“All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.” (Thomas Jefferson).
Today the trouble is too many good men and women do not want to go through the scrutiny the political processes bring. Nor do they want to  take their family through the pain and embarrassment rumors cause whether true or not. The writer of Proverbs 14:34 says, Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”

God, help inspire men and women to stand for righteousness. Protect our families from the wicked one who desires to rule and ruin our families.  Amen.

"A sharp tongue is the only edge tool that grows keener with constant use."  (Washington Irving 1783–1859)

Our tongues can bring peace and speak kindness as well as praise. However too many tongues cut, hurt, bring confusion and speak profanity and damnation. Let God guide our tongue that we might bring honor to Him. The writer of Psalms 34:13 gives us this advice, “Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.”

God, Help us to let You guide our thought that our tongues might follow appropriately.  Amen.

God will help us

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...
all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Kim speaks today about .. another bad comment

"God wont give us more than we can bear!! ( I think God will help us through anything and I don't think God killed my son! The devil did and God is going to use it for his good to bring others to him. 12 of my sons friends got saved the day of his funeral and he is continuing to lead others to him through Ashton's death."
Kim

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Kim, and all who have lost a child.  I pray that they will find Your comfort and support ... the support that only Your Holy Spirit can supply.

Father, bless them today.

An insurance agent received a phone call from an excited woman. “I want to insure my house,” she said. “Can I do it by phone?”
“I’m sorry,” answered the man, “but I’d have to see it first.”
“Then you’d better get here right away,” exclaimed the woman, “because the place is on fire!”

The truth is it was too late for insurance. Another truth is we can wait too long to trust God.  The apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 6:2 tells the Corinthians (and us): “Behold, now is the day of salvation.”

God, let us  share with and encourage others to come to know You as their Lord before their place is on fire. Amen.

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

Karen speaks today about .. more bad comments

"I was told I should take down all the photos of them because it is just a sad constant reminder of our loss."
Karen

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Karen, and all who have lost a child.  I pray that they will continue to treasure everything that reminds them and brings them comfort in their love for their child.

Father, bless them today.

If someone asks you how you feel and then listens to what you say, you know you are in a small town, or community, or state.

It is important for us to keep that community or family feeling with our friends.  The apostle Paul gives us this challenge in Galatians 6:2, “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

God, help us to share Your compassion with those we meet and see each day.  Amen.

"You've got to move on" ... "He's gone and that's that"
Sarah

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Sarah, and all who have lost a child.  I pray that when people make ridiculous statements like the above ... that Your grace will replace the hurt with Your comfort.
Father, bless them today.

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal.”  (Henry Ford)

We can’t get to the weekend without tackling the week.  We take each day as it comes, looking forward to the finished product. The apostle Paul in Philippians 3:14 says, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  I take on the Mondays, running toward the Sundays.

God, thank You for being with us wherever this week takes us.  Amen.

“Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.” (Ovid 43 b.c.–a.d. 17)

We hurry to have fun or to get things done at the expense of the rest God designed. God gave us this command in Exodus 20:8, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” God created the day of rest that our other six might be more productive.

God, Thank You for our rest. Let our thoughts today be focused on You.  Amen.

“After you’ve heard two eyewitness accounts of an auto accident, you begin to worry about history.” (unknown)

In the Bible, we are given four eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ walk on earth. Each account verifies a special relationship with Jesus and His disciples.  In John 20:28 Thomas makes this confession: “My Lord and my God.”   Then Jesus thinking about us says, “Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.”  Because of faithful witnesses, we, too, can make that same confession: "My Lord and My God."

God, thank You for witnesses testifying that we might know of You.  Amen.

“Don't tell me what you value, show me your budget, and I'll tell you what you value.” (Joe Biden)
Our vice president, whether he was aware of it or not, was basically restating the same thing Jesus said in Matthew 6:21 when using these words: “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
A look at the budget can be very sobering. God, help us as a nation as we fund programs that promote so many things contrary to Your word and Your will.
Father, forgive us for drifting so far from You. Raise up men and women who will stand for righteousness and lead our country back to the things that made America great.  Amen.

“Grace binds you with far stronger cords than the cords of duty or obligation can bind you. Grace is free, but when once you take it, you are bound forever to the Giver and bound to catch the spirit of the Giver. Like produces like. Grace makes you gracious, the Giver makes you give.” E. Stanley Jones (1884–1973)

If we were to pay a price for our salvation either financially or by service we would figure up exactly what the cost is and try to ‘settle up’ as cheaply as possible.  The apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:8 reminds us, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”  As a gift, we can praise God, the price has been paid and we are the recipients.

God, Thank You for Your extravagant gift to us. Amen.

Yahweh, Day 268

    Day 268

Yahweh: ...Put Your Hope

Yahweh  is the God of Hosts;
Yahweh is His name.
But you must return to your God.
Maintain love and justice,
and always put your hope in God.
Hosea 12:5-6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
Next we are told to put our hope in God.

The word for 'hope' here has an interesting root.  The idea or word picture is that of twisting or binding two things together.  In this case the One we are binding ourselves to is Yahweh Himself!  Now that should give us cause for both hope and assurance while facing life's ups and downs.
We usually use hope in the sense of wishing something would happen, but not so biblical hope ... for biblical hope is having a sure expectation that God will do as He has said He will do.  That is a little more certain than simple wishful thinking.

This is in the name.
