My child is not here

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Silent Grief speaks today about ... absence ...

No matter where we are or what we're doing, there is always one thought that is prominent in our minds: My child is not here. That thought can never be erased. It is part of our soul. One day maybe people will understand that it's a total impossibility for us to "get over it", "put this in the past", "stop dwelling on your loss", etc. Yes, we can move forward, but we can never forget. When there is an aching in your soul and a hole in your heart, there is always a part of you that is fully aware that "my child is gone." Once child loss occurs, we are never complete again. Nothing or no one can fill the place our child had in our heart!

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Silent Grief, and all who have lost a child. or a loved one.  I pray that You will hold them as close to Your heart as You hold the child they love and lost.

Father, bless them today.

Daily Nugget

Saturday, November 30th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

The wise man, even when he holds his tongue, says more than the fool when he speaks (Yiddish Proverb).
The wise writer of Ecclesiastes tells us: “[There is] A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace” (3:7-8). For us to know the difference in each case is to display wisdom.

God, grant us the wisdom to know when to remain silent and … the ability to do so. Amen.

Worship Him in Spirit and Truth!

“The world does not pay for what a person knows; but it pays for what a person does with what he knows.” (Unknown)

Wisdom comes from having a lot to say and knowing when to say it and when to remain silent. May we use the knowledge God has blessed us with to touch others. Proverbs 3:12 reminds us, “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.”

God, help me to be the servant you want me to be and the friend my family and friends need. Amen.

“God manifests himself in his children; consequently the manifestation is seen by others, not by us.” Oswald Chambers (1874–1917)
You may be the only Bible someone ever reads. No matter how little it is, in God’s hands it can be much. Jesus in Mark 9:41 gives us these words, “For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.”

God, Thank You for living in us that we might show Your love to others. Amen.

1st Thanksgiving Proclamation

Issued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789

By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other trangressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

“I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see” (John Burroughs).

When we see someone who lives a life of boredom, we know they are not opening their eyes to all that is around them. Let us make the most of the seconds and minutes we have been blessed with.

Remember what the Psalmist said in Psalm 89:47 (NLT), “Remember how short my time is.”

God, help us to be good stewards of the time You trust us with. Amen.

“Cheer up—only a dentist has to look down in the mouth” (Unknown).

Every day each of us is confronted with choices. We may choose to make someone’s day, or we may choose to ruin someone’s day. That someone may be a friend, neighbor, relative, or even ourselves. We should choose today to be the bright spot in someone’s day, even if that light is just for us.  In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus reminds us: “Ye are the light of the world ” ( 5:14a).  Our goal should be to light up someone’s world, not just today but every day.

God, may I be an encouragement to someone today. Amen.

Professor Amos R. Wells (1863-1933) says: “Sometimes a mountain avalanche is so delicately poised that the vibration of a voice will bring it down.”

How many times has just a word or a small number of words brought down friendships or even relationships between countries? We must chose carefully the words we let rush past our teeth, for once they get that far, we may not be able to stop the impact they cause. Too, we must remember the words of the psalmist, whose prayer in Psalms 19:14 was “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord my strength and my redeemer.”

God, help my mouth to be controlled by a heart for You. Amen.

“And let us give thanks for ‘Someone’ to thank” (Gerhard E. Frost).

Praise God for all He is and all He has done for us. Let us give thanks and praise to God as the psalmist does in Psalm 57:9: “I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.”

God, thank You for loving us enough to desire a daily relationship with us. Amen.

ALL of our children

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Silent Grief speaks today about ... numbers ...

"How many children do you have?" often becomes a question parents of child loss find so difficult to answer. Why? We know how many children we have, but when we mention our "child who is in heaven" people get squeamish, act uncomfortable, and so many times we only mention our living children in order to avoid explaining child loss to others. Then, guilt sets in because we didn't mention ALL of our children. When will society become more aware of how important it is for parents to talk openly and freely about child loss?

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Silent Grief, and all who have lost a child. or a loved one.  I pray that You will hold them as close to Your heart as You hold the child they love and lost.

Father, bless them today.

"Man may dismiss compassion from his heart, but God will never" (William Cowper 1731–1800).

I have seen many folks ignore a call for compassion toward a need. No, I didn’t say they did not see the need, I said they ignored it. They were visibly moved by the need, but were able to "get over it."

Praise The Lord God doesn’t just get over it, but He has great compassion toward us. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 5:8, “But God commended his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

God, thank You for loving me beyond what I deserve. Amen.

“Every misery I miss is a new blessing” (Izaak Walton 1593–1683).

Have you ever thought about how many things God has moved for you to be able to have an even half-way decent day? It is sometimes interesting to wonder just what all God has done for us each day when we just thought we were lucky. The writer of Romans 8:28 tells us: “All things work together for good to them who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose.”

God, thank You for moving heaven and earth for our good. Amen

“Bread for myself is a material question; bread for my neighbor is a spiritual question” (Jacques Maritain 1882–1973).

Neglect of a need that comes in front of us may close the door to a spiritual opportunity. Let us be aware of the angels God places in our path, especially in this season. Remember what Jesus told us in Matthew 25:40: “I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

God, help me to keep, my eyes open that I might be Your hands here on earth. Amen. Bro. Bill

“Our generation is characterized by a craze for subjective experience. Our society has placed an inordinate emphasis on feeling good” (Erwin W. Lutzer, 1941–).

God has never promised we would always feel good or have fun or be without pain. He did tell us through the writer of Hebrews: “He will never leave thee nor forsake thee” (13:5). The presence of God is infinitely more valuable than any feelings we might have.

God, thank You for being ever with me in all things. Amen.

Daily Nugget

Monday, November 18th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

It is said that Dr. Theodore Cuyler and Mr. Spurgeon were once out in the fields enjoying God’s sunshine and the beauties of nature. Dr. Cuyler told a story, at which Mr. Spurgeon laughed until his sides shook. Suddenly, Mr. Spurgeon said, “Theodore, let’s get down on our knees and thank God for laughter.” Shortly afterward, these two happy Christian preachers knelt in the field and thanked God for His great gift of laughter.

Oh, to be able to see all the reasons to give God thanks each day for all the gifts I have been given. Join the writer of Psalms 107:1 as he reminds us: “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good and his mercy endureth forever.”

God, give me the wisdom to see all the opportunities to praise You today. Amen.
