Daily Nugget

     Sunday, September 30th, 2012.

Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill

Several years ago, Eugene Ormandy dislocated a shoulder while leading the Philadelphia Orchestra. I do not know what they were playing--certainly not Mozart, perhaps Stravinsky. At any rate, Ormandy was giving the performance all he had!

We often hear about different members of sports teams playing with injuries because they are so committed to making an impact for their team. As Christians committed to Christ's team, our total desire should be to interject our all in everything we do. The writer of Matthew 22:37 quotes Jesus as saying, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”  Imagine the result if and when we were to follow His commandment.

God, help us to put our all into loving You.  Amen.

Yahweh, Day 275

    Day 275
Yahweh: ... Calling on The Name #3

Joel 2:32
32 Then everyone who calls
on the name of Yahweh will be saved,
for there will be an escape
for those on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
as the LORD promised,
among the survivors the LORD calls.
(Holman Christian Standard Bible)

We have a simple question to consider today, “How can a person call on the Name of Yahweh, when the person does not know The Name, Yahweh?

Yahweh revealed His Name to Moses at the burning bush in Exodus 3.  It was a powerful revelation, the revelation of freedom from slavery and bondage for God’s people.  That very Name still has the same power and authority today, for Yahweh is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  Call on The Name.

This is in The Name.

Yahweh, Day 274

    Day 274
Yahweh: ... Calling on The Name #2

Joel 2:32
32 Then everyone who calls
on the name of Yahweh will be saved,
for there will be an escape
for those on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
as the LORD promised,
among the survivors the LORD calls.
(Holman Christian Standard Bible)

When a parent wants to get the attention of their child they will call the child’s name.  If you wish to get the attention of a person who is in a group of people you will naturally call out that person’s name.  There is just something inherently, attention getting, when one hears their own name called out.

This is actually a very Godly characteristic we have, for God also hears and responds to the calling out of His Name.  God likes His Name and He responds to the crying out of Him Name.

Call on His Name, Yahweh.

Yahweh, Day 273

    Day 273
Yahweh: ... Calling on The Name

Joel 2:32
32 Then everyone who calls
on the name of Yahweh will be saved,
for there will be an escape
for those on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
as the LORD promised,
among the survivors the LORD calls.
(Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The prophet here speaks first about calling on God’s Name in a time of distress for deliverance, and then by application in the New Testament, for salvation.  We would all do well to relearn the first application, calling on The Name, Yahweh, for deliverance.

There are times that we need deliverance from external issues/circumstances.  All kinds of problems that we may face, whether actual threat of bodily harm, or other problems and trials.  We all have them, it is a part of life and inescapable in this our fallen world.  Learn to call on The Name.

Then there are those problems and trials that are more personal in nature, the problem of personal sin.  We should likewise learn to call on The Name when any and every temptation comes our way.  We do not have to live defeated lives.  There is deliverance in The Name, Yahweh.

This is in the Name.
