Daily Nugget

Sunday, March 31st, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“It is the lily, above all other flowers, that we associate with Easter. One particular lily, the lotus lily, seems to have a built-in immortality. Seeds from this lily that have lain dormant for a thousand years have been known to germinate and grow” (unknown).

The beauty of the lotus lily pales in comparison to the Lily of the Valley, the bright and morning star, Jesus Christ the risen Savior! The writer of Mark 16:6 says, “Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.”

God, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to save us. Amen.

Daily Nugget

Saturday, March 30th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“It is not what he has, nor even what he does which directly expresses the worth of a man, but what he is” (Henri F. Amiel).

Our character goes beyond the scope of our words and even our immediate actions. Our character is seen in the consistency of our daily lives.

The writer of 2 Peter 1:5-8 tells us, “Add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

God, if the world sees anything of value in us, may we be quick to know it is only because You are working in our lives. Amen.

That is absolutely horrible! I'm so sorry and wish you the best with your grandchildren.
Pam

Daily Nugget

Friday, March 29th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Someone has said that the difference between a mere optimist and a Christian optimist is that the former lives by the principle that life is good and the latter by the principle that God is good.

God is good, much greater than I/we deserve.  The writer of Psalms 34:8 says,  “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”

God, thank You for loving us and being here when we need You. Amen.

Daily Nugget

“Every man I meet is my superior in some way. In that, I learn from him” (Ralph Waldo Emerson).

If we try, we can gain wisdom from each person we meet, and if we gain that wisdom, we will be better for it.

Paul gives this advice to the Philippians (and to us) in Philippians 2:3 he says, “Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.”

God, let me find in others the value You see in them. Amen.

Daily Nugget

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“When a storm comes at sea, a ship turns to face the tempest. If the vessel allows the storm to hit its side, it will capsize. If it turns its back to the storm, the storm will drive it wherever the wind blows. Only in facing the storm is the ship safe” (Robert C. Shannon, 1000 Windows).

In 2 Corinthians 4:8-9, the apostle  Paul says, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” We can face the storms of life knowing God is with us.

God, thank You for being here through our trials.  Amen

"Being straight isn’t a guarantee of having a healthy, shiny, pre-integrated sexuality"

A good read from Brutally Honest.

I’m so used to being gay and Catholic, I forget how strange that sounds.
I forget that, for some people, “homosexual” describes something like a different race, or maybe even SteveGershoma different gender. I forget that some Christians think I’m the worst kind of pervert (but a pervert they have to treat nicely), and some secularists think I’m the worst kind of hypocrite; the former because I’m sexually attracted to men, and the latter because I don’t do anything about it.
Read the last part again. Yes, I’m attracted to men; no, I don’t sleep with them, for the same reason that a lot of Catholics don’t sleep with people they’re not married to. But you’d be surprised how often people hear the first part (gay) and not the second (celibate) — even though the second is the only part that’s up to me.

Follow the top link for the whole post.  Very worthwhile!

“Attitudes are capable of making the same experience either pleasant or painful”  (John Powell).

It is strange that two individuals handle the same circumstance so differently...until you look in their eyes and discover the attitude of the heart.

The writer of Luke 6:45 says, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”

God, let our conversation and actions reflect our relationship with You.  Amen

Daily Nugget

Monday, March 25th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

In medieval times there was thought to be a fearful creature dwelling in caves and crevices called a “basilisk.” It could kill people with just one look. Of course, we no longer believe such things, and so our expression is “if looks could kill.” Looks cannot kill, but they can often wound. Looks can also heal, encourage, and comfort.

2 Peter 1:5-7 tells us, “Add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.” This week is known as Passion Week among Christians. We celebrate CHRIST’s love for us as He went to the cross for our sins and rose again for us to be able to celebrate the resurrection this Sunday. Find someone to give a smile, a look of comfort and a look of encouragement to today.

God, Thank You for giving us something to smile about.  Amen

Daily Nugget

Sunday, March 24th, 2013.  Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“Some people look at the bee, see the stinger, and miss the honey. Others look at a rose, see the thorns, and miss the beauty and fragrance. The real test is to look past the challenges all the way to the victory” (me).

Jesus looked beyond the beatings, the splinters, the nails, the thorns on His crown, all the other cruelties of the cross, and saw the victory of salvation for you and me.

The apostle Paul in Philippians 2:7-11 tells us: “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

God, let us not only see You and Your beauty high and lifted up, but also to share that love You gave us. Amen

Honestly, most comments made were the clueless doing the best they could. I usually grit my teeth and let it go.
