Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

A few days ago I was talking to a fellow Christian that seemed preoccupied and a little discouraged. So I asked what was bothering them, they told me how hard they had been working at "being good" - and trying to avoid sinning. They had a long list of things they were avoiding, things they constantly reminded themselves not to do - so they could please God. Don't think about this and don't think about that. . .

After listening to them talk about their struggles with all these sinful things I suggested maybe they needed to change their focus; maybe they needed to stop focusing on what they shouldn't be doing and just focus on the Savior instead of the sin.

Hebrews 12:2 says, "We must focus on Jesus, who is the source and completeness of our faith." If we're focused on Jesus, if we're preoccupied with the Lord - His glory & grace, if we are looking into His face so that we can reflect Him, it's a lot easier to do, and say, and be what He has called us to - Ambassadors of Christ.

NASA targets children with Climate Kids website

NASA has officially entered the tax payer funded, child abuse business.

NASA's "Climate Kids"

(CNSNews.com) – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Web site network includes “Climate Kids: NASA’s Eyes on the Earth,” which use cartoons, games, and other activities to teach children about man-made global warming and climate change.

According to NASA’s budget request for fiscal year 2012, totaling $18.7 billion, the agency would dedicate $145.8 million to educational programs. The “Climate Kids” site is supported through NASA’s educational programs, according to a spokesman with the agency.

“Climate Kids” is part of a NASA-affiliated Web site operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a research and development and NASA field center that is managed by the California Institute of Technology.

One of the features on the children’s pages is a “Climate Tales” cartoon, “Adventures on a Changing Planet: Will our heroes ever find their way home?”

The cartoon features a polar bear and a fish. In the cartoon, some of the following dialogue occurs:

“Hey, it looks like your ice is melting,” the fish says.

“I had to swim for miles to find a chunk of ice to climb onto,” says the bear. “If I don’t get to rest once in a while I won’t have enough energy to hunt my next meal.”

“All the ice is melting,” the bear says.

After being transported to the South American rain forest, the fish and the polar bear meet a monkey.

“Where did all the trees go?” the bear asks.

“Funny story,” the monkey says. “The humans cut them down and burned them.”

“And now it’s a trash dump,” says the bear.

The monkey informs the bear that the humans tried to grow crops and “it didn’t take long for the humans to use all the rest of the life in the soil.”

“After a few years the humans moved on, leaving a dead and lifeless landscape,” says the monkey......

So ... we are scaling back the mission of NASA ... moving away from the exploration of Outer Space ... and moving her mission toward convincing children that humanity is the one great threat to our planet?

This is child abuse and criminal propaganda of children ... at the expense of tax payers ... for the express purpose of political profiteering ... and control of the human race.

Never been anymore evil invention by Satan than the global warming scam ... and more and more its target is children ... for the future.

Obviously, many of us do not accept ourselves. In fact, many of us have trouble accepting the forgiveness God has given us; consequently, we do not treat others with the respect they are due. If we are to change, we must follow the advice of Jesus Christ in Matthew 19:19 when he says,

“Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.”

The message is clear: To love your neighbor, you must love yourself.

Praying for bin Laden

Is it alright to now "pray" for bin Laden?

The mass this Sunday, May 22, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in West Palm Beach, Fla., will be offered on behalf of five people. Only one of them is a recently deceased head of a global terrorist network.

Parishioner Henry Borga requested the Mass intention on behalf of one Osama bin Laden. It is a long-standing tradition in the Catholic Church to offer Masses for souls in purgatory or to remember someone who has died or to honor someone still living. Borga told a local television channel that he placed the request for bin Laden because "he needs forgiveness and compassion from God." ....

Just for starters ... once a person is dead ... it's over. It is ridiculous to pray for an already dead person. Their life choices have been made ... it's over ... they stand before Holy God in judgment for their lives. Thinking that praying for a dead person is going to have any effect whatsoever on their eternal condition is pure superstition.

Next point. If you want to pray for someone associated with bin Laden ... then pray for the surviving families of the multiple thousands killed under this mad man's watch.

Find out and pray for each family by name, and each member of each family ... by name. The 3,000 or so killed on 9/11 would be a good starting place. There are many other thousands you can find as well after the first 3,000.

bin Laden left those he slaughtered without a prayer. To pray for him before earnestly praying for those he victimized would be the epitome of spiritual stupidity.

As Naomi ponders the sovereignty of God in the meeting between Ruth and Boaz, she begins to realize there is a distinct possibility that Boaz will take on the responsibility of marrying Ruth and providing the security she needs in the future. She begins, therefore, to formulate a clear and daring plan to ensure the continuance of the budding romance.

Note how she opens up the conversation: "My daughter, should I not try to find a home for you, where you will be well provided for? Is not Boaz — a kinsman of ours?" (vv. 1-2). This is not meddling or matchmaking, but simply bringing to bear on the issues the insight God has given to her.

Most people who fall in love and contemplate marriage could do with a little advice and counsel. Personally, I have never conducted a marriage service for a couple without requiring them to go through some premarital counseling. After all, marriage is probably the most important change that anyone on this earth can experience apart from conversion, and if ever guidance and help is needed, it is in relation to negotiating the difficulties that can occur when two people establish a close relationship.

I have come to the conclusion that one of the greatest indictments that can be leveled at the contemporary Christian Church is its failure, generally speaking, to assist and guide those who are about to be married. The more thought and care that goes into planning and preparing for marriage, the more likelihood there is that the couple will spend all their wedding anniversaries - together.

Father, forgive us that we, Your Church, have thought more about how to conduct weddings than how to nurture marriages. Help us to transmit the wisdom that comes from the Scriptures and our own life experiences to those about to marry. Amen.

Wait to move

Regarding the issue of the “un-evangelized”, I find it odd as a seminary student that this topic is always discussed in the abstract; in the confines of seminaries, churches, Sunday School classes, Bible studies, and so forth. Scholars, pastors, students, and laypersons always have a curiosity about this issue and what its implications are about “God’s character” from every angle of the discussion. What is often lacking in the essays, the articles, the books, and the conversations on this issue is what it says about the believers having the discussion; in the confines of seminaries, churches, Sunday School classes, Bible studies, and so forth.

This is not to say the issue should be of no interest of inquiry and discussion for Christians. Far from it. Nor am I going to give a detailed answer to the question of the “un-evangelized” except to say that I believe that unless one specifically repents and believes the Gospel of Jesus Christ, there is no salvation for any person (the “exclusivism” position, as it is often called).

The only point here is that the discussion of the “un-evangelized” as is commonly framed is usually centered more about what we think of God and how He “deals with the issue”. This is regardless of where we come down on the issue and how we shake out His love, wrath, holiness, justice, mercy, etc. What I think is that this conversation needs to be more about how we “deal with the issue” of the “un-evangelized” in light of the calling and global mission of the church, and put the emphasis of this inquiry back onto our hearts as believers.

Wishcasting The End Of The World

Wishcasting is when a forecast or prediction is shaded in the direction the forecaster or predictor wants the event to happen. For example, if you forecast this weekend’s weather, you might be inclined to discount evidence that it will rain. Similarly, if you predict which team will win tonight’s game—your home or the away team—you might exaggerate your team’s chances. End of the World

The potential for wishcasting is stronger the more interest the forecaster has in the outcome. Observe any gambler to see whether this is true. Wishcasting can be eliminated, but only by approaching uncertainty with a kind of Buddhist calm. This state is difficult to attain and even more difficult to retain.

All of us are interested in the future of humanity, many of us intensely so. This is one of the reasons why making guesses of what will happen is so difficult. We badly want events to turn out this way or that, and depending whether we’re naturally gloomy or bright, we misestimate the odds of the event turning out against us or in our favor.

Thus it must be for Harold Camping and Robert Fitzpatrick, who Fox News reports is a “a 60-year-old Staten Island resident” who “spent his entire $140,000 life savings advertising his prediction that the world will end May 21.”

Camping and Fitzpatrick belong to Family Radio Worldwide, a group which not only broadcasts its predictions, but has bought (or rented?) a fleet of buses which carry signs announcing that May 21st is it.

The followers of Camping are gloomy. They have heard of wars and rumors of wars, which they have interpreted as a sign that the end is nigh. But they have forgotten or given little weight to the warning that these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

I say they formed their prediction in such dark terms because these men want the end to come. Why? ....

You will want to go read it all!

OK, the 21st is the end of it all. That is this coming Saturday. We'll see. :-)

There are physical realities ... then there are spiritual realities. I am praying for Stephen Hawking today ... that he will come to the place where he can grasp how wide, deep, long, and high the Father's love is for His creation ... and His love for Stephen Hawking.

British scientist Stephen Hawking has branded heaven a "fairy story" for people afraid of the dark, in his latest dismissal of the concepts underpinning the world's religions.

The author of 1988 international best-seller "A Brief History of Time" said in an interview with The Guardian published on Monday that his views were partly influenced by his battle with motor neurone disease.

We try to hurry and "worship," cramming music, praise, and proclamation into the short time of our worship services. The other day saw in a service they were observing a moment of silence. I think Dr. Hansen has lost it. Earth has had higher CO2 concentrations several times in its history and it didn’t head to runaway roasting. So far, this all hinges on positive feedbacks, and there doesn’t seem to be much conclusive evidence for it. Here’s what Pielke Sr. has to say about CO2 as a control knob for Earth’s climate system.

Joany speaks today about the inability of most people to offer any truly meaningful advice about dealing with the sudden loss of a child. As much as they might like to try and help we are usually left to deal with the loss in our own way ... on our own.

The bond of a mother’s love begins at conception, cements the first time she hears your heartbeat, and strengthens with each kick she feels as you grow from her nourishment while still in the womb. A mother’s love makes you want to try to repay her from even an early age. When we think about her sacrifices and gifts to us, we know we can never get even. At the same time, we are reminded of the love of God and the gift of eternal life He has given to us through His son Jesus. The apostle John tells us of God’s love in John 3:16:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

What a gift, the gift of life here and in the eternal realm.

And no real criticism aimed at actions engaged in by this President for which Bush would've been excoriated.

As 2012 approaches, we'll see more if it, guaranteed.

Wednesday night on the way home from church I knew I needed to get gas for my wife Reta before the next morning. She looked at the gauge and said she thought she could make it to school the next morning. She was wrong, as we approached home the car died about a half mile from the nearest service station we knew that was open. With a sentence prayer I put on the signal light so I could get into the right lane to continue to coast as far as possible. As we came into town we noticed a new station had re-opened and I coasted into the station and when fueled I was able to start the car and continue to the house.

Do you think I forgot to give thanks to God for the answered prayer? I think not, I join the apostle Paul in his words in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, saying,

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

Last night on ABC's "Nightline" show they interviewed the Mother of one of the NY City fire fighters that died in the World Trade Center on 9/11.

It was a surprisingly good interview from one of our MSM outlets.

I loved the Mother's last statement in the interview concerning the death of Osama bin Laden at the hands of our Navy Seals, "I take great pleasure in knowing that the last thing bin Laden saw in this life was a United States Navy Seal preparing to take his life."

What a regal understatement from one who might have otherwise gloated at the events of the day. Many crude statements that came to the surface after the death of Osama bin Laden were made by individuals who, because of deep emotions, likely didn't even realize the severity of a wicked man standing before the eternal judge of all men.

The writer of Ecclesiastes 7:1-3 gives us all this advice:

“A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth. It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.”

Hallelujah!

The question has been asked as to whether or not it is appropriate for there to be expressions of relief/gratitude/joy at the demise of one such as Osama bin Laden?

If we go to the scriptures we might find a clue about the answer to this question. I have listed below the first times that the "Hallulujah!" is used in both the Old and New Testaments. You will notice that in both instances it is the natural expression of praise to God ... for the destruction of the truly wicked ... from the hearts of His people.

First use in the Old Testament.

"May sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. My soul, praise the Lord! Hallelujah!"
Psalm 104:35

First use in the New Testament.

"After this I heard something like the loud voice of a vast multitude in heaven, saying: Hallelujah! Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God, because His judgments are true and righteous, because He has judged the notorious prostitute who corrupted the earth with her sexual immorality; and He has avenged the blood of His servants that was on her hands. A second time they said: Hallelujah!"
Revelation 19:1-3

Friends ... there is not need for feelings of guilt for feeling joy/relief at hearing of the destruction of the wicked slayers of humanity. In the scripture the Hallelujah! was the heart felt praise to Almighty God ... over the bringing of His Righteous Justice ... to the enemies of virtue.

Osama bin Laden is dead.

Hallelujah!
