“Indifference to evil is more insidious than evil itself; it is more universal, more contagious, more dangerous.”  Abraham J. Heschel (1907–1972)

To say the devil’s holidays are of no effect to you is to misunderstand his methods and motives. The desire of satan is for us to be lulled to sleep thinking his movies are just entertainment and his holiday is just about candy, fun and games. Ephesians 5:11 “And  have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”  Be careful what you allow to inhabit your life.  Paul reminds us in Romans 12:2, “Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove that which is good, and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
God, give us wisdom to walk wisely while we are here on earth.

John Newton claims, “For my own part, if my pocket was full of stones, I have no right to throw one at the greatest backslider upon the earth. I have either done as bad or worse than he, or I certainly should if the Lord had left me a little to myself; for I am made of just the same materials: if there be any difference, it is wholly of grace.”

A heart like that is able to sing John Newton’s song that most people know and to which we can all relate: “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.” The words of that beautiful song help us remember the words of the writer of Ephesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of  yourselves, it is a gift of God--Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
God, thank You for Your amazing grace.   Amen.

“I keep my message on the level of a third-grade student” (Dr. Michael Guido).

In the quote above, DR. Michael Guido was pointing to the success of his ministry. Likewise, the communicator God chose to write many of the New Testament books, the Apostle Paul, said this: “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power” (1 Cor. 1:17 NIV). Sometimes less is more.

God, give me the ability to convey Your truths in such a simple way that even I am able to understand. Amen.

The pessimist complains about the wind, the optimist expects it to change, and the realist adjusts the sails (Unknown).

Much thought and conversation is given to the weather each day, and the truth is the weather is still the same. It has often been said, "You can talk all you want to, but you are not going to change the weather."  In light of global warming, this notice may or may not be true.  After all,  how much of it is from just a bunch of hot air?

In the letter to the Hebrews, we are told, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever” (13:8).   From this Scripture, we learn that no matter what we will face today, God’s love is a constant. His love will remain when everything else fades away.

God, thank You for knowing and for being trustworthy, not only for today, but also for tomorrow. Amen.

May God's blessings be with you in a powerful way as you start your week.

It is strange and impressive when we come to think how Providence, working with the same uniform materials in all human lives, can yet, like some skillful artist, produces endless novelty and surprises in each life.

No matter how many miles we have on us, God is constantly chipping, rounding, and polishing to make us into the pieces of work He intended for us to be from the beginning. The writer in Isaiah reminds us: “But now, O LORD, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand” (64:8).

God, help me to remember You are The Potter and I am the clay. Mold me the way You want me to be. Amen.

The Governor that can stop climate change!

This is just too precious!  There is a candidate running for the office of governor in Virginia that is promising to help end "Climate Change" if elected.  On man ... in one office ... that vows to combat the earth's changing climate.  I'm sure that God is taking an interest in this man.  Take a minute to listen to the one minute add promoting this candidate.

stopping climate change

This is madness, regardless of political party or persuasion.

“The presence of Christ brings us his power and ability to use our limited resources in his limitless ways” (Rebecca Manley Pippert).

Just as the small boy’s lunch was enough when he let Jesus take it, bless it, and break it (Matthew 14:13-21), when we let Him have what we have, our little is much in His hand.  Many times we see it is not our ability that God wants, but our availability.

God, my resources though limited are sufficient in Your hands. Thank You. Amen.

God, give me grace to see the beauty lying at my feet in the common places of life. Help me know that You are as near and as wonderful today as when people beheld You, Lord, when You lived on the earth.

Every day God plants blessings in our hands, lives, and minds. When depression and despair set in, we must look to God from Whom all blessings flow. Our daily prayer should be that of the psalmist: "One thing I ask of the Lord is...that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord..."(Psalm 27:4).

God, increase my faith in You and deepen my understanding of Your beauty that You created and sacrificed for me.

People will die this winter

It is going to be a very difficult winter for millions of humans due to the failed efforts of governments to do what only God can do.  You can see it in the following article from the UK.

People will die this winter

There is sometimes an almost vindictive streak in politics whereby governments follow policies which they know will harm the electorate but nonetheless they keep them, sometimes for years.
…….

In the 2010s it is not the price of bread that is falsely and unnecessarily inflated by obstinate politicians but that of energy. There are cheap sources of energy either available or possible but there is a reluctance to use them. Coal is plentiful and provides the least expensive electricity per megawatt, while fracking may provide a boon of shale gas. Unfortunately, coal-fired power stations are being shut down because of European Union regulations and shale gas exploration is moving at a slow pace.
It is against this background that energy companies have announced price rises. The regulations imposed by the Government underlie them and additional green taxes exacerbate the situation. The expansion of relatively expensive nuclear power at £92.50 per megawatt, almost double the current market price, is justified by some because it is cheaper than the quite unnecessary wind schemes. But it is much more expensive than coal or gas and these high energy prices which punish the poor most particularly are a matter of choice not of necessity.
The reason this has been done is, of course, because of climate change fears. But is it a reasonable or proportionate response? It is widely accepted that carbon dioxide emissions have risen but the effect on the climate remains much debated while the computer modelling that has been done to date has not proved especially accurate. Sceptics remember that computer modelling was behind the collapse of Lehman Brothers and the global financial crisis; common sense dictates that if the Meteorological Office cannot forecast the next season’s weather with any success it is ambitious to predict what will happen decades ahead. However, even if all their fears are right the influence of the United Kingdom is limited. This country is responsible for under 2 per cent of global emissions so even if the British freeze and industry is made uncompetitive it will not save the world........

You can read the rest of the article here.

And what few people realize is that God is causing the alarmists to appear as foolish as they are arrogant.  For any man, government or group to suggest that humanity has the ability to control the climate of the earth is a direct challenge to the sovereign authority of God alone.  It is very unfortunate that many innocent humans will die as a result of man's arrogance and spiritual stupidity.

God ... have mercy.

“Don’t pray just when you feel like it. Have an appointment with The Lord and keep it” (Corrie ten Boom).

We tend to give God what is left, or we try to squeeze a minute or two in during the day. What we (and our country) need is for us to get serious in our meetings with God. The writer of II Chronicles puts it this way:“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (7:14).

God, we, Your people, need Your touch on our land. Begin in my heart. Amen. Give God glory, honor, and praise.

“Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds. A sense of humor is just common sense, dancing” (William James).

Today is the birthday of my brother Doug. If you lack common sense or a sense of humor, he will wear you out with one or both of his. He has one of the quickest wits and the most active sense of humor of anyone I have ever met. He has an uncanny ability to elicit a laugh at a time when you least expect it. When our family has been together, I have watched Doug move the whole crowd into laughing till tears run down our cheeks.

The wise writer of Proverbs 17:22 told us: “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Believe me, Doug has added years to his friends and our family as he has applies his humor to his common sense.

God, thank You for those who bring joy and laughter to our hearts. Thank You for my brother Doug and for the blessing he is to our family and friends. Amen

Hope

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Silent Grief speaks today about ... hoping ...

Hope. That's the one thing we need when our child dies. Hope that every day won't feel dark and lonely. Hope that someday we will see our child again. Hope that others around us will share in our sorrow and help lift our pain. Hope that others will not have to suffer this same kind of pain of child loss. Hope that tomorrow will be a better day than today. Hope that there will be a day when we remember our child's life more vividly than our child's death. "Hope, please come visit us today" is the cry of every parent whose heart has been broken by the loss of a child.

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Silent Grief, and all who have lost a child. or a loved one.  I pray that You will hold them as close to Your heart as You hold the child they love and lost.

Father, bless them today.

People will accept your idea much more readily if you tell them Benjamin Franklin said it first.

Credibility is an issue in almost every aspect of our lives. We trust Dr.’s, teachers, and other people many times by the credentials they show us or by the letters following their names. The most trusted recommendation comes from word of mouth or on the reliability of personal experience.

Jesus tells us to “But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil” (Matthew 5:37).

God, let the words of my mouth be acceptable in Your sight. Amen.

“I treated him, God cured him” (Ambroise Paré, 1517–1590).

What if every physician were able to accept this belief? What if each minister grasped this statement? What if each teacher understood this idea?  When we do understand, God uses us to open doors; ultimately, however, the curing, salvation, and learning results are up to God.  Remembering how awesome God is keeps us humble.

The writer of James shares this truth with us: “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” (4:6).

God, You are the healer, teacher, and our all-in-all. Amen

“One hour with God infinitely exceeds all the pleasures and delights of this lower world” (David Brainerd).

Everything in this world pales in comparison to the privilege of spending time with the Creator, the Architect of the Universe. Often I get offers to learn from some of what would be considered some of today’s best mentors at the cost of hundreds or thousands of dollars; however, we are reminded in Matthew to “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (6:33).   Imagine trading time with God for time with less than the best.

God,  thank You for wanting to spend time with me and letting me hang out with You. Amen.

It just is

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Carolyn speaks today about ... platitudes ...

I suppose the well-meaning platitudes constitute advice, and I can see here we have all heard them. He's in a better place, it was all part of God's plan, he's not really dead he is alive and with God. Well, sorry, let's see God take your child to a "better place" as part of His plan and have YOUR child alive and with God and not on Earth and then come back and talk to me. From where I sit I can't see how any place could be a better place for him than here with his mother, isn't that why God entrusted him to me, and if this is God's plan I am afraid I don't think it's such a great one, and maybe my son is alive and with God, I hope he is, but I'd really prefer him to be here with me for a while and if he can't be I just wish he could send me a message to tell me he is, indeed, okay.

But the two that made me the angriest was a man that told me I was much better off because I know my son is with God whereas he was estranged from his daughter, and another man who told me he understood my pain because he is divorced and he only gets to see his son every couple of weeks. While I do understand the pain of each, can people really be so moronic as to think I wouldn't prefer my son to be alive, even if we are estranged, or that I wouldn't give anything and everything just to see my son one more time, let alone every two weeks? I lost it with these two people.

While it's probably good advice, it really ticked me off when a friend told me not to get stuck in my grief (I think I've even seen that term used here). She thinks I really should be over it by now. I hate that term. I am not stuck in this grief like it's something I can drag myself out of and move on. This grief is now my relationship with my son, I can't honestly ever see myself thinking of him with only joy, although he was my joy, because I'll obviously never be able to think of him without feeling the pain of his not being here. This grief is not something I am stuck it, it just is.
Carolyn

“Don’t try to deal with sin, for you are sure to lose. Deal with Christ; let Him deal with your sin, and you are sure to win” (Arthur HE. Elfstrand).

Too many times in wrestling with sin, folks come to embrace it. When we embrace sin, we find ourselves in a like-situation as Tar Baby in an Uncle Remus’s Fable. First, we just look at it. Next we poke at it, and then we find ourselves entangled. The writer of James gives us this good advice: “Submit yourself to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (4:7). I don’t know about you, but as far as I am concerned he can run on off any time now.

God, thank You for staying beside me. You know I have no strength on my own. Keep me from all sin. Amen.

“Do not judge men by mere appearances; for the light laughter that bubbles on the lip often mantles over the depths of sadness, and the serious look may be the sober veil that covers a divine peace and joy” (Edwin Hubbell).

Everyone we meet has a story. Each lives with a tale of worry or grief or joy or happiness or victory. To look on others' countenance is but to see the tip of the iceberg we carry with us.   The writer of Proverbs gives this advice: “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (18:24).

God, help me to see with Your eyes an hear with Your ears the friends You have for me to see here on earth. Amen.
