Thursday, September 30th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“A half-truth is a dangerous thing, especially if you have got hold of the wrong half.” Myron F. Boyd

There is a segment of society that believes it doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you are sincere. The trouble and truth is you can be sincerely wrong. Jesus in John 14:6 said,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

"God, Thank You for sending Your son with The directions.
Amen."

A couple of days ago xtnyoda sent us to the Borg Conspiracy to read his opinion on the President taking on FOX NEWS and saying that FOX NEWS was destructive for America.... now.... the White House takes one step further and even pricks the sensibilities of CNN by stating that MSNBC is good for Americans.

Sooner or later the press is going to defend itself against political attack... and we are seeing it begin in America with the above video.

OH Mr. President... are you listening? You are about to lose the MSM... Mr. President... are you listening? Your threats and intimidation are about to come back at you... sir.

America is not Chicago. We don't quiver when you speak.

Day 139

Yahweh

Human Incapacity

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The Prophet goes on to describe the vastness of our God that defies human comprehension....
"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand or marked off the heavens with the span [of his hand]? Who has gathered the dust of the earth in a measure or weighed the mountains in a balance and the hills in scales?"
Isaiah 40:12 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

These are of course mental images shared for the purpose of making a man come to the reality that he is just a... man.

This is in The Name.

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

"Once a Christian Leper in India was heard to pray: “I thank God that He laid leprosy on me because of the lepers I have been able to lead to Christ.” He saw his leprosy as part of God’s saving plan. He believed that  for the souls of the lepers to be washed white in the tide of the Savior’s blood, God had permitted him to become a leper."

Each of us is given some sort of affliction in our lives. Some suffering occurs at birth, and other pain may come later in life. Through our weakness, God is made strong.  The apostle Paul puts it this way in 2Corinthians 12:10:
“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

"God, thank You for the afflictions you give us to show Yourself strong in our lives.
Amen."

Day 138

Yahweh

Our Shepherd

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

One of the most tender and protective of all occupations is that of the Shepherd.
"He protects His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries [them] in the fold of His [garment]. He gently leads those that are nursing." Isaiah 40:10 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

As YahShua (Jesus) said, the Good Shepherd would lay down His life for His sheep. Take a moment to marvel at this truth... our Heavenly Shepherd did lay down His life.

The Good Shepherd also nurtures and cares for His sheep. The Good Shepherd also will defend His sheep.

Our Good Shepherd loves His sheep.

This is in The Name.

Obama: Fox News is 'destructive' to America

President Obama is pulling no punches when it comes to Fox News, declaring the cable news outlet to be "destructive to [America's] long-term growth."....

This is pretty amazing... that a sitting president of the United States would directly assault one of our free press media outlets.

You would do well to go over to The Borg Conspiracy and read his whole commentary on this event.

The progressives are getting very desperate... and this kind of rhetoric is going to hurt them even more. Fuss as we might... don't mess with our free press... esp. if you are an elected official of the American People.

Tuesday, September 28th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

Sir Isaac Newton states that he did not consider he had any advantage over other men, except whenever he thought of sufficient importance to begin, he had sufficient resolution to continue until he had accomplished his object.

To start is neither a problem nor is it an accomplishment. The true test is to finish as well or better than we begin. The apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7 tells us,
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
Just as many teams find out the game is not over until the end of the fourth quarter, God still uses many of His servants well into their later years.

"God, thank You for the fortitude to continue as long as You let us.
Amen."

Chris Matthews of "Hard Ball" fame is... losing his mind to the cesspool of political paranoia.

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: You know, a great question, Charles, that wasn't on my list to ask but I'm going to ask you because you seem like a sophisticated guy of many parts. You think business can sit on those billions and trillions of dollars for two more years after they screw Obama this time? Are they going to keep sitting on their money so they don't invest and help the economy for two long years to get Mr. Excitement Mitt Romney elected president? Will they do that to the country?

To say that American businesses are sitting on Trillions of dollars just to bring down a president... all the while those same businesses are suffering and struggling financially... is... pitiful.

This is one of the most absurd statements ever made by a political pundit of any stripe... right up there with Iran's maniac Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his insane rantings.

xtnyoda, on July 28th, reported on our new Education Secretaries desire to have our children in school for around 12 months a year...

Now the President... less than 2 months later... starts to move in lock step with what the Secretary wants.

Yahoo news report
Obama presses for longer school years

WASHINGTON – Barely into the new school year, President Barack Obama issued a tough-love message to students and teachers on Monday: Their year in the classroom should be longer, and poorly performing teachers should get out....

... U.S. schools through high school offer an average of 180 instruction days per year, according to the Education Commission of the States, compared to an average of 197 days for lower grades and 196 days for upper grades in countries with the best student achievement levels... "That month makes a difference," the president said.....

It does make a difference who gets appointed to these offices. And rest assured that each and every one is appointed for a reason.

This administration wants our children in the government classrooms... out of their homes... so the government can... teach... them.

Consider and ponder.

Day 137

Yahweh

Rewards and Gifts

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Yahweh has come to us in Christ... and He has brought His rewards and gifts with Him.
"See, the Lord God comes with strength, and His power establishes His rule. His reward is with Him, and His gifts accompany Him." Isaiah 40:10 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

If you could name the one thing you desire the greatest in this life... what would it be?

As Yahweh spoke to Abram in Genesis 15, I think He gives to the thinking person the correct answer as He told Abram that God would Himself be Abram's reward... Abram's gift.

Would we leave all behind... to live in tents... for the reward of Yahweh's presence? We really should consider this carefully.

This is in The Name.

Good Ol' Harry... been caught trying to sneak funding for abortions in military hospitals in his failed "Defense Authorization" bill.

You probably heard about the illegal alien and the homosexual parts in the news... but... I would dare say that you haven't heard about this part in the MSM.

CWNews report
Abortion on Military Bases – “An Abomination”

A National defense analyst describes Democrat's recent attempt to allow abortion on military bases in the United States and abroad “an abomination.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tried to pass the Defense Authorization bill but failed. The bill contained three highly controversial amendments: a DREAM Act for illegal aliens, a repeal of the ban on homosexuals serving in the military, and a statute that would permit abortion on U.S. bases.

Lieutenant Colonel Bob Maginnis finds the idea of turning military hospitals into abortion mills reprehensible.

“I've been working that issue for most of the last 20 years, and I have yet to find a medical physician in the armed forces who favored this particular decision....”
Senator Reid and all his cronies are simply cowardly hypocrites... wolves in sheep's clothing. They can't just stand up and be who they actually are... say what they actually believe... or they would be run out of congress on a rail.

They are forced to try and "sneak" their agendas through and over the American people.

Must be difficult... you know... living a lie.

Mr. Reid... you are your own judgment on yourself... for you have to live with yourself.

Day 136

Yahweh

Herald of Good News

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

And just exactly what is our Good News?...
"Zion, herald of good news, go up on a high mountain. Jerusalem, herald of good news, raise your voice loudly. Raise it, do not be afraid! Say to the cities of Judah, "Here is your God!" Isaiah 40:9 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

"Go up on a high mountain..."

Here there is no shame... there is no fear... there is no hesitation. With bold compassion we cry out to a desperate humanity... here is Yahweh... creator of all there is... and... He is our God.

If you only would... He will be your God. Yahweh has given you breath... has given you life... and would give you vibrant, spiritual life as well.

This is our cry.

Sept: 26th-Shelter but not as we know it

Guest blogger, Stan Nussbaum, takes us on a journey through the messianic year calendar.

Welcome to the journey of our Messiah through the year with Dr. Hussbaum.

“You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last . . .” Jn. 16:15 (NLT)

Next to forgiveness, shelter is probably the seasonal theme in the Messianic Year that is most commonly talked about. When cancer strikes, when layoffs come, when death takes those we love, we turn for shelter to Jesus as the Good Shepherd and the Holy Spirit as the Comforter, and well we should. We also encourage others in difficulty to choose Jesus as their best option for dealing with whatever life has thrown at them. Sound familiar? Sound right?

Perhaps, but we have to reconcile this emphasis on shelter-seeking (Mt. 11:28) with Jn. 16:15, “You didn’t choose me. I chose you.” It is oh so easy to get those two choices turned around. If we choose Jesus as “Mr. Shelter,” the one who can best shelter us from hardship in the present and hell in the future, our focus will be on why we chose him (to provide shelter for us) instead of why he chose us (to go on his mission with him).

Isn’t that what we see all too often in our churches today, people who have a very strong sense of their need for shelter and a very weak sense of their mission? It’s as if our shelter is the main reason for a relationship with Jesus while our mission is an add-on that we may eventually get around to. Shelter is for baby Christians. Mission is for the mature.

This is a colossal mix-up. The Messiah says in this same verse, “I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce fruit that will last . . .” This means mission is for everybody he chose, and it starts on day one. Jesus’ choice of us, like everything else he did or said, revolved around his messianic mission of bringing all the blessings of the Messianic Year into the world. When he moves into our lives, he therefore does not sit down within us to make us as cozy as he can. He calls us to get up and join him in a fruit-bearing mission.

As soon as we do, we start drawing flak. We need shelter that we didn’t need before, and this is the kind of “shelter” we are talking about during the Season of Shelter. It is shelter from the difficulties of the messianic pilgrimage, following the Messiah through life to Life. It is the same kind of shelter the Israelites needed only because they too were on the move as God led.

The Season of Shelter is about “shouldering our cross.” (Mt. 16:24, NLT) Like our Messiah we are not sheltered from the cross but during the cross, that is, while we are shouldering it. More than any other trait but love, endurance became the trademark of the Messiah’s followers, symbolized in the cross. The Messiah wins by faithfully enduring, then being given the victory by God. (Heb. 12:2)

The world’s opposition to us is the cross re-enacted in miniature in our personal worlds. The world is only picking up where it left off at Calvary, but the world cannot win. It does not have the tools either to defeat the Messiah in us or knock the Messiah out of us. All the world can do is beat on us, and beat it will. We are going to need the Messiah’s strength and shelter. In the next seven weeks we will see what messianic shelter means and how it works.

Welcome: Thank you, Jesus, for choosing to move into my life and to take me along as part of your movement. Welcome! Let’s go!

Affirmation: Where Jesus is, safety is. I can never really be unsheltered when I am with him on his mission, and I can never really be sheltered when I am not.

Sunday, September 26th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

A small boy playing with his buddies in the back yard, they were overheard talking one day. One of them remarked, “My Dad knows the mayor of the town!” I overheard another say, “That is nothing—my Dad knows the governor of our state!” When I wondered what was coming next in the “program of bragging,” One little son of four years of age was heard to say, “That is nothing—my Dad knows God!” The dad hurriedly left his place of eavesdropping with tears running down his cheeks, he looked up to God and prayed, “Oh God, I pray that my boy will always be able to say, ‘My Dad knows God.’”

Where men may fail, God never fails. To stand tall, we must realize from where our strength comes. Remember these words of the writer of Psalms 147:13:
“For He strengthens the bars of your gates and blesses your children within you.”

"God, the best legacy I can leave is 'You are my God.'
Amen."

The Chaplain's Corner

Guest blogger, Chaplain Paul, is one of the most effective chaplains in America today. He is an emergency responder to every situation.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

I had my eyes examined this week; it's time, I guess past time, for new glasses.

Several years ago when I got the glasses I've been wearing, they corrected my vision so that I was seeing very well. However over the years my vision changed and what I could easily see back then had slipped into the fuzzy realm. But I really did not notice it because it happened slowly, just a little at a time.

Our spiritual sight is subject to the same kind of changes. Over time things that were once clear can become hazy or distorted. Things that looked pleasant, holiness and devotion, lose their luster. And things that looked ugly, sin and worldliness, now don't look all that bad.

What happened?

We have lost sight of God. Or, better said, we have stopped looking Godward. And the longer we are in that condition the more clouded our vision becomes.

So, it's not really an eye problem, it's a heart problem. Matthew 5:8 says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God." It's hard to see God, or to even want to see God, when our heart is not pure. But when our hearts are pure we will see Him. And seeing Him will put everything else in perspective.

When we get our heart right with Him, when we really see Him, that takes away the haze and lets us see other things in a Godly light.

Have things been getting a little blurry lately in a spiritual sense? Don't get your eyes checked, ask Dr. Jesus to check your heart. And remember, "If we confess our sins to God, He can always be trusted to forgive us and take your sins away." 1 John 1:9

There is a "Civil War" (meaning a war that is civil) going on in the two "conservative" camps.

One camp is made up with the conservatives that focus on economic issue. The other camp are the ones whose focus is on social issues. Matthew Boyle of The Daily Caller does a pretty good job at explaining the differences and seeing the need for the two to come together.
Inside the conservative civil war: Social vs. fiscal conservatism

Conservative advocates debated the social versus fiscal divide in Tea Party and GOP circles at a Family Research Council symposium Friday, headlined by The New York Times’ conservative columnist Ross Douthat.

Douthat said the Tea Party movement, though aimed at cutting government size and spending, is electing candidates that are just as socially conservative as they are economically conservative – whether it be Joe Miller in Alaska or Christine O’Donnell in Delaware.....

Saturday, September 25th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

A storm wrecked a ship. The only survivor was a little boy who was swept by the waves onto a rock. There he sat all night long. In the morning he was seen and rescued. One of his rescuers asked him, “Did not you tremble while you were on the rock during the night?” His answer: “I surely did tremble but the rock did not.” We are human. We cannot help but tremble, but the Rock on which we stand never does.

Likewise, in our lifespan as many events and tragedies shake and quake our lives, The Lord, our solid Rock stands fast. The writer of Psalms 33:11 tells us,
“The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.”
We are in His plans and not only am I glad, but also I am thankful that He is steadfast.

"God, thank You for being the same yesterday, today and forever.
Amen."

Christian Web News
Pastors to Participate in Pulpit Freedom Sunday

On Sunday, at least 100 pastors will do the unthinkable: talk about politics from the pulpit.

The IRS says that pastors cannot talk about political issues or candidates from the pulpit, however, this Sunday several pastors will break that rule and some will even go as far as sending their sermons to the IRS, daring them to say something.

For the past couple of years, Pastors have been doing this, and so far there has only been one investigation which was dropped immediately, according to Kevin Theriot, senior counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund.

Lyndon Johnson found himself being a popular subject among churches and wasn't too happy with the critical comments from Christian pastors who were concerned about his behavior. So, in 1954, the rule was made that pastors are not to speak about politics from the pulpit.

Before the rule was adopted, pastors could speak freely from the pulpit, even about specific candidates, elections and issues, according to the ADF.

Erik Stanely, also a senior counsel for the ADF, said “The IRS should not be used as a political tool to advance the agenda of radical groups bent on silencing the voice of the church and inhibiting religious freedom. It is ironic that a group with a name like 'Americans United for Separation of Church and State' continues to exploit a scheme of massive government monitoring and surveillance of churches.”....

Sooner or later it's going to happen.

“Let there be no thought of what you can do for God, but all thought of what God can do through you.” (F. B. Meyer)

When a person feels he is doing for God, he tends to brag on himself instead of The Master. When we understand that we are the glove for God’s hand and allow Him to master our movement,  we will be allowing Him to be God. The apostle Paul in Galatians 2:20 reveals to us his position of letting Christ direct his life with these words:
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

"God, work through me.

Day 135

Yahweh

God's Glory Revealed to man

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

And of this Everlasting God coming... what did we expect to behold?
"And the glory of the Lord will appear,
and all humanity will see [it] together,
for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
"
Isaiah 40:5 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

And what is this "Glory of the LORD" that was to appear?

It was of course none other than our Lord and Savior... YahShua (Jesus).
Ours is a glorious inheritance indeed.

Rejoice Oh Daughter of Zion... for your Light has come.

CHICAGO, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Nearly one in five gay and bisexual men in 21 major U.S. cities are infected with HIV, and nearly half of them do not know it, U.S. health officials said on Thursday.

Day 134

Yahweh

A Solemn Question Asked

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

After the appeal from Heaven to cry out the coming of Yahweh... one then asks a somber question... why?
"A voice was saying, "Cry out!" Another said, "What should I cry out?" "All humanity is grass, and all its goodness is like the flower of the field." Isaiah 40:6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

This is a breathtaking question. "Why should we?" asks the Heavenly Clarion? The Clarion goes on to establish that man is like grass... withering and weak... so... why bother?

The answer is in the character of Yahweh... not the virtue of any man.

We... owe Him everything.

This is really embarrassing coming from Jimmy Carter.... or from anyone actually! (I don't like using exclamation marks... but how does one not with a statement like this from a former president?!

Jimmy Carter Says US More Polarized Than During Civil War

“This country has become so polarized that its almost astonishing…. Not only with the red and blue states… President Obama suffers from the most polarized situation in Washington that we have ever seen – even maybe than the time of Abraham Lincoln and the initiation of the war between the states.”

Somebody needs to put Jimmy on some kind of medication.

More polarized than the polarization that led up to the Civil War in 1860... in America? This is profoundly ridiculous Mr. Carter. You must be reading from some survivalist manual.

The American voter is going to wage war come November... and already has in various state primaries... just in case you haven't been reading the news for the past 10 months... but it won't be a war waged with guns and bullets... but a war waged with ballots... and it won't be any weapon in the hand of a maniac name "Booth" shooting the president... but rather it will be citizens exercising their conscience in a voting booth that is going to bring down this political madness.

How many meager meals have become banquets because of the company we were with? How many feasts have been reduced to mush because of bitterness or anger at the table? The writer of Psalms 89:15 gives us this bit of advice:
“Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.”
This advice is just another great reason to ask the blessing on each meal, inviting the Lord’s blessings upon the food and upon the lives with whom we share the meal.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

We have a couch in our living room with a recliner built into it. This week the reclining part stopped working. I turned it upside down to see if I could fix it.

There are a lot of parts and pieces under there; a very sturdy steel mechanism and other apparatus that help the couch function as it should. Everything looked good . . . except for one part, a small lever that you pull to activate the movement. The malfunction of that one small part shut down the whole operation. And now my couch is just sitting there, unable to function as it was designed to do.

In some ways that couch reminds me of the church. Sometimes just one small part (person) gets broken or out of alignment and the whole thing gets messed up, not doing what God intended for it to do.

Maybe you don't feel like you're all that important to your church. But what does God's word say? The Bible compares the Church to a body. In first Corinthians 12 it says,
"As it is, there are many parts, but one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable."
Look at the word, "indispensable." YOU ARE INDISPENSABLE! The Church, the body of Christ, needs You. Your church will not work as well as it should without you doing your part.

Now please understand, I'm talking to Christians here. If you are a born again child of God then you belong in Church. I know there are lots of excuses for not going - and we all know most of them are unacceptable. Every Christian has an indispensable part to play IN CHURCH.

Now, if you're not an authentic Christian - the first thing you need to do is give your life to Christ and then get involved in Church. And you can do that right now, right where you are.

Sept. 19 – The survival festival

Guest blogger, Stan Nussbaum, takes us on a journey through the messianic year calendar.

Welcome to the journey of our Messiah through the year with Dr. Hussbaum.

“You must live in temporary shelters for seven days . . . so that your future generations may know that I made the Israelites live in temporary shelters when I brought them out from the land of Egypt.” Lev. 23:42-43 (NLT)

As the Jewish year transitions from the Day of Atonement to the Feast of Tabernacles (or Feast of Booths or Shelters), we transition from the Season of Forgiveness to the Season of Shelter. The focus of the season is on the Messiah as the one who gives shelter and provision so his people can survive the journey he is leading them on.

The Jewish festival, Sept. 22-29 this year, involves living for a week in makeshift booths, huts, or shelters as reminders of the journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. The roofs have to be made from branches cut from trees, and the sky has to be visible through the roof somewhere.

The point of a flimsy shelter is clear. “We should not have survived that journey under those awful conditions, but by the grace of God we did! Praise him!” The God of Israel wants to be remembered and honored as the God who takes his people places and who gets them there even if the journey is impossible.

The theme of shelter was associated with the theme of provision, since the Feast of Shelters occurred at the end of the summer fruit harvest. The experience of remembering the journey by roughing it for a week was supposed to counteract the temptation to take God’s gifts for granted once the people got settled in the Promised Land.

How well we know that temptation! Our American culture today has gone a step beyond taking God’s shelter and provision for granted. Though we would not say it this way (because then the blasphemy would be obvious even to us), we often react to life’s difficulties as if we somehow have a human right to be exempt from them. Are we assuming God owes us at least 80 years of life? He owes us decent health, as well as our children? He owes us accident protection? He owes us reliable employment with a good retirement plan? He owes us the air we breathe? Or at least he owes us as much of all these things as the people around us have?

When he provides for us, is he is just doing his job? And if he does not do it as well as we expect, do our heads quickly fill with questions like, Why is he not giving us our rights? How could he shortchange us? How could he let that calamity hit us? Why is he so unfair?

There is a sinful tendency in all of us to start down this presumptuous road. Gratitude prevents it. The more grateful we are for what God gives us, the less upset we will be about what he does not give. The more we shout, “Thank God!” the less we shout, “Unfair.”

So let our whole Season of Shelter be a gradual crescendo leading up to the climax on Thanksgiving Day. Find some creative ways to counter your tendency to take things for granted. Camp out, fast or simplify your diet, switch off the computer or the hot water heater for a while. This is not persecuting yourself. It is persecuting your presumptuousness so your gratitude can thrive.

There is nothing glum about the Feast of Shelters. In fact, to this day Jews celebrate it as a feast of unbelievable joy. Their focus is not on how uncomfortable life is in a temporary shelter. It is on how reliable God is to help us survive and how much he blesses us once the journey is over.

Welcome: Jesus, reliable Son of the reliable Father, you are welcome to lead us out of our comfort zones because you are our comfort zone.

Affirmation: On the journey we are taking with the Messiah to his new world, I can survive anything. He will personally see to it.

Sunday, September 19th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

"Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.”
(Thomas à Kempis, c. 1380–1471)

Many times in my life I have been frustrated or even angry because of the actions of others. Sometimes the others even professed to be Christians, but their deeds were un-Christ like. In my own self-righteousness, I found my indignation rising until conviction set in, and I saw myself as I am, a sinner in need of the Savior, also. No matter how great or how small, my sin put Jesus on the cross. According to Scripture, all sin must be paid for: “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23), but praise God, the message doesn’t end there; the rest of the verse says,
“But the gift of God is eternal is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
"God, thank You for Your gift of salvation and for Your forgiveness of my sins...even when I get uppity.
Amen."

Day 131

Yahweh

Restoring a Distorted Image

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Here in chapter 40 of Isaiah... God is attempting to correct humanities fallen and distorted image of Himself. We see part of this in verses 10 and 11:
"See, the Lord God comes with strength, and His power establishes His rule. His reward is with Him, and His gifts accompany Him. 11 He protects His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries [them] in the fold of His [garment]. He gently leads those that are nursing."

God's strength and rule are presented as primarily purposed to give rewards, gather and protect His people, and to give righteous leadership to His flock.

It is very difficult to restore and correct man's fallen image and concepts about Yahweh.... but Yahweh persists.

It is in The Name.

Saturday, September 18th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“Authority is God-ordained, but authoritarianism and raw power, in almost all forms, is dangerous.” (James C. Dobson)

The writer of Psalms 75:6-7 reminds us:
“Promotion comes neither from the east, nor the west, nor the south, but God is the judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another.”
Knowing God is in ultimate control, we must use wisdom in our reactions to the authorities under whom He places us. Not only do we have lessons to learn, but also the one in authority must learn lessons for the good of all.

"God, give me wisdom in following orders as well as standing for righteousness.
Amen."

Day 130

Yahweh

An Incredulous Question

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth."
Isaiah 40:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

One of the very few things that... mystifies God... is... how can any human not know that there is but one God... and that He is the Creator of all that there is?

And all of Heaven wonders as well.

Newt wrote this back in July...

Newt Gingrich Statement on Proposed Mosque/Islamic Community Center near Ground Zero

There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia. The time for double standards that allow Islamists to behave aggressively toward us while they demand our weakness and submission is over.

The proposed "Cordoba House" overlooking the World Trade Center site – where a group of jihadists killed over 3000 Americans and destroyed one of our most famous landmarks - is a test of the timidity, passivity and historic ignorance of American elites. For example, most of them don’t understand that “Cordoba House” is a deliberately insulting term. It refers to Cordoba, Spain – the capital of Muslim conquerors who symbolized their victory over the Christian Spaniards by transforming a church there into the world’s third-largest mosque complex.

Today, some of the Mosque’s backers insist this term is being used to "symbolize interfaith cooperation" when, in fact, every Islamist in the world recognizes Cordoba as a symbol of Islamic conquest. It is a sign of their contempt for Americans and their confidence in our historic ignorance that they would deliberately insult us this way.

Those Islamists and their apologists who argue for "religious toleration" are arrogantly dishonest. They ignore the fact that more than 100 mosques already exist in New York City. Meanwhile, there are no churches or synagogues in all of Saudi Arabia. In fact no Christian or Jew can even enter Mecca.

And they lecture us about tolerance.

If the people behind the Cordoba House were serious about religious toleration, they would be imploring the Saudis, as fellow Muslims, to immediately open up Mecca to all and immediately announce their intention to allow non-Muslim houses of worship in the Kingdom. They should be asked by the news media if they would be willing to lead such a campaign.

We have not been able to rebuild the World Trade Center in nine years. Now we are being told a 13 story, $100 million megamosque will be built within a year overlooking the site of the most devastating surprise attack in American history.

Finally where is the money coming from? The people behind the Cordoba House refuse to reveal all their funding sources.

America is experiencing an Islamist cultural-political offensive designed to undermine and destroy our civilization. Sadly, too many of our elites are the willing apologists for those who would destroy them if they could.

No mosque.

No self deception.

No surrender.

The time to take a stand is now - at this site on this issue.

Thanks Newt for laying out the correct logic.

Friday, September 17th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

A missionary who was speaking to a group of Hindu women was surprised to see one of them get up and walk away. Soon she returned and listened more intently than before. “Why did you leave in the middle of my message?” the missionary asked her later. “I was so interested in the wonderful things you were saying that I went to ask your servant if you live like you teach," said the woman. "He said you do, so I came back to hear more about Jesus.”
This account is a good reminder that It isn’t so much what we say as it is what we do. Jesus in Matthew 5:16 told His listeners (and us),
“Let your light so shine before men, that they see your good works, and glorify your father which is in heaven.”
A major lesson to learn from this statement is "Let others see Jesus in you."

"God, let my words speak as equals to my actions.
Amen."

Hope Deferred...but Rejoicing in Hope

The Desert Rat speaks of our Hope...

... in Christ alone.

The Desert Rat of Morgan
"They passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; and after they came to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them; and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, saying, 'Come over to Macedonia and help us.' When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them" (Acts 16:6-10).

This is during Paul's "second missionary journey." He has been traveling through the Roman Empire "strengthening the churches" (15:41), with the result that "the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were increasing in number daily" (16:5). And then block, block, vision.

I don't know about you, but the sequence is not what I have usually experience in my walk of faith. In my experience, it's usually vision, block, block, block, etc.

The Psalms are filled with this great longing for the LORD, and we can relate as the Psalmist sits between a vision and a roadblock:
* "As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all day long, 'Where is your God?'" (Psalm 42:1-3).

* "I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; my eyes fail while I wait for my God" (Psalm 69:3).

* "My soul languishes for Your salvation; I wait for Your word. My eyes fail with longing for Your word, while I say, 'When will You comfort me?'" (Psalm 119:81,82).

* "Answer me quickly, O LORD, my spirit fails; do not hide Your face from me, or I will become like those who go down to the pit" (Psalm 143:7).

What do we do? Pray against the devil? It wasn't the devil blocking Paul, though his intentions to go into Asia and Bithynia were wholly Kingdom-oriented. Beware lest we find ourselves trying to cast out the Spirit of Jesus in our spiritual warfare! What do we do?
"Now [Jesus] was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart, saying, 'In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, "Give me legal protection from my opponent." For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, "Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out."' And the Lord said, 'Hear what the unrighteous judge said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry out to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? I tell you that He will bring justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?'" (Luke 18:1-8).

We keep praying in faith and we don't lose heart. It's the second part that gets difficult, doesn't it? After all, "hope deferred makes the heart sick" (Proverbs 13:12). Paul, a man who knew difficulty and roadblocks, commands us to always be "rejoicing in hope" (Romans 12:12). How do we do this? This isn't, of course, the only time Paul speaks of "hope" in this letter to the Romans. Let's look at what else he says about hope, about avoiding a sick heart, and learning to rejoice while we wait between the vision and the roadblock.

We rejoice in hope because of the promises of the One in Whom we have hope.
"In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, 'So shall your descendants be.' Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb; yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform" (Romans 4:18-21).

Abraham. Hope against hope. As good as dead. Amazing passage for those between the vision and the roadblock, for this is where the great patriarch pitched his tent for DECADES. What kept Abraham from the "sick heart"? In hoping he "he grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured." What was the factor that allowed him to be "rejoicing in hope"? The promise of God.

* He hoped "according to that which had been spoken."
* He hoped because of "what God had promised."

The Word of God had been given to Abraham, and so he was able to rejoice in hope, IN SPITE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES. Everything about the outward reality, the facts of the situation, said that Abraham's hope was impossible. So it is in our lives between the vision and the roadblock. In this valley everything says, "give this up right now, it cannot happen." But God has spoken and the circumstances cannot silence this Word.

To keep hope deferred from becoming a spiritual heart disease, we trust in the Word of God alone, despite all the protestations of outward circumstance. This is the primary means God uses to bringing the one waiting in hope the comfort that sustains the heart:
"For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope" (Romans 15:4).

The Word cannot be a tree of life to the one hoping unless you read it and are familiar with the God Who gives visions and roadblocks. We should make ourselves familiar with Him not mainly through the testimonies and experiences of others, but through what He has said about Himself in His Word. Read it while you wait. Make it your companion, and learn assurance that allows you to rejoice while hoping.

God the Holy Spirit wrote the Scriptures. They are written to tell us about the God Who is our Satisfaction, Comfort, Love, Joy, and greatest Peace. When we get separated from this Word, hope deferred can make our hearts sick. When we are in His Word, reminding ourselves of Who He is, we can rejoice while waiting on hope. Don't get self-centered in reading Scripture, though. We are meant to get lost in the glory of Christ not by "finding ourselves" (the pop-psychology word of this generation), but finding Him and finding that He satisfies all we could ever need. Make your Scripture reading about getting lost in His glory and greatness. Rejoice in hope. It is a hope that cannot disappoint.

We rejoice in hope because we have the One in Whom we hope.

We don't just have His Word. We have Him.
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who was given to us" (Romans 5:1-5).

I remind you that our God is One God, but He is Three Persons, all equally 100% God and the same in essence. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This thing is a profound mystery confessed by the Church for two millennia. Men anchored to the sod of a fallen world in every generation have tried to redefine this Triune God into something that can be put in a box, but a God Who can be completely comprehended in this world is not much of God, is He? We hold to the God taught by the Scripture, Who is One and Three. No one has seen the Father at any time. The Son came and went. But, to insure that we do not lose heart and grieve as orphans in this world, God the Holy Spirit has come and will never leave His Church. We have the Book He has Authored, and we have Him.

Rejoicing in hope is not something we can do without the work of God the Holy Spirit in our lives. It is a supernatural assurance that hope will be fulfilled and rejoicing in the comforting presence of the Comforter while we wait, worship, and serve during this time between the vision and the roadblock. It is He Who teaches us the Word He has written and causes it to be food to satisfy us while we wait on the banquet to come.
"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13).
We persevere for a high but unseen hope.

We dream BIG because it is not our dream, but the God Who gives light and goodness in His gifts. We dream as big as God Himself.
"For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him Who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it" (Romans 8:20-25).

Big dreams, longing for the dream of God to see "the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth" (Ephesians 1:10)...and in our lives. We long for what we cannot see, but we have been told about it in the promises of God's Word, and have God the Holy Spirit Himself within us to enable us to hold on to this dream too big to be grasped by the human heart unassisted.
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).
We have faith that our hope will be fulfilled, and so we persevere, we endure to the end with faith in hope ever-growing through the nurturing and strengthening power of God the Holy Spirit Who dwells in His Church.

Difficult days may come when the groaning in our spirits seems louder than usual, but we endure to the end with faith and hope in the One Who has promised, the One Who is with us, and the One Who has caused us to hope in great and glorious (humanly impossible and even incomprehensible) things.

Consider and Ponder.

Day 129

Yahweh

His Name Cometh #7

"Look, Yahweh comes from far away, His anger burning and heavy with smoke. His lips are full of fury, and His tongue is like a consuming fire. 28 His breath is like an overflowing torrent that rises to the neck.... the Lord will make the splendor of His voice heard and reveal His arm striking in angry wrath and a flame of consuming fire, in driving rain, a torrent, and hailstones....."
Isaiah 30:27-30 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The Spoken Word of God.

There is a power here that man knows not... and a great part of the "Revealing" of the Messiah will be the revealing of that very power.
"The Lord Jesus will destroy him with the breath of His mouth and will bring him to nothing with the brightness of His coming."
2Thessalonians 2:8 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

And... all the nations will wail because of him... and every eye shall see him... and immeasurable Glory will fill the Universe... fresh... pure... radiant.

As The Evil One, and all that are his, are banished to the fire... the redeemed of Yahweh... will... rejoice.

Surely the day comes... as does The Name.

Thursday, September 16th, 2010. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“You can chop a cocklebur down, but if it has just a few days before frost, it will pop up even if only three or four inches tall and produce a seed.”
(Betty--my mother)

As far as I can tell, the cocklebur is neither a pretty plant nor a useful plant; however, in spite of great challenges, that sprout does what it was created to do. No matter what obstacles come its way, the plant produces fruit. In the same way, when challenges come our way and we are inclined to quit think about the cocklebur, we need to remember these words of the apostle Paul:
“Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord’s work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
(Corinthians 15:58)

"God, help me to remember to stay faithful, even when challenged in my daily opportunities.
Amen."
