Daily Nugget

   Tuesday, April 30th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“Every person has a terminal illness called sin. The reason that followers of Jesus cling to him so tightly is because he is a great Physician who has the only cure. We could try to scrub away our sins with good deeds. Friends, it will not work. We can sincerely think that there are other ways of dealing with it, but we would be sincerely wrong” (Lee Strobel).

What we can not do for ourselves, God does for us through His Son Jesus. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 7:14, “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

God, thank You for the cure for sin through Your Son’s blood on the cross. Amen.

Dialy Nugget

     Monday, April 29th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

An unknown poet has described what it means to walk with God:
Begin the day with God, kneel down to Him in prayer;
Lift up your heart to His abode and seek His love to share.
Open the Book of God and read a portion there,
That it may hallow all your thoughts and sweeten all your care.
Go through the day with God, e’en though you may not see,
Where’er you are, at home, abroad, He still is near to thee.
Converse in mind with God, your spirit heavenward raise;
Acknowledge every good bestowed and offer grateful praise.
Conclude your day with God, your sins to Him confess;
Trust in the Lord’s atoning blood and plead His righteousness.
Lie down at night with God, who gives His servants sleep;
And when you tread the vale of death,
He’ll safely guard and keep.
May we all have that kind of fellowship with God.
Then we will know its blessed benefits.
—Author Unknown

The writer of Psalms 22:26 says, “The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.” What a blessing that God seeks us and draws us to Himself. As He does, we are the ones who are benefited because we walk with Him.
God, thank You for inviting us to spend time with You. Forgive us when we choose to walk with the world instead of You. Amen

Daily Nugget

   Sunday, April 28th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Grandpap had two dogs, Holly and Louie. One time when our son Matt, then three years old, visited his grandfather, he heard him shouting, “Holly! Louie!” Matt observed, “We sing that song in church” (Dan and Debbie Gibson, Christian Reader, “Kids of the Kingdom”).

Oh, that we were found with such child-like innocence in singing and praising God. The writer of Nehemiah 12:43 says, “That day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.”

God, help our praises to rise acceptable to You. Amen.

Daily Nugget

     Saturday, April 27th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Once my hands were always trying,
Trying hard to do my best.
Now my heart is sweetly trusting,
And my soul is all at rest.
Once my brain was always planning,
And my heart, with cares oppressed;
Now I trust the Lord to lead me,
And my life is all at rest.
Once my life was full of effort;
Now ‘tis full of joy and zest.
Since I took His yoke upon me,
Jesus gives to me His rest.
A.B. Simpson

What a blessing it is to know it isn’t up to us, but that God has our back. The apostle Paul in Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Our only boast is in God alone.

God, thank You for the rest we have in You when we turn our lives over to You. Amen.

“Today is mine. Tomorrow is none of my business. If I peer anxiously into the fog of the future, I will strain my spiritual eyes so that I will not see clearly what is required of me now” (Elisabeth Elliot).

Even though we must make certain plans in advance, I have enough trouble minding my business day by day. Over time, I have learned that taying centered on God’s will today puts us in the right place tomorrow, next week, and next  month. Joshua gave us and the children of Israel this challenge in Joshua 24:15, “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.”

God, give us daily the wisdom to choose You. Amen.

When he was in his mid-80’s, the great cellist Pablo Casals practiced his instrument for four or five hours each day. Someone once asked him why, at his age, he still worked so hard. “Because,” he said, “I have a notion that I am making some progress.”

The apostle Paul gives us these words in Philippians 3:12-14, “Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

God, instill in us the diligence to keep on as long as You give us breath. Amen.

the hole

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Silent Grief speaks today about ... inside ...

When child loss occurs, life for us is never again the same. Every holiday, every vacation, every special event in life has a feeling of being "incomplete" -- there's always something missing inside that we're acutely aware of, and that something is our child. On the outside we may look fine, but inside -- deep within our soul -- there is always, always that "knowing" that our child isn't there. We never "get over" the loss of a child. We just learn now to live with the hole left by the absence of our child.

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Silent Grief, and all who have lost a child. or a grandchild.  I pray that You will hold them as close to Your heart as You hold the child they love and lost.

Father, bless them today.

“The wonderful thing about God’s schoolroom … is that we get to grade our own papers. You see, He doesn’t test us so He can learn how well we’re doing. He tests us so we can discover how well we’re doing” (Charles Swindoll).

In these tests, I can relate to the writer of Isaiah 6:5 who says, “Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.”

God, cleanse us from all unrighteousness so we can have the fellowship with You that You want with us. Amen.

Happy Masks

 Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Silent Grief speaks today about ... masks ...

The question comes up so many times, "So, why do so many who are grieving the loss of a child wear their happy mask? The mask that makes people think they're doing okay." The answer is simple. Too many times when those grieving the loss of a child take off their mask, and bare their souls, they find themselves standing alone, and then the pain hurts ten thousand times more. The truth is -- sometimes it's just less exhausting and less painful to cry into our own pillow at night than to search and search for a shoulder that is willing to allow our tears to fall on. Rejection and grief are a terribly lonely, painful combination!

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Silent Grief, and all who have lost a child. or a grandchild.  I pray that You will hold them as close to Your heart as You hold the child they love and lost.

Father, bless them today.

“It is impossible for that man to despair who remembers that his Helper is omnipotent” (Jeremy Taylor).

The writer of Isaiah  6:1-3 records these words for us: “I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.  Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Each time I read this, I want to stand at attention with arms lifted high singing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty!”

God, You alone are worthy of all praise and glory. Amen.

There are no guidelines

 Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Silent Grief speaks today about ... guidelines ...

The grief from child loss is as individual as our DNA. No two people will grieve the loss of their child the same way. Some are open grievers -- telling others how they feel, and talking constantly about their child. Others are silent grievers -- holding in their pain because it hurts worse when they try to share it and others don't understand. And, then there are the "mask wearers" -- putting on the disguise of being okay when inside they are falling apart. There are no guidelines to follow for grieving the loss of a child. We do the best we can, and sometimes we simply fall apart and try all over again the next day. The pain from loss is just plain horrible. There's really no other way to explain it.

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Silent Grief, and all who have lost a child. or a grandchild.  I pray that You will hold them as close to Your heart as You hold the child they love and lost.

Father, bless them today.

Thy numerous works exalt Thee thus, And shall I silent be?  No, rather let me cease to breathe, Than cease from praising Thee! (Elizabeth Rowe)

The sunrise shouts, “Wake up!”  The wind calls out for us to look at the trees. The water sings its song as it rushes over rocks on its way to the ocean. As the sun sets and the moon rises and stars twinkle, God whispers, “Good night; I love you.” In Genesis 1:16-18, the writer tells us, “God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.  And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,  And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.”

How can we keep from praising God? I don’t want to try.

God, thank You for the myriad of ways each day You tell us, "I love you."  Amen.

Alexander Whyte, the Scottish preacher, always began his prayers with an expression of gratitude. One cold, miserable day his people wondered what he would say. He prayed, “We thank Thee, O Lord that it is not always like this.”

One thing about the weather around here is that it is always subject to change, even on a daily basis. This week we had 89 degree temperatures and then mid-thirties. Someone was pleased on each of those days. I choose to rejoice with each of those who enjoyed each day.  The apostle Paul gives us these words in Romans 12:15, “Rejoice with those who rejoice.”

God, help us to give You thanks in all things. Amen.

CO2 cools the atmosphere

 NASA is revealing some shocking information, CO2 actually acts to cool the earth's atmosphere not heat it up!  The global warming house of cards continues to come crashing to the ground.

 A recent NASA report  throws the space agency into conflict with its climatologists after new NASA measurements prove that carbon dioxide acts as a coolant in Earth's atmosphere.

NASA's Langley Research Center has collated data proving that “greenhouse gases” actually block up to 95 percent of harmful solar rays from reaching our planet, thus reducing the heating impact of the sun. The data was collected by Sounding of the Atmosphere using Broadband Emission Radiometry, (or SABER). SABER monitors infrared emissions from Earth’s upper atmosphere, in particular from carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO), two substances thought to be playing a key role in the energy balance of air above our planet’s surface.

“If, instead of a gem or even a flower, we could cast the gift of a lovely thought into the heart of a friend, that would be giving as angels give” (George Macdonald 1824–1905).

There is little that is as valuable to each of us as the memories we have from our experiences with our friends.  The writer of Proverbs 27:9 tells us this: “Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.”

God, thank You for our friends and the bond of our hearts drawn together by a relationship with You. Amen.

Emotional Roller Coaster

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...

.all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.
Silent Grief  speaks today about ... predictability....
 The emotional roller coaster associated with child loss is so unpredictable. We never know what triggers any given day will bring and how we will react. We can cry over a butterfly, an advertisement on TV, or walking inside Walmart. Reminders of our child can pop up anywhere, and we never are fully prepared for the onslaught of emotions that come bursting from our heart. We hold so much inside trying to be so "in control" and then suddenly the flood gates open and the tears flow like a river. The emotional roller coaster ride of child loss is such an exhausting ride of the unknown!
 Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Silent Grief, and all who have lost a child. or a grandchild.  I pray that You will hold them as close to Your heart as You hold the child they love and lost.

Real-life hero “Stormin’ Norman” Schwarzkopf, the four-star general who led the allied forces of Desert Storm to their Gulf War victory over Iraq, was interviewed by Barbara Walters. As this tough military man talked about the war, there were tears in his eyes. His interviewer noticed, too, and in her classic style, Barbara Walters asked, “Why, General, aren’t you afraid to cry?” General Schwarzkopf replied without hesitation, “No, Barbara. I’m afraid of a man who won’t cry!” This truly great man knew that being tough doesn’t mean being insensitive or unfeeling or afraid to cry. No wonder soldiers gave their best when they served under his command. They knew the general cared about them; they could trust the man giving their orders. We need leaders whose hearts can be touched by our situations and who touch our hearts as well.

In 2 Corinthians 2:4, the apostle Paul shares his heart with these words: “For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.”

God, help us to have the compassion You have for those around us. Amen.

“Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few engage in it.” (Henry Ford)

The apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 10:5 gives us this advice, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”

God, Bring our thoughts in tune with Your thoughts that we might bring honor to You. Amen.
