Day 118

Yahweh

Preaching To Creation

"Pay attention, heavens, and I will speak; listen, earth, to the words of my mouth. 2 Let my teaching fall like rain and my word settle like dew, like gentle rain on new grass and showers on tender plants. 3 For I will proclaim the Lord's name. Declare the greatness of our God! 4 The Rock-His work is perfect; all His ways are entirely just. A faithful God, without prejudice, He is righteous and true."
Deuteronomy 32:1-5 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Moses here appeals to all creation to listen to the message of Yahweh The Rock.

Here is good news for creation... and we must learn to likewise preach to creation as well... all of creation... for Yahweh is Savior of all.

It is in The Name.

Tuesday, August 31st. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

A businessman once overtook a man trudging through the snow, humming to himself. He talked with the man and found that he was very poor. Finally, he asked him if he didn’t think he’d be happier if he were rich. “No, Sir," replied the man, "all the rich men I work for never laugh.”

All the wealth in the world is not worth it if we are not happy. The writer of Proverbs 15:13 tells us:
“A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance.”
Make someone’s day, give the one you meet a smile, a kind word, and a cup of cool water.

"God, thank You for the smile on my face and song in my heart.
Amen."

Certainly not equating the movement of the Republican Party with Spiritual Awakening... except to realize that it is an indicator that Americans are having a Spiritual Awakening in the area of individual freedom as opposed to governmental control over the individual.

Gallup Poll
GOP Takes Unprecedented 10-Point Lead on Generic Ballot

PRINCETON, NJ -- Republicans lead by 51% to 41% among registered voters in Gallup weekly tracking of 2010 congressional voting preferences. The 10-percentage-point lead is the GOP's largest so far this year and is its largest in Gallup's history of tracking the midterm generic ballot for Congress.

These results are based on aggregated data from registered voters surveyed Aug. 23-29 as part of Gallup Daily tracking. This marks the fifth week in a row in which Republicans have held an advantage over Democrats -- one that has ranged between 3 and 10 points.

The Republican leads of 6, 7, and 10 points this month are all higher than any previous midterm Republican advantage in Gallup's history of tracking the generic ballot, which dates to 1942....

Republicans Have 25-Point Lead on Enthusiasm

Republicans are now twice as likely as Democrats to be "very" enthusiastic about voting, and now hold -- by one point -- the largest such advantage of the year....
Individual freedom is our birthright.

We will explore this in days ahead.

Summer's Over in Europe already.

No Tricks Zone
Summer 2010 – Boy That Was Short! Snow Forecast For Alps Under 2000 Meters

By P Gosselin on 29. August 2010

Snow already!

A cold blast of polar air has moved over central Europe, pushíng temperatures far below normal. Snow is forecast in the Alps at elevations as low as 1400 meters.

The following chart shows the forecast for the next 2 weeks. It shows that summer is finished for much of Europe. In fact, as mentioned above, the lower Alps are expected to get snowfall in the couple of days ahead. Continue reading below.

Summer is already over for central and eastern Europe. Source: http://wxmaps.org/pix/temp4.html

According to Snowfinder, it’s time to get your skis out. Snow is in the forecast at many ski resorts. At Mürren Schilthorn in Switzerland elev. 2360 meters, snow is forecast for early this week. The same is true for Kitzbühel in Austria at 2000 meters elevation.

Heck, even below 2000 meters snow is in the forecast, for example Steinplatte Waidring in Austria , which is only 1800 meters elevation. Maybe Nature will publish a study attributing it to global warming.

===================================================

Update 1, August 30: Rain mixed with SNOW was reported on the Brocken summit, elevation 1141 meters, In north Germany this morning on north German NDR radio.

Update 2, August 30: Snow line has dropped to 1400m (below the 5000′ line) in the Alps. Heavy snow is in the forecast.

Prepare for winter.

Day 117

Yahweh

An Everlasting Rock

"Trust in the Lord forever, because in Yah, the Lord, is an everlasting rock!"
Isaiah 26:4 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

A Rock stands as a symbol in ancient cultures of stability and faithfulness... protection and deliverance.

Yahweh was and is our Rock of Salvation.

We will study this analogy for the next days.

Monday, August 30th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

When Dwight L. Moody was an ignorant, ragged, shoeless boy in the streets of Chicago, he found his way to a Sunday school by one of those unseen providences that men call "chance." He was shy and sensitive and very nervous lest the other boys would laugh at him because he could not find the places in the Bible. The teacher observed his embarrassment and, with gentle, silent tact, saved him from his shame by finding the places for him. But for that little nameless act of love and sympathy, a career of memorable beneficence might have been lost to the world.

This example is just another reminder that shows us we never know how far reaching even the simplest acts of kindness can go. The apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians wrote,
“Be ye kind one to another." (Ephesians 4:32)

"God, help me to be a blessing to someone today on Your behalf.
Amen."

Now.....

for our second hilarious news story for the day...

better hold your gut...

seriously.

Guardian UK
Fidel Castro claims Osama bin Laden is a US spy

Fidel Castro has more reason than most to believe conspiracy theories involving dark forces in Washington. After all, the CIA tried to blow his head off with an exploding cigar....

...Castro told a visiting Lithuanian writer, who is known as a font of intriguing conspiracy theories about plots for world domination, that Bin Laden was working for the White House.

"Bush never lacked for Bin Laden's support. He was a subordinate," Castro said, according to the Communist party daily, Granma. "Any time Bush would stir up fear and make a big speech, Bin Laden would appear, threatening people with a story about what he was going to do."....

Ol' Fidel must be dreaming of little black helicopters....

Seriously... a dyed in the wool communist, dictator... and murderous thug like Castro... claiming that Bush and Osama bin Laden... were part of the same movement to take control of the world?

Even the demons of hell are a little tickled at this one.

Just shows... if you want to propagate fear all your life... you are going to reap what you have sown all your life.

Sweet dreams Fidel.

Standing By Michael Mann

This is one of the absolutely funniest "news" stories that I have ever seen in my entire life...

The irony in this report is... gorgeous... esp. as it is written by Dr. Mann supporters and believers.

Read the Hook
Standing by Mann: Small but punchy protest blasts Cuccinelli’s ‘climategate’ inquest

As global temperatures rise, so does Charlottesville’s profile in a worldwide debate. Two events last Friday highlighted the anger and frustration felt on both sides as Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli continues his quest to peek at the early musings of Michael Mann, the former UVA climate professor and creator of the doomsday-invoking “hockey stick graph.”

“Ken Cuccinelli wants to take away the most precious things we can leave to the next generation: a healthy environment and a healthy and strong university. Don’t let the history books read, ‘When climate scientist Michael Mann was ignored, the planet burned up.’”

So said Ryan McElveen. The 2008 UVA graduate had been hoping that at least 50 people would appear for the protest he launched with some emails and flyers.... just two students and two professors rallied with him on the marble steps of the UVA Rotunda....

OK... Mr. Mann... you have 5 supporters.

Now... this is a major news story that is obviously in "support" of Michael Mann... and when you get to the nub of the story... there are only 5 supporters... including the dude that "organized" the rally in support of Mr. Mann...?

Hang on a moment... I'll be able to get off the floor pretty soon... I hope...

Forgiveness As A Non-negotiable Requirement

Guest blogger, Stan Nussbaum, takes us on a journey through the messianic year calendar.

Welcome to the journey of our Messiah through the year with Dr. Nussbaum.

“That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters in your heart." Mt. 18:35 (NLT)

I believe we evangelicals have drifted into serious abuse of the doctrine of forgiveness, which is strange because we have defended it so well for so long. In the 16th century it divided us from Catholics and in the early 20th century it divided us from liberals. The doctrine of forgiveness is not our problem today. Our problem is the unbiblical way we have split the doctrine of forgiveness from the practice of forgiveness.

It is very widely believed among evangelicals that our forgiveness is guaranteed if we believe the right things (Jesus is the Son of God, the Bible is true, etc.) and “accept” Jesus into our lives. If we taught that we had to do anything else to get or keep forgiveness, we think we would be teaching a doctrine of salvation by works and denying that forgiveness is a free gift through Christ.

It is also believed by many that forgiveness, once granted to us, is eternal and irreversible. If we taught that it might be canceled somehow, we think we would be insecure in our relationship with God and we would be insulting his character, implying that he is fickle or even that he might double-cross us. Unthinkable!

Matthew would be very surprised to hear us reasoning like this. Have we never read the parable of the unforgiving servant? (Mt. 18:23-35) Consider how this parable of Jesus avoids the traps we think we will fall into if we teach that Jesus requires forgiven people to forgive others.

In the parable the servant whose massive debt is forgiven by his master refuses to forgive another servant who owes him a pittance. The master is furious that the forgiveness of the huge debt had no effect on the servant’s heart so he cancels the forgiveness and throws him into debtors’ prison. The conclusion:
“That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters in your heart.”
(Mt. 18:35) We find the identical point once in the Lord’s Prayer and two more times right afterward. (Mt. 6:12, 14, 15)

This parable skips right over the three traps we are so worried about. First, would the forgiven servant have been able to boast about “earning” his own forgiveness if he had forgiven his fellow servant? How ridiculous! The master forgave him out of mercy before he had done anything.

Second, when he got his forgiveness, should the servant have been insecure, wondering whether the master might withdraw it? No. It was a gift, a done deal.

Third, was the master fickle? Did he double-cross the servant? Not at all. He assumed that his great mercy would engender mercy in the servant and he was shocked when it did not. Since the debt was simply between the two of them, the master was just as much within his rights to cancel the forgiveness as he had been to cancel the debt.

Through this parable our Messiah was teaching that forgiveness is not a right, even after it is granted. It is a gift of mercy. If such a staggering gift does not turn the forgiven ones into merciful people, it shows that they are refusing to enter the Messiah’s kingdom of transformation even though they are clutching the forgiveness they think will guarantee them a place in the Messiah’s kingdom of heaven. They are in for a let down. They repudiate their forgiveness by refusing to let it go to work inside them. It will be revoked, forfeited, just like the forgiveness of the servant in the parable.

Welcome: Jesus our Messiah, we welcome your gift of forgiveness, given at incredible cost to us when we deserved nothing at all. May the gift do its transforming work in us.

Affirmation: If I do not forgive people who sin against me, the Father does not forgive me for my sin no matter what creed I believe in. (see Mt. 6:14-15)

"Men are born with two eyes but only one tongue, in order that they should see twice as much as they say." (Charles Caleb Colton 1780–1832)

Some things said or written a century or so ago still have great application today. For instance, the writer of James 1:19-20 advises us with these forever timely words:
“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”
Too bad so many folks have it backwards, huh?

"God, shut my mouth and stop my pen at the appropriate times.

Spiritual Awakening Compelled on The Mall

Spiritual Awakening signs are appearing on every hand.

Daily Caller article
In front of historic crowd on the Mall, Beck makes plea for spiritual renewal and self-government

A crowd estimated to be around 300,000 gathered on the national Mall Saturday for a three-hour rally led by Fox News personality Glenn Beck, who held largely true to his promise to keep the event nonpolitical and instead conducted something of an old-style religious revival meeting that meandered between calls for moral renewal, racial unity, self-government, and support for the U.S. military....

The Beck rally was a mixture of religion, public relations and political philosophy. After predicting the beginning of another Great Awakening at a Kennedy Center event on Friday night, Beck strode back and forth across the massive but Spartan white stage set, keeping his rhetoric long on motivational generalities but short on specifics....

“If we want our country to survive, we must begin to look within ourselves,” Beck said. “To restore America we must restore ourselves.”...

... “America is great because America is good … America is only what we choose her to be, we as individuals must be good so America can be great,” he said. “We’ve grown tired. We’ve grown weak. We’re dividing ourselves. There is growing hatred in the country. We must be better than what we’ve allowed ourselves to become. We must get the poison of hatred out of us. No matter what anyone might say or do, no matter what anyone smears or lies or throws our way … we must look to God and look to love.”....

Over 1,000 buses and untold numbers of personal vehicles journey to the Washington Mall. Glen Beck leads a 3 hour awakening call to America.

Reported attendance of over 300,000 by the Washington authorities.

Good job America. Thanks Glen for stirring the pot.

God is moving... and He will not be stopped.

Coming Climate Disaster

Please... prepare for the coming winter.

Nature News report
Cold empties Bolivian rivers of fish... Antarctic cold snap kills millions of aquatic animals in the Amazon.

With high Andean peaks and a humid tropical forest, Bolivia is a country of ecological extremes. But during the Southern Hemisphere's recent winter, unusually low temperatures in part of the country's tropical region hit freshwater species hard, killing an estimated 6 million fish and thousands of alligators, turtles and river dolphins.

Scientists who have visited the affected rivers say the event is the biggest ecological disaster Bolivia has known, and, as an example of a sudden climatic change wreaking havoc on wildlife, it is unprecedented in recorded history....

The entire Southern Hemisphere is experiencing a devastating and brutal winter.

It is coming to the Northern Hemisphere in a couple of months.

Yahweh will not have man boasting that man can control the earth nor her climate.

Upon King David's deliverance he records for us:

Nick Vujicic to you

Saturday, August 28th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Mamie made frequent trips to the branch post office. One day she confronted a long line of people who were waiting for service from the postal clerks. Mamie only needed stamps, so a helpful observer asked, “Why don’t you use the stamp machine? You can get all the stamps you need and you won’t have to wait in line.” Mamie said, “I know, but the machine can’t ask me about my arthritis.”

Many of the modern conveniences save time and money, but move us farther and farther away from interaction with each other. The car that has made getting to church quicker and easier also takes us farther away more quickly. Let us remember to take time for each other. Remember the words form the writer of Galatians 6:2,
“Bear ye one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
"God, Thank You for our Christian family.
Amen."

The Chaplain's Corner

Guest blogger, Chaplain Paul, is one of the most effective chaplains in America today. He is an emergency responder to every situation.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

We have several bird feeders in our back yard and I enjoy watching the birds that come to eat. We have blue jays, cardinals, robins, sparrows and finches that take turns sitting on the feeders and eating. And then there are the doves that mostly stay on the ground and clean up what the others drop. For the most part, all of these birds get along pretty well.

In addition to the feeder that holds bird seeds we also have a Humming bird feeder, that's the one that has the most conflict around it. Those humming birds just love to fight. Sometimes I think they would rather fight than eat.

The feeder has six holes that these little feathered friends could use, and usually there are only two or three birds - plenty of room for each bird to feed. But instead of just picking a hole and filling up on the sweet nectar - they continuously fight. It's a wonder they don't all starve to death.

I guess we can excuse the humming birds, they don't know any better. But for Christians there is no excuse. God's word tells us over and over to love each other; to stop acting like a handful of foolish humming birds.

Now this is not a new problem; the early church had its share of humming bird Christians. The Apostle Paul accused the Corinthian church of,
"... quarrels, jealousy, flaring tempers, taking sides, angry words, vicious rumors, swelled heads, and general bedlam." (2 Cor. 12:20)
James told the Christians,
"Where do you think all these appalling wars and quarrels come from? Do you think they just happen? Think again. They come about because you want your own way, and fight for it deep inside yourselves. You lust for what you don't have and are willing to kill to get it. You want what isn't yours and will risk violence to get your hands on it." (James 4:1-2)
But God's word also gives us the solution,
"Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don't push your way to the front; don't sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand." (Phil. 2:3-4)
That sounds like the doves around my feeder. And I have noticed, the doves always seem well fed, contented and the least stressed of all the others.

As a Christian, which type of bird are you?

Coming To Your Hospital

Our friend, On The Mark, is on the mark with this report.

In Canada we see a picture of what is coming our way in America... we will have some bureaucratically selected "Consent and Capacity" board making our life choices for us... instead of we ourselves.

On The Mark
Canadian Death Panel in Action
Hospital withholds food, water from Christian pastor... Order requires seriously injured patient to ask for drink to live

He was revived successfully, although the apparent brain damage from the attack left him in a coma for a time. He was placed in intensive care where he regained consciousness. An eyewitness has reported he has regained movement in his arms and legs and that he recognizes the family he is living with.

According to Bernard Stephenson, another local pastor and friend who visits Mayandy daily, the injured man can speak some words.

But staff with Brampton Civic Hospital, which is part of the William Osler Health Center, disagree. According to Stephenson, doctors asserted all along that there was no hope of recovery.

The disagreement over his condition and capacity triggered in Ontario the involvement of the region's "Consent and Capacity" board, which by law determines the proper medical treatment for patients unable to make decisions themselves.
[...]
However, Alex Schadenberg, director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, says the board's decision simply is euthanasia by omission.

He also claims the hospital put pressure on Mayandy's friend, whose name has been redacted from the decision letter, to support its decision.

"Joshua, who is not otherwise dying, is being dehydrated to death. This is not the case when hydration and nutrition need to be withdrawn because he is actually dying and nearing death, but rather the decision appears to have been made to intentionally cause death by withdrawing IV hydration and nutrition because he is unlikely to recover from his disability," Schadenberg said.

He also believes Mayandy's friend and strategic decision-maker, chosen by the board, was pressured into supporting the hospital's position before he appeared before the Consent and Capacity board.

Schadenberg said, "It is deplorable that the Consent and Capacity Board in Ontario, the hospital and the lawyer for the hospital, who are all paid by the government and have nearly unlimited resources to pressure people to consent to their will, appeared to appoint a substitute decision maker to make decisions on behalf of Joshua, based on that person's willingness to a agree to a non-treatment plan, even though there is no proof that the plan of non-treatment represented the values of the person."

Seriously... can you imagine a government appointed board, enforcing a rule that they invent, that states that a critical patient must be able to ask for food and water... or they will be given none?

We are not talking about heroic efforts of life support equipment... we are simply talking about food... and water.

This is evil.

SPIN METER: What Biden didn't mention on stimulus

By GARANCE BURKE (AP)

FRESNO, Calif. — Vice President Joe Biden said this week that the Obama administration "hit the accelerator" toward spending $5 billion under the economic stimulus law to weatherize people's homes, create thousands of jobs, help consumers save money and put the nation on track for energy independence.

Yet the weatherization program the vice president highlighted in his visit Thursday to New Hampshire is widely considered among the least organized spending projects under the $814 billion economic stimulus law and has regularly been targeted for criticism of its slow progress by auditors and outsiders. Biden didn't hint much at its troubles.

Nearly 18 months since it started, the stimulus weatherization program has experienced spending delays, inefficiencies and mismanagement. In Biden's home state of Delaware, the entire program has been suspended since May, and last month federal auditors identified possible fraud.....

The very "liberal" POLITICO... is treating the coming November election as though it's already decided.

POLITICO
GOP plans wave of White House probes

If President Barack Obama needed any more incentive to go all out for Democrats this fall, here it is: Republicans are planning a wave of committee investigations targeting the White House and Democratic allies if they win back the majority.

Everything from the microscopic – the New Black Panther party – to the massive –- think bailouts – is on the GOP to-do list, according to a half-dozen Republican aides interviewed by POLITICO.....

... and they think it's already time to "expose" the conservative's coming agenda after the elections?

I'm sure this makes the republicans giggle with glee... and rightly so.

Perhaps POLITICO is actually trying to lull the conservative movement into an election day slumber... hoping to take some of the bite out of conservative's awakened passion for this election... hoping to induce many to stay home on election day thinking the election is a foregone conclusion.

Once again... I think the progressives have greatly underestimated what they have awakened in America.

Friday, August 27th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Someone asked a little boy, “How many brothers have you?” The child stated the number, adding, “and one in heaven.” “No, my son,” interposed his mother. “You have no brother in heaven.” “Yes, I have,” said the boy. “Didn’t you tell me that God was my Father, and that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Then He must be my Brother in heaven.”

With all the challenges in the world today I can be like the little fellow. I, too, am excited to have a Brother in heaven. The writer of 1 John 2:1 encourages us this way:
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”

The President of Afghanistan has stated what ought to be obvious to any thinking person.

Yahoo news via AP
Afghan leader criticizes US withdrawal timeline (AP)

KABUL, Afghanistan – President Hamid Karzai said that U.S. plans to start withdrawing troops from Afghanistan next year had boosted the Taliban's spirits, while an insurgent attack killed eight Afghan police in the country's increasingly volatile north Thursday.

Speaking to a visiting U.S. congressional delegation, President Hamid Karzai said the July withdrawal date had provided "morale value" to the insurgency, the presidential office said.....

There was a day when the military term "Unconditional Surrender" was a viable description for the ending of military operations.

It is a concept that should be resurrected... not only in our foreign policy discussions... but also in our military engagements.

We need to be done with the idea of simple retaliatory reactions... with the lame idea of "teaching terrorists a lesson"... and return to the time honored tradition of military exceptionalism.

Defeat the enemy that would strike us... until they publicly acknowledge that they have been and are defeated. Terrorists need to hear the unequivocal, "Lay down your arms."

“If a man could half his wishes he would double his Troubles.” —Benjamin Franklin

There is nothing wrong with seeking an easier life. In fact all inventions come from someone who ‘wishes’ something. In fact we read at night by electric light, watch television and talk on our telephones because someone wished he could do that. The problems come when wishing becomes miss directed to the extent of covetousness and discontentment. Let us learn from the words of the apostle Paul in Philippians 4:11,
“I have learned, in whatever state I am, therewith to be content.”

"God, let my aspirations to change what I can, not get in Your way of teaching me what I need to learn.

“When a dove begins to associate with crows, its feathers remain white but its heart grows black.” (German proverb)
When an ember is removed from a fire, it begins to cool and loses its glow. As children of God, when we associate more with the world than with God’s folks, we grow cold, lose our glow, and grow black of heart. That is why the writer of Hebrews 10:25 encourages us with these words:
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another: and so much the more as ye see the day approaching.”

Then tremble... to know that Yahweh still maintains the sieve of destruction.

While much attention has been focused on questions surrounding the Ground Zero mosque and the appropriateness of the State Department funding Ground Zero mosque imam Feisal Abdul Rauf’s trip to the Middle East, little attention has been given to the fact that U.S. taxpayer money is funding mosque development around the world.

Just a cursory search of the term “mosque” on the State Department’s list of “projects” reveals 26 examples of federal funds going to fund construction, renovation, and rehabilitation of various mosques abroad. The benefiting countries include Bulgaria, Pakistan, Mali, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Egypt, Tunisia, the Maldives, Yemen, Turkmenistan, Tanzania, Uganda, Azerbaijan, Sudan, Serbia and Montenegro.....

I can't help but wonder what the MSM would be saying if we were using American tax dollars to help restore... say... the Sistine Chapel in Rome? Or what the ACLU would be saying? Or what the progressives in our government would be saying?

Have you ever heard a sonic boom... or a Richter 10 earthquake... or a category 5 hurricane?

That would be close.

Tuesday, August 24th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“There is little difference in people…the little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.” (Clement Stone)

To find a friend who has a positive attitude all--or at least most--of the time is to find a rare treasure. If we walk with God, we will find that friend, as described by the apostle Paul in Philippians 4:13:
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

"God, thank You for making the difference in us day by day.
Amen."

“Don’t be afraid of opposition. Remember, a kite rises against, not with, the wind.” (Hamilton Mabie)

The writer of James 1:2 reminds us,
“Consider it a great joy, my brothers, whenever you experience various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.”
Praise God for trials that strengthen us.

"God, thank You for the challenges You put before us.
Amen."

Aug. 22 Forgiveness as step one

Guest blogger, Stan Nussbaum, takes us on a journey through the messianic year calendar.

Welcome to the journey of our Messiah through the year with Dr. Nussbaum.

Forgiveness as step one

“But the Son of God came to destroy these works of the Devil.” 1 Jn. 3:8 (NLT)

Last week we saw that Jesus is taking control of the world not by force but by forgiveness. He is the all-powerful King yet he presents himself to the world as the High Priest. Cynics will not respect Jesus’ strategy, but only because they fail to see that the Father’s plan is absolutely brilliant on this point, as it is everywhere else.

Imagine the balls on a pool table at the start of a game. The original sin of Adam and Eve was the cue ball that made the original break. The impact sent balls flying in all directions, each with some sin momentum. Now the balls (as if on some friction-less surface) continue to bounce off the cushions and collide with each other endlessly. In each collision some of the sin momentum of each ball is transferred to the other and some of the momentum of the other ball is absorbed, but the total amount of momentum does not change.

There are two ways to stop the chaos. One is to pick up the balls and put them into the pockets, which is the “kingly” approach of applying force. The other is to put very soft pads on the cushions, which is the “priestly” approach of absorbing force. The pads “forgive” the impact by changing their shape, and their ability to do so deadens the sin momentum of the balls. The vicious cycle of collision and ricochet is broken. The balls settle down and share the table.

The pads are a picture of forgiveness, step one of the Father’s two-step strategy for bringing sin under control. When forgiveness is granted to any of us because of the blood of Christ, it deadens the momentum of the sin that is already in the world, that is, it prevents sin from triggering more sin as a reaction and thus perpetuating itself.

To change the image, we could say that if a sinful action does not give birth to a sinful reaction, sin is sterilized. It is not reproducing. It is under control in the sense that a disease like cancer may be said to be “under control” if its growth is arrested. The patient’s condition is stable though cancer is still present. That type of control is step one of the Father’s plan, and forgiveness establishes control of sin to that extent.

Step two means finishing the job, eradicating the cancer that was previously brought “under control.” That is the kind of control the Messiah now exerts gradually in us through the Holy Spirit. He will impose it totally on the whole world when he comes again as the King and Judge. Those who will not have the sin cut out of them will themselves be cut off from the Messiah’s kingdom.

If we understand the two steps, it becomes clear why Jesus made forgiveness of others a non-negotiable demand on us, absolutely essential from the start. Forgiving other people is not just one more item in a long list of good things a Christian should try to do, such as love, pray, be truthful, etc. It is in a category all its own, the one thing we must do.

If we do not forgive others, we are rejecting step one of God’s two-step master plan. We are not getting with the Messiah’s program at all. “The Son of God came to destroy these works of the Devil,” (1 Jn. 3:8), but if we hold things against the people who wrong us, we are letting sin against us continue to breed new sin within us. The sin cycle is not broken. The imperative of forgiveness is so crucial that the whole reading next week will focus on it.

Welcome: Jesus, our High Priest, our sin-deadener, we love you so much. Come and cut the sin out of us so we will never be cut off from you.

Affirmation: The shock-absorbing capacity of Jesus’ sacrifice has deadened my inner impulsion to sin. I am forgiven. I can forgive. I do forgive.

Peter Marshall: "Lord, when we are wrong, make us willing to change. And when we are right, make us easy to live with."

The apostle Paul tells us ways he changed to touch the lives of others in 1 Corinthians 9:22 with these words,
“To the weak became I weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men that I might by all means save some."
He knew his flexibility made him of greater value here on earth as well as in the kingdom to come.

"God, let me be the clay in Your hand to be a worthy vessel.
Amen."

Day 111

Yahweh

His NAME Cometh #2

"Look, Yahweh comes from far away, His anger burning and heavy with smoke. His lips are full of fury, and His tongue is like a consuming fire. 28 His breath is like an overflowing torrent that rises to the neck. [He comes] to sift the nations in a sieve of destruction and to put a bridle on the jaws of the peoples to lead [them] astray."
Isaiah 30:27-28(Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The roar of the African lion can be heard up to 7 miles away.

The lion stalks it's prey... silent... intent... determined.

The first sign the stalked hears is that shattering roar as the lion suddenly roars into the death assault. Jaws wide... mane flared... eyes aflame... claws bared... the dance of doom has begun.

Many are oblivious and totally unconcerned that they are being stalked... by Yahweh.

Once they hear the roar... the assault has begun.

No repentance will be heard then.

Saturday, August 21st. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

A lady had a little gold cross, on the upright part of which the words, “God’s will,” were engraved. On the crossbar were the words, “My will.” At the touch of a spring, the cross disappeared and left only a straight beam bearing the words, “God’s will.” In like manner, when our will is lost in God’s and we are indeed dead unto sin, it is no longer a cross to follow Christ. We shall no longer complain that we do not get our own selfish way, because we shall not have any. On the other hand, when our will is contrary to God’s will, then we have a cross to bear.

Let us remember the beauty of Jesus’ prayer in the garden in Matthew 26:42:
“Thy will be done.”
The real beauty is we are the beneficiaries of Jesus’ obedience.

"God, let me find rest by following Thy will.
Amen."

The Chaplain's Corner

Guest blogger, Chaplain Paul, is one of the most effective chaplains in America today. He is an emergency responder to every situation.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

Recently I re-read the story of Moses leading the children of Israel out of Egypt. About three months after God miraculously brought them out of Egypt they came to Mt. Sinai. This was a special place; this is where God gave the first Ten Commandments and many other supernatural things happened.

But before God gave the Commandments He sent a message to the people. In part it said,
"You have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself." (Ex. 19:4)
As you study the Bible, learn to look for what is not said as well as what is said. Many times what is not said can be very important and insightful. Like in this verse notice that God did not say, 'I brought you to this special place.' He could have said that, Sinai was indeed a special place. But God said, "I brought you to myself." That's what God really wants; for us to come to Him!

Sure there are special places where we can meet with God. Every week we go to a building called the church (or we should), that's a good place to meet with God. We have a Church Camp called Pinecrest up in the mountains above Clarksville, AR. It's a great place to get away and meet God. And there are other times and places like retreats that can be special. But let's remember what God really wants is not just that we go to some place to think about Him, He wants us to be with Him.

From Genesis to Revelation we hear God saying, 'I love you.' 'I want you close to me.' 'I want to share intimacy with you.' THAT IS WHAT YOU AND I WERE CREATED FOR - TO BE IN A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD!

If that's not happening in your life - it probably explains the emptiness you feel. And, the closer you are to Him, the more completed and fulfilled you will feel. You might say, 'Chaplain, I'm not good enough to get close to God. I'm too sinful.' And I would say, 'you're right.

But Jesus is good enough, He is God's son. And He's the one inviting you into the family.' In Revelation 3:20 Jesus said,
"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in"
Have you ever heard Him knocking? Have you ever opened the door of your life to Jesus?

You could do that today!

Friday, August 20th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

A man had just had his annual physical exam and was waiting for the doctor’s initial report. After a few minutes, the doctor came in with his charts in his hand and said, “There’s no reason why you can’t live a completely normal life as long as you don’t try to enjoy it.”
That is contrary to the words of Jesus in John 10:10 when He says,
“I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.”
Or… does a relationship with Jesus make us abnormal after all, as the writer of 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we are
“a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

"God, thank You for making me different through a relationship with You.
Amen."

Even Barney Frank has enough horse sense to know that one needs to be careful about predicting the future.

The HILL article
Frank: Obama admin 'dumb' to predict no higher than 8% unemployment

It was "dumb" for President Obama and his aides to promise that unemployment would not surpass 8 percent if the stimulus act passed, a top House Democrat said Tuesday.

Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, called into question the wisdom of projections issued by the Obama administration during the congressional fight over the stimulus bill that argued it would prevent higher levels of joblessness.

"President Obama, whom I greatly admire ... when the economic recovery bill — we're supposed to call it the 'recovery bill,' not the 'stimulus' bill; that's what the focus groups tell us — he predicted or his aides predicted at the time that if it passed, unemployment would get under 8 percent," Frank said Tuesday evening during an appearance on the Fox Business Network. "That was a dumb thing to do.".....
The reality is that this administration made a lot of promises... then did the opposite after being elected according to the promises made.

By, by.

Barney knows.

Yesterday, in Spain, a bull actually manages to jump several yards up... into the arena of panicked spectators... and reek sweet havoc on the stunned crowd.

This is a video metaphor.

Yahoo AP news
Bull jumps 10 meters (yards) from the ring into the stands at the Tafalla bullring in Spain

MADRID – Forty people were injured when a bull leapt into the packed grandstands of a Spanish bullring and ran amok, charging and trampling on spectators, regional officials said Thursday.

Video shown on Spanish media outlets showed the bull jumping several meters (yards) high out of the ring, clearing two barriers before landing in the stands and raising a panic as he lurched through the screaming crowd, charging and tossing everything he could....

The metaphor explained...

The stunned and panicked crowd... think the celebrated halls of the United States Congress.

The raging bull... Americans come November.

Some of the greatest benefits to mankind have had their source in men who have experienced great affliction. The German poet Goethe said, “I never experienced affliction that did not turn into a poem.” The music that gives man a taste of heaven has often come from afflicted hearts.

John Piper wrote an article entitled, “Don’t Waste Your Cancer.” In that work, he encourages us to use all that God sends our way, not only for our benefit but also for the benefit of others. Our trials can encourage others. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 8:28:
“All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.”

"God, thank You for my challenges. Let me be a blessing to others.
Amen."

A new add that's just too funny to pass up... and the truth is pretty apparent.

Daily News story
Move over, Steven Slater: GOP ad shows Dems sliding off President Obama's Air Force One

Steven Slater is now a national political punch line.

A new Republican spoof video shows congressional Democrats running from President Obama by bailing out of Air Force One - using the emergency slide.

"I'm coming to your hometowns!" a cartoon Obama says, before the bright yellow chute pops open and Democrats start to flee.....

..... The Democratic National Committee had no immediate response.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs joked last week, "There's no truth to the rumor that I've added an inflatable exit to my office.".....

And to Christian conservatives I would say... stay on board and keep you seat belts on... we're taxing down the run way preparing for a grand take-off.

Charles H. Spurgeon once wisely observed, “If a man might have a cottage on a hundred years’ lease, he would prize it much more than the possession of a palace for a day.”

The blessings are that though the stay here on earth is temporary, we can spend forever with someone that loves us. John 3:16 tells us,
“For God so loved the world that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
Trust Him and live.

"God, thank You!
Amen."

Poor Al... he's watching the billions that he could have made off the global warming hoax going up in smoke...

The Hill article
Gore calls for major protests on climate change inaction

Former Vice President Gore is calling for major rallies to protest congressional inaction on climate change.

In a post on his personal blog headlined “The Movement We Need,” Gore linked to and quoted from an Australian wire service report that “tens of thousands of protesters … have taken to the streets across Australia to urge the major political parties to take action on climate change.”

“Across the world, when politicians fail to take action to solve the climate crisis, people are taking action,” Gore wrote.

He added after excerpting the news report: “It is my hope we see activism like this here in the United States.”

Gore noted he trained activists in Australia to deliver the slideshow that formed the basis for the documentary film that won him an Academy Award. A representative of Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection addressed the rally in Sydney.

Gore has in recent weeks stepped up his criticism of the Senate for its inability to pass a comprehensive energy and climate bill that would put a price on carbon. In a conference call with environmental activists last week, he reportedly said “the United States government in its entirety, largely because of the opposition in the United States Senate to taking action on clean energy and a solution to the climate crisis, has failed us.”....

He couldn't get the job done... try as he did... now he's calling for folks to rise up and demonstrate by the thousands... so he can make a buck.

I would wager that he's not going to be paying them to protest... so they won't protest.

Come to think of it... Al's going up in smoke.

Tuesday, August 17th. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

It was Napoleon Bonaparte who, early in his life, said, “God is on the side of the biggest artillery.” Years later, when he was exiled on an island, he reversed his opinion, and conceded, “Man proposes, but God disposes.” Napoleon learned the attitude of “If it is the Lord’s will” the hard way. May we learn it now.

Jesus taught us by example how to follow God’s will. First pray, then obey. Jesus’ prayer went like this in Matthew 26:42,
“My Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, thy will be done.”

"God, Let my will be in line with Yours.
Amen."

Our English word opportunity comes from the Latin and means “toward the port.” That definition suggests a ship taking advantage of the wind and tide to arrive safely in the harbor. The brevity of life is a strong argument for making the best use of the opportunities God gives us in our heading "toward the port" so that we can dock in the Lord's Shipyard...Heaven.
Remember these words from the writer of James 4:14:
“What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appearath for a little time, and then vanisheth away.”
"God, let me make the most of today.
Amen."
