Day 93 Yahweh: Pure Religion

    Sing to God! Sing praises to His name.
    Exalt Him who rides on the clouds—
    His name is Yahweh — and rejoice before Him.

    5 A father of the fatherless
    and a champion of widows
    is God in His holy dwelling.

    6 God provides homes for those who are deserted.
    He leads out the prisoners to prosperity...

James... in the New Testament speaks up for the character of Yahweh.... and our call to the same...

    But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his own face in a mirror; 24 for he looks at himself, goes away, and right away forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who acts-this person will be blessed in what he does. 26 If anyone thinks he is religious, without controlling his tongue but deceiving his heart, his religion is useless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

“With silence one irritates the devil” (Bulgarian Proverb).

 

With silence, arguments lose their fuel. With silence, the heart is heard. With silence, we can just let the presence of God fill our being.   The writer of Habakkuk 2:20 says, “But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.”

 

God, let the silence be deafening as I enjoy Your presence. Amen.

Yahweh: Step-Parents Day

    Sing to God! Sing praises to His name.
    Exalt Him who rides on the clouds—

We celebrate Father's and Mother's day... and rightly so... but there is another focus that we should begin to celebrate... Step-Parent's Day.

The place of being a step-parent is often looked upon as some necessarily evil and difficult position... and though it may be a 'difficult' position.... it should not be seen as an evil position.

Verse 5 above: "A father of the fatherless..." if you will think for a moment... speaks to the taking up the mantle of a 'step-parent'... a role that Yahweh personally embraces...

    "Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord cares for me."
    Psalm 27:10 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Think about this for a moment... God embraces the position of a step-parent... should we not rethink some of our attitudes toward those that will step into a single parent's life... and cherish that single parent's child/children?

It is a very Godly place.

Into every life a little rain must fall. Into some lives little sprinkles will fall, while others are blessed or plagued with buckets full. However it is given unto us, we must remember God is with us and will not leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

God, thank You for the sunshine, the rain, and for everything in between. Thank You for the walk with me through whatever may be. Amen.
