revealed name, Yahweh... that we may once again Know The Name... The Universal Name... for every language and kindred... to save and deliver... and unite all humanity once again.

It is in The Name... we are to seek it.

Wednesday, July 21th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Have you read about the little boy who returned home after his first Sunday school class? His mother asked, “Who was your teacher?"’ The little boy answered, “I don’t remember her name, but she must have been Jesus’ grandmother because she didn’t talk about anyone else.”
Do our conversations reflect our love for Jesus? Would our words give away our relationship with him? When it comes to telling others about Jesus, have we lost our enthusiasm? We should be as rabid in describing our relationship with God to our friends and even strangers as this teacher was in teaching the Bible lesson to children; after all, we are brothers and sisters to Christ and children of God.

We must remember these words of Jesus in Matthew 12:48-50:
“Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?" And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, "Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

"God, let me praise You with all my breath.
Amen."

Day 100

Yahweh

Purpose Of Judgment

"Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek Your name, Lord. Let them be put to shame and terrified forever; let them perish in disgrace. May they know that You alone- whose name is Yahweh- are the Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 83:16-18 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The Psalmist here captures the primary purpose of God's execution of Judgment... to reveal that He alone is Yahweh.

Some believe that God's Judgment is purely a function of His rage against sin... and therefore see God as some kind of angry, mad, creature... thrashing about in some sort of delirious tantrum...

... Even in Judgment... Yahweh is reaching out in a solemn effort to actually reveal Himself to humanity.

Objective Journalism

The Daily Caller is getting it's hands on and exposing the collaboration by the MSM moguls to protect, defend, and promote a political candidate... and in the process... to target and libel their political opponents for the planned purposes of their deceptive craft.

Daily Caller article
Documents show media plotting to kill stories about Rev. Jeremiah Wright
By Jonathan Strong

It was the moment of greatest peril for then-Sen. Barack Obama’s political career. In the heat of the presidential campaign, videos surfaced of Obama’s pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, angrily denouncing whites, the U.S. government and America itself. Obama had once bragged of his closeness to Wright. Now the black nationalist preacher’s rhetoric was threatening to torpedo Obama’s campaign.

The crisis reached a howling pitch in mid-April, 2008, at an ABC News debate moderated by Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. Gibson asked Obama why it had taken him so long – nearly a year since Wright’s remarks became public – to dissociate himself from them. Stephanopoulos asked, “Do you think Reverend Wright loves America as much as you do?”

Watching this all at home were members of Journolist, a listserv comprised of several hundred liberal journalists, as well as like-minded professors and activists. The tough questioning from the ABC anchors left many of them outraged. “George [Stephanopoulos],” fumed Richard Kim of the Nation, is “being a disgusting little rat snake.”

Others went further. According to records obtained by The Daily Caller, at several points during the 2008 presidential campaign a group of liberal journalists took radical steps to protect their favored candidate. Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage.

In one instance, Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent urged his colleagues to deflect attention from Obama’s relationship with Wright by changing the subject. Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics, Ackerman wrote, “Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.”....

For any honest person regardless of which side of the isle one sits... we are witnessing the rapid death of true journalism in America.

As with the unicorn... the myth is being exposed... and what the progressives need to realize is that the prejudiced sword of an indebted media cuts both ways.

George Sweeting wrote about the desperate need for honesty in our culture. He referred to Dr. Madison Sarratt, who taught mathematics at Vanderbilt University for many years. Before giving a test, the professor would admonish his class: “Today I am giving two examinations, one in trigonometry and the other in honesty. I hope you will pass them both. If you must fail one, fail trigonometry. There are many good people in the world who can’t pass trig, but there are no good people in the world who cannot pass the examination of honesty.”

The same test applies daily to each of us. The choices are as Joshua said in Joshua 24:15:
“Choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
In real life, we can define the choice as "pass-fail."

"God, let me pass Your test daily.
Amen."

Day 99

Yahweh

Our Desperate Appeal

"Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek Your name, Lord. Let them be put to shame and terrified forever; let them perish in disgrace. May they know that You alone- whose name is Yahweh- are the Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 83:16-18 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The Psalmist's appeal? Even though the Hebrews are the ones being persecuted... the appeal to God is on behalf of Yahweh... and his reputation/Name in the world.

This is the focus of the intercessor/warrior that God is looking for today as well... appealing to Yahweh... on behalf of His Name.

May we learn this.

Monday, July 19th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Henry Ward Beecher, while walking down a street, passed a newsboy shivering in the cold. Being moved with compassion toward him, the great preacher bought up all his newspapers, and when he handed over the money to him, he said, “Surely you are cold?” “I was,” replied the lad with a gulp, “till you passed, sir.”

Hopefully, we make a positive impact when we pass by others. Even to strangers, we are to be the friend that we all need. We must listen to the words of the writer of Psalms 35:14:
“I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother.”

"God, help me affect others' attitudes and altitudes.
Amen."

A missionary society was deeply impressed by the courageous devotion of David Livingstone, who worked single-handedly for God in Africa. The society wrote to Livingstone: “Have you found a good road to where you are? If so, we want to send other men to join you.” Livingstone replied, “If you have men who will come only if there is a good road, I don’t want them. I want men who will come if there is no road at all.”

The apostle Paul reminds us in 2nd Corinthians 5:7:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Even though we are in times that call for us to go where no road has been blazed, we must let these words encourage us in our daily living:
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." (Hebrews 13:5-6)

"God, You are the Light to my path.
Amen."

More progressive deception's are surfacing... and the IRS is going to grow not just in numbers... but is going to become extremely more... personal.

Wall Street Journal
Lost in Taxation: The IRS's vast new ObamaCare powers.

If it seems as if the tax code was conceived by graphic artist M.C. Escher, wait until you meet the new and not improved Internal Revenue Service created by ObamaCare. What, you're not already on a first-name basis with your local IRS agent?

National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson, who operates inside the IRS, highlighted the agency's new mission in her annual report to Congress last week. Look out below. She notes that the IRS is already "greatly taxed"—pun intended?—"by the additional role it is playing in delivering social benefits and programs to the American public," like tax credits for first-time homebuyers or purchasing electric cars. Yet with ObamaCare, the agency is now responsible for "the most extensive social benefit program the IRS has been asked to implement in recent history." And without "sufficient funding" it won't be able to discharge these new duties.

That wouldn't be tragic, given that those new duties include audits to determine who has the insurance "as required by law" and collecting penalties from Americans who don't. Companies that don't sponsor health plans will also be punished. This crackdown will "involve nearly every division and function of the IRS," Ms. Olson reports.

Well, well. Republicans argued during the health debate that the IRS would have to hire hundreds of new agents and staff to enforce ObamaCare. They were brushed off by Democrats and the press corps as if they believed the President was born on the moon. The IRS says it hasn't figured out how much extra money and manpower it will need but admits that both numbers are greater than zero.

Ms. Olson also exposed a damaging provision that she estimates will hit some 30 million sole proprietorships and subchapter S corporations, two million farms and one million charities and other tax-exempt organizations. Prior to ObamaCare, businesses only had to tell the IRS the value of services they purchase. But starting in 2013 they will also have to report the value of goods they buy from a single vendor that total more than $600 annually—including office supplies and the like.

Democrats snuck in this obligation to narrow the mythical "tax gap" of unreported business income, but Ms. Olson says that the tracking costs for small businesses will be "disproportionate as compared with any resulting improvement in tax compliance." Job creation, here we come . . . at least for the accountants who will attempt to comply with a vast new 1099 reporting burden.

Meanwhile, the IRS will be inundated with useless information, because without a huge upgrade its information systems won't be able to manage and track the nanodetails.

In a Monday letter, even Democratic Senators Mark Begich (Alaska), Ben Nelson (Nebraska), Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire) and Evan Bayh (Indiana) denounce this new "burden" on small businesses and insist that the IRS use its discretion to find "better ways to structure this reporting requirement." In other words, they want regulators to fix one problem among many that all four Senators created by voting for ObamaCare.

We never thought anyone would be nostalgic for the tax system of a few months ago, but post-ObamaCare, here we are.

Don't worry America... you are going to really love this new... more intimate relationship... with federal bureaucrats.

OH... and you are going to love paying for them to become much more intimate with you and you finances, purchases, investments, etc. Come on now... fess up or you are going to jail.

Guest blogger, Stan Nussbaum, takes us on a journey through the messianic year calendar.

Welcome to the journey of our Messiah through the year with Dr. Nussbaum.

July 18 – Power in the name of Jesus

“You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father.” Jn. 14:13 (NLT)

“In Jesus’ name.” This absolutely standard way to close a prayer has taken on the status of something close to a magical incantation, almost as if we think our prayer is more likely to be answered if we use that particular formula.

There does seem to be something powerful and mysterious about simply pronouncing the name Jesus. For example, people under demonic influence may be unable to say it. Also the miraculous use of the name seems to succeed sometimes even for people who do not have Jesus in them, as we read in Mt. 7:23-24 (NLT): “On judgment day many will tell me, ‘Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Go away; the things you did were unauthorized.’”

What is wrong with this picture? On the one hand we have so many of us believers today afraid ever to speak in Jesus’ name and expect anything miraculous to happen. On the other hand we read in Scripture of people speaking in his name all the time, seeing lots of miracles, and then being told that the miracles were “unauthorized”!

I believe the key to this ugly paradox is in the middle of the Jewish “sandwich” in John 14:13-14. The sandwich structure, technically called “chiasm,” is used widely in Jewish writing to emphasize one main point by bracketing it with parallel statements or ideas. John’s sandwich in these verses looks like this:

“You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it,
because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father.
Yes, ask anything in my name, and I will do it!”

Jewish readers are positive of two things when they see that sandwich. 1) The meat is the Messiah’s work bringing glory to the Father, and 2) The “bread” was never intended to be separated from that meat.

Bringing glory to the Father was Jesus’ agenda when he was on earth in person. If we have that same agenda, we are tracking with Jesus and we are able to ask for things genuinely “in his name.” We are “authorized” just like Peter and John healing the lame man in Jesus’ name. Then they testified that it was Jesus’ power not theirs that had healed him. (Acts 4:9-10) On the other hand, if we try to use the power of Jesus’ name to advance our own agenda of making a name for ourselves or impressing God with our spiritual power achievements, we will be just as “unauthorized” as the people who were doing that in Mt. 7.

The Message paraphrase of Jn. 14:13 captures the idea of “in his name” perfectly: “From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I'll do it.” The whole point of the Messianic Year is exactly that—to understand who the Messiah is and what he is doing. He is the one sent by the Father to bring us life, belonging, freedom, power, forgiveness, shelter, and glory so that in the power of the Spirit we can pass them on to the world, bringing glory to him and the Father.

So let us not use “in Jesus’ name” as a magical phrase or for our own power trip. Neither let us shrink back from using it and expecting its power to work. Rather let us use the power of the name for the purpose that the King desires, and may all heaven break loose!

Welcome: Jesus, Messiah, we welcome your power and your purpose. We love who you are and what you are doing. We want what you want.

Affirmation: Jesus is so powerful that even the mention of his name is more than the forces of darkness can bear. This war isn’t over but it’s won.

Here is a Praise Report that is certainly worthy of note!

Christian Web News report
Nearly 70,000 Lead to Christ in Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico Thanks to Billy Graham Ministry

Christian Web News - This year, Christians across the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico welcomed people into their homes for meetings and witnessed a combined total of 69,188 make commitments to Jesus Christ, reported the ministry behind the evangelism outreach.

“These faithful Christians took a bold step in inviting their friends and neighbors to their homes, and God truly worked through their efforts and prayers,” said Bill Conard, director of international ministries for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

“Projects like this show that evangelism is not only for pastors, but for anyone who longs for those around them to experience the hope and love found only in Jesus Christ,” he added.

For months, Christians across the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico were being prepared and equipped for the project – part of the BGEA’s “My Hope” ministry.

The programs culminated in a combined total of more than 59,000 home events in March and April, which included a TV program featuring a sermon from Billy or Franklin Graham and a personal testimony from the host.

Altogether over 5,500 churches from across the evangelical spectrum were reportedly involved in the projects.

As a result, 55,391 people in the Dominican Republic made commitments to Christ. In Puerto Rico, 13,797 did the same.

My Hope, which began in 2002, has inspired such projects in 50 countries.

Projects coming up this year will take place in Malawi and four sensitive countries in Asia. Preparations are beginning for 2011, for potential My Hope outreaches in Portugal, Spain, Haiti and select African countries.

The old spiritual war horse just keeps waging high spiritual combat.

Some 70,000 souls saved.

Do you ever feel like letting up? Don't.

During the presidential election we were assured over and over that there would be no new taxes on anyone making under $250,000 a year... that has now officially been adjusted down to every American will now officially be taxed for health care.... every single one.

New York Times report
Changing Stance, Administration Now Defends Insurance Mandate as a Tax

WASHINGTON — When Congress required most Americans to obtain health insurance or pay a penalty, Democrats denied that they were creating a new tax. But in court, the Obama administration and its allies now defend the requirement as an exercise of the government’s “power to lay and collect taxes.”

And that power, they say, is even more sweeping than the federal power to regulate interstate commerce.....

The Trojan horse's trap door is swinging wide open for all to see.

Peggy Noonan has some really good advise for the new Prime Minister of Britain.

Mr. Cameron would do well to listen... as well as a few people this side the pond.

Telegraph UK
David Cameron, don't follow Barack Obama....

By Peggy Noonan

Dear Mr Cameron, welcome young friend. Welcome to America. Bring your bright, dashing self to our shores. Speak your piece with affection and modesty and go home a wiser man.

As for your own leadership, here is some advice. Do not imitate Mr Obama. He has been a disappointment; learn from his mistakes. ...

...You can today go to any office of any great leader in America and Britain – business leader, church leader, political leader – and you will find the great topic of conversation, the great focus of attention, the object of daily obsession, is not the mission (making money, spreading faith, leading an anxious citizenry in the right direction) but how the mission is playing in the media. It's all they talk about....

In Mr Obama's poll numbers this week, CBS News reports 13 per cent of the people think his economic leadership has bettered their lives. That means 87 per cent do not – that is rather a lot. The Rasmussen Reports' daily tracking poll yesterday showed 43 per cent strongly disapprove of his leadership and 26 strongly approve. This is low....

Here are the things he got wrong. In the middle of an economic crash, and in the middle of record-breaking federal budgets and budget deficits, Mr Obama started a new entitlement....

Moreover, the President's decision to focus his entire first year on health care, when the voters were focused on the economy, on unemployment, on deficits, demonstrated, in the end unhappily for him and frustratingly for his fellow citizens, that he simply wasn't thinking about what they were thinking about.... He came across as a detached academic who believed in abstract notions he'd picked up in the faculty lounge.

To make it all worse, just before he went down the health care pass, he put forward, and saw passed, a stimulus Bill that shockingly – I am not being ironic – could not draw the support of a single Republican congressman. Not one. He should have done everything he could, made whatever painful compromises, to garner just a little grouping of Republican support. He needed a Bill he could claim as bipartisan.

Instead, he and his geniuses in the Democratic caucus in Congress decided to do it their way, get the Bill they wanted, and paint the Republicans on the Hill as mere obstructionists – "the party of No". But being the party of No to Obama/Pelosi came to look pretty good pretty fast, and the President united the Republicans in opposition. Before his first year they'd been at each other's throats; now they were at his. He forgot to keep his foes confused.

Most seriously, he neglected to hold the centre. He came to be seen, and again it's reflected in the polls, as a leader who governs from the Left. ....

Finally, he confused business with Wall Street. No one likes Wall Street after the crash, even Wall Street. They're all dyeing their hair and going to art shows down there. But business? Everyone in America is in business, they want favourable conditions, a sympathetic environment, they want a president who takes steps that encourage them. Or who at least has a sense of what the hell they do.

It's the faculty-lounge problem again: people in business deal with real things, people in faculty lounges deal with ideas, abstractions, theories; they're swayed by this school of thought and that; they're macro. Businessmen must be micro: "Hey buddy, I'm trying to open a dry cleaners over here!"

So: you get only one chance to make a first impression, and President Obama made one over the past 18 months, and it wasn't good. He's losing the room.

To the extent that Britain's politics are like America's, Mr Cameron, look and learn. Hold the centre, focus on the economy – now and always the key to electoral success – and care what is on the people's minds, as much as what's on your own.

Advice on your visit? Love America. It not only deserves it, at the moment it needs it. Our morale is low. Do you want to help preserve what has been called the Special Relationship? (Actually, I don't know: do you?) If you do, then when you speak here, speak of your love for this great nation. We don't, not in a deep way and not enough. Even our President doesn't. He tries, but he can't get it right because it's all so abstract to him. He associates patriotism with nationalism. But patriotism springs from legitimate love and gratitude, nationalism from shallow aggression and conceit. Obama confuses the two, can't get them straight in his head, and winds up saying little, badly. People don't like this, either.

Anyway, when you speak of America speak with love. People will hear you. It will break through the clutter, as your media obsessives say. It will be a new message, or one Americans haven't heard in a while done well, and truly. And don't focus-group it. Mean it.

Two caterpillars were crawling across the grass when a butterfly flew over them. They looked up, and one nudged the other and said, “You couldn’t get me up in one of those things for a million dollars.”
When we look back at where change and progress has taken place in our Christian life, we see our transformation many times is as dramatic as the caterpillar to the butterfly. Let us ascribe to the apostle Paul’s words in Romans 12:2,
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

"God, let me grow to reflect the brilliance You create in me.
Amen."

Friday, July 16th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

"God give us men.
The time demands
Strong minds, great hearts,
True faith and willing hands;
Men whom the lust of office does not kill;
Men whom the spoils of office cannot buy;
Men who possess opinions and a will;
Men who have honor; men who will not lie;
Men who can stand before a demagogue
And damn his treacherous flatteries without winking;
Tall men, sun-crowned men,
who live above the fog In public duty and in private thinking."

(John G. Holland)

Our days cry out for such men and women today. Remember to pray for the leaders in control, for their families, and for God to raise up men and women who will stand for righteousness. Remember the words of the apostle Paul in Romans 8:26-28:
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

"God, give us leaders of wisdom and integrity to bring us back to You.
Amen."
