Some comfort

Losing a child to death brings a myriad of emotions ...
all complicated ... all different ... all difficult.

Teresa speaks today about ..  a pastor's counsel.

"The first thing my pastor said to me was "Just know this did not take God by surprise " when I question (all of my 1,000's) I find that what he said does bring some comfort (if there is such a thing)..."
Teresa

Father, Yahweh, I pray today for Teresa, and all who have lost a child.  I pray that time will become a friend to the grieving ones.

Father, bless them today.

Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill

“All is not gold that glitters.” (David Garrick 1717–1779)

This week, millions of people are likely at least two dollars poorer. They woke up this morning still looking at their multimillion dollar piece of paper that only cost two dollars, a paper that is now worthless. It is worth even less than fool’s gold because that "gold" at least has value as a rock to tourists. In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus give us this advice: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is there will your heart be also."

God , forgive us when we cheapen ourselves with the trappings of this world.  Amen.

“Authority is God-ordained, but authoritarianism and raw power, in almost all forms, is dangerous.” (James C.Dobson )

Understanding that all authority is given by God, it becomes of the utmost importance to remember to pray for those in control. We find these words in 2 Timothy 2:1-2: “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

God, bring our leaders to a knowledge of and state of obedience to You .  Amen.

“The true worth of a man is to be measured by the objects he pursues.” (Marcus Aurelius Antoninus 121–180)

Some men raise cattle, some dogs, some chickens, some gerbils, some hogs, and hundreds of other things. Could those pursuits communicate our value? Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” In other words, seek that which is the best.

God, thank You for seeking us when we were lost.  Amen.

Heart breaking

Here is some very heart breaking news coming from the CDC.

CDC: US AIDS epidemic fresh in risk-taking youth

AIDS is alive and well in a new generation of teenagers and young adults, most of them young men, who are having risky sex, often fueled by drugs or alcohol, U.S. officials said Tuesday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a new report showing that more than a quarter of new U.S. infections are in youths aged 13 to 24, and 60 percent of them don’t even know it. That means they can spread the virus and, worse, aren’t getting treated for it.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS cannot be cured, and it will kill people who are not treated for it. But a cocktail of drugs can keep patients healthy and if they take their medication consistently, they are far less likely to infect someone else.

The CDC estimates that 12,200 young men and women aged 13 to 24 became infected with HIV in 2010. And by far most of them were boys and men. Nearly three-quarters were boys and men having sex with other men. And more than half of the newly infected youths were African American.

The report “really provides shocking data on the higher rate of risky behavior and the lower rate of condom use” among young men, CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden told reporters on a conference call.....

God, have mercy.

“A person who is to be happy must actively enjoy his blessings.” (Cicero 106–43 b.c.)

Recognizing our blessings is the first step in being able to give thanks. The greatest blessing is the forgiveness of sin we receive through the blood of Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul in Romans 4:8 says, “How happy the man whom the Lord will never charge with sin!”

God, I am very happy resting in You and Your love for me.  Amen.

“Man cannot live all to this world. If not religious, he will be superstitious. If he worships not the true God, he will have his idols.”  (Theodore Parker 1810–1860)

When we have a true relationship with The True God, we have no need for idols. With our relationship with God, even religion falls by the wayside. Jesus reminds us in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

God, Thank You for desiring us and leading us into a relationship with you. Amen.

According to research conducted by the National Geographic Society, the 40-ton creation of God—the humpback whale—has a fascinating singing ability. Recordings have been made of the humpback whale singing in various pitches in solos, duets, trios, and choruses of dozens of interweaving voices lasting from six to thirty minutes.

What an experience it is to hear, over one’s own stereo system, songs from the ocean depths—sung by 40-ton whales!  The writer of Psalm 148:7 gives us this interesting picture, “Praise Him down here on earth you creatures of the ocean depths.”

God, Thank You for the wisdom and beauty we find in all of Your creation. Amen.

Spying of students in San Antoino, Texas

You have to go read the entire article about this amazing move to force over 4,000 students in San Antoino to wear "locator chips" that would enable the district to track the students every move in real time.  This is the stuff of science fiction a few years ago, and the ranting of crazy preachers according to most.  Well, here it is.

spy chip report

A court has stepped into a school dispute in San Antonio, Texas, ordering that a district cannot expel a student over her refusal to wear a badge signifying participation in the district’s computer-chip based “Student Locator Project.”

The Rutherford Institute, which is working on the case of student Andrea Hernandez of John Jay High School’s Science and Engineering Academy, said the badges for the program include Radio Frequency Identification chips that send signals enabling school officials to track students’ locations continuously on campus......

Uganda's National Repentance

Following is an amazing report about Uganda's President praying repentance for their past 50 years, and confessing the God of the Christian Bible as the God of Uganda.  Amazing event.  We will watch closely!

Uganda's President prays national repentance

“I stand here today to close the evil past, and especially in the last 50 years of our national leadership history and at the threshold of a new dispensation in the life of this nation. I stand here on my own behalf and on behalf of my predecessors to repent. We ask for your forgiveness,” Museveni prayed.

“We confess these sins, which have greatly hampered our national cohesion and delayed our political, social and economic transformation. We confess sins of idolatry and witchcraft which are rampant in our land. We confess sins of shedding innocent blood, sins of political hypocrisy, dishonesty, intrigue and betrayal,” Museveni said.

“Forgive us of sins of pride, tribalism and sectarianism; sins of laziness, indifference and irresponsibility; sins of corruption and bribery that have eroded our national resources; sins of sexual immorality, drunkenness and debauchery; sins of unforgiveness, bitterness, hatred and revenge; sins of injustice, oppression and exploitation; sins of rebellion, insubordination, strife and conflict,” Museveni prayed.

Next, the president dedicated Uganda to God.

“We want to dedicate this nation to you so that you will be our God and guide. We want Uganda to be known as a nation that fears God and as a nation whose foundations are firmly rooted in righteousness and justice to fulfill what the Bible says in Psalm 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. A people you have chosen as your own,”

“Let God put you on his wheel and whirl you as he likes. . . . Don’t lose heart in the process. “ (Oswald Chambers 1874–1917)

We may never have looked at it quite that way, but sometimes that is what it seems like. We are in a whirl wind that should teach us to go with the flow. We, the clay have no ability to change it, so let God (the potter) have complete control.  The writer of Isaiah 29:13-16 gives us these words of The Lord, “The Lord said: Because these people  approach Me with their mouths to honor Me with lip-service— yet their hearts are far from Me, and their worship consists of man-made rules learned by rote — therefore I will again confound these people with wonder after wonder. The wisdom of their wise men will vanish, and the understanding of the perceptive will be hidden. Woe to those who go to great lengths to hide their plans from the LORD. They do  their works in darkness, and say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?  You have turned things around, as if the potter were the same as the clay. How can what is made say about its maker, “He didn’t make me”? “How can what is formed say about the one who formed it, “He doesn’t understand what he’s doing”?

God, Forgive us when we think we know more than You. Amen.

“Count your many blessings name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord hath done!”  (Johnson Oatman Jr.)

This month I have had several friends posting a word of Thanksgiving each day.  I thought to myself, ‘What if we were to continue daily throughout the year whether posted or not but just counting the things we are thankful for.’ This would be a way of living out what the apostle Paul encourages us to do with these words in 1Thessalonians 5:16-18 , “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

God, Let our words of thanks to You and others flow daily. Amen.

Yahweh, Day 296

  Day 296
Yahweh: Our Peace #2

Micah 5:4-5 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
“He will stand and shepherd them in the strength of Yahweh,
in the majestic name of Yahweh His God.
They will live securely, for then His greatness will extend
to the ends of the earth. He will be their peace…”

We walk today on holy ground.

“He will be their peace.”  We saw yesterday that this word for peace, shalom, means to complete and to fulfill.  We saw that God’s shalom is often accomplished in the most difficult of circumstances.  My dear pilgrim, we see today the moment that true shalom was attained, and this on Calvary.  We see this in John 19:30.

“When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" Then bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” (HCSB)

Actually, Jesus cried out one word that we have translated “It is finished!”  The word that He shouted out that echoed through time and eternity was, shalom!  Shalom, the word of our salvation.  It is accomplished, it is completed, it is fulfilled.  And in the sacrifice of our Messiah, we see and find, shalom.  This, the world cannot give.

This, is in The Name.
