Daily Nugget

“If God had wanted me otherwise, he would have created me otherwise” (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, 1749–1832).

Sometimes I wish I had this ability or that ability, and then I come to my senses when I remember these words of the writer of Psalms 139:14: “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” To be different might mean missing the one purpose for which God created me.

God, You are my creator; let me be submissive to Your will.  Amen.

Yahweh, Day 95

Day 95, Yahweh: Hungering to Feed

I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
Psalm 81:10 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The picture here is of the infant bird in the nest... and upon hearing it's parent bird arrive with a delightful morsel of sustenance... opens its mouth as wide as it can... crying out as loud as it can in desire for food.

This is the hunger Yahweh looks for... and He is hungry to feed such as this.

It's in His Name

Daily Nugget

Wednesday, October, 15th, 2014.  Today's cherished nugget from Guest Blogger, Pastor Bill.

A fellow bumped into his old friend whom he hadn’t seen in many years. He asked, “How’s your wife?”
His friend replied, “She’s in heaven.”
Without thinking, the fellow responded, “Oh, I’m sorry.” Then, realizing that was not the best phrase to use, he said, “I mean, I’m glad….  Well, what I really mean is, I’m surprised.”
Sometimes nothing we say can straighten out what we have said. When that happens, the best thing to say is to let our silence speak louder than our words.
The writer of Ecclesiastes 3:1-7 reminds us in this manner: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak.”
God, give me wisdom for use of my lips and help me to use it. Amen.

Yahweh, Day 94

Day 94, Yahweh: Leads Prisoners to Prosperity
“Sing to God! Sing praises to His name.
Exalt Him who rides on the clouds—
His name is Yahweh — and rejoice before Him.
A father of the fatherless
and a champion of widows
is God in His holy dwelling.
God provides homes for those who are deserted.
He leads out the prisoners to prosperity…”
Psalm 68:4-6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
Yahweh "leads out the prisoners to prosperity..."  These 'prisoners' are not criminal prisoners such as murders, rapists, extortioners, etc... rather... these are prisoners due to conscience sake. These are prisoners because of their 'faith' and biblical convictions.  While there is place for efforts to convert the immoral criminals in a society ... these are not those spoken of here.
Biblical 'prosperity' is descriptive of one who finishes what one has started ... therefore the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 52:13 - chapter 53, was said to have prospered exactly because He came to die for the sin of mankind ... He finished what He came to do.  It will be the same for those held prisoner due to moral conviction ... they will prosper in that which they have put their hands to.
Intercessory Prayer:  Oh Father!  May we bring glory to Your Name in our convictions and implementation of Your moral righteousness … for You are Holy.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.

“It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
This quotation, or one similar, has been attributed to Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, George Elliot, and even Confucius.  No matter who else made the following remark, we find it first in the Bible: “He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding” (Proverbs 17:27-28).

God, help me to choose my words carefully, and when possible, let Your word suffice.  Amen.
