Remember

"Yahweh, remember what has happened to us. Look, and see our disgrace!"
Lamentations 5:1 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Of course ... what had happened to Israel had happened because of their own self-centered ... rebellion against God ... and that with Yahweh sending over and over and over again voices of warning ... hoping, if you will, that Israel would see the folly of her way ... and turn back to God with her heart.

Somehow Israel knew this about Yahweh, that He was a God that ... even though He could certainly remember their sin ... He certainly could also forgive.
