NEW COVENANT PSALM 17

BELOVED

Justice... delivered on Calvary... greatest agony...
to absolve... THE WRATH.

Now... free... clean... fresh.
Like giggling waters tumbling down gullies
of melting ice packs...
in the spring shine of a
smiling... glowing sun.

Even in the night
I am caressed and wrapped...
in awe...
and wonder...
and joy.

Dear One...
Would you bring the outcast to me?
To join me...
on my knees...
bowing here at your wounded feet...

Like finding a bridge
over raging...
rushing...
crushing...
torrents of frozen rage...
that shatter the heart
like spikes of molten lead...

Bring the outcast
to join me here.
Together.
With You.
Shalom.

New Covenant Psalm 16

Scribed upon the hearts of those who relish the Dear One.

"In Christ"...how fast the sound of those two words.
"My Lord"...believe this confession? "My Lord."

Have you believed the Dear One's confession? "I delight in you."

I despise the bile that has been in my heart...
on my lips...
but by the grace of God...
no more.

Dear One...you have captured my heart.
Like the wild stallion captured in the field
I've kicked and whined in fear and fury!
But at last I see...
Your fields are luscious indeed.

I love your gentle proddings in the night,
"Are you awake? Would you spend some time with just me?"

Dear One, you have captured my mind,
you have captured my heart.
Every part of my being is at peace...in you.

Shalom, yes full and total fulfillment,
I've found in you.

New Covenant Psalm 15

For the one seeking to discover the Heart of God

Dearest One,

How do I learn the truth of your presence...
to be consciously aware?
How do I shut down the self-slander,
and allow myself to simply bask in your acceptance?

I want to ache for the flaws in others
like a parent hurting for their injured child...
not scolding, but feeling the hurt of their child.

Oh Dear One, could I bear some of the agony
of those adrift in the sea of self-seeking?
Could I appeal to you...for them?

Could I see the drifting ones through your eyes?
Could my words be like money in the bank?
Could I be strong for the weak?

Could I?

New Covenant Song 14

For the one seeking to discover the Heart of God

I was so lost apart from the Dear One,
so adrift in my self-seeking.

But...God came looking...
and when the Dear One found me...
Finally...I saw.
I had embraced the maggot as my equal
delighting in the stench of decay...
as life.

And yet the decay calls us.
Like a sailor drowning at sea it cries out,
"Don't leave me!
Don't desert me!"

There comes the time when
We must abandon the maggot...
to live.

New Covenant Song 12

For the Worship Leader.

Heard these before?

"The sky is falling, the sky is falling!"
"It's all over but the crying!"
"Might as well cash in your chips!"
"You just can't trust a soul anymore!"
"What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve!"
"God helps those that help themselves!"

Does any of the above sound...familiar?
Actually, God helps those who can't help themselves.

As surely as God is God,
our Dear One will keep His word.
When all else looks hopeless...
God will.

New Covenant Song 13

For those whose hearts love to worship.

Oh Dear One!
How I grieve over my heart...
Often struggling with my thoughts.
Voices of loneliness, sorrow,
Self-pity, and guilt.

I often feel like...
A wrestler pinned beneath
A smothering, sweating, mass of
Brawn and rage...
Drooling into my heart,
Curses and mockery.

Then...I remember.

You are so merciful,
Patient,

Caring.

I remember...
You really care.

Oh, Dear One,
I am wide eyed...
In wonder.

Thank You.

New Covenant Song 11

For those desiring God’s heart.

The Glorious One has drawn me
Into Purity and Passion.

When the familiar dread
Comes whispering in my ear
I turn to the Prince of Peace
Enthroned within my heart.
Like the brooding Eagle
Caressing her chicks…
The Prince of Peace is
Enthroned in my heart!

Oh Righteous One!
How could we delight in conquest,
Howling like wolves over the prey
With hot blood on our lips…
Relishing the taste of blood?

Oh Dear God!
Let your compassion blanket our lives
Like morning dew covering the ground.
Crisp, treasured diamonds of life…
Sparkle in our hearts
That we might reflect Your grace.

New Covenant Song 10

Dear Sovereign One,
I was so arrogant,
So filled with vanity.
I really thought I could
Do as I wished,
When I wished,
How I wished.

So foolish…
I had no room for you in my life or heart.
I thought of you like some marble statue,
Cold…paralyzed…blind…unknowing…distant.

When I thought of you at all
It was just how I could…
Influence you,
Avoid you,

Use you…

I did not know how to really love…

People.

They were just objects for my…
Pride,
Position,
Power,
Passion.

I only knew how to use people.

Thank you for hearing their sorrow.
Thank you for bearing your love…
Upon my self-seeking heart.
Like the rising tide at noonday,
You have covered me,
Washed me,
And taught me…

To care.

New Covenant Song 9

This poor man will cry out,
This desperate woman will sing…
For I was like
a motherless child…
Now received and cherished by desire…
that was born in the heart of heaven.

A rough block of ore,
Now stroked and polished with divine intent…
Like the ruby adorned by the breasts of the Queen.

We are each and every one…
the favorite of God…

Fear?
I don’t remember your face?
I don’t remember your name?
I don’t remember your charge.

I’ve been embraced by Splendor,
Spoiled by Grace,
And lavished with Mercy.

I am full.

New Covenant Song 8

For those after God’s Heart

Yahweh, Dearest Friend,
Glorify Your Name
In the heart of all mankind.

May our spiritual blinders
Drop like lead on the dust…
So that we may see…truly see…
Your Majesty…radiant over all.
Smile…like the sun bursting forth
To dissolve our dark morning.

Innocence.
We long for innocence.
Oh to play at your feet like a child again.
Laughing children…running wide eyed…
Bringing and bragging about our mud pies…
To mommy and daddy.
And you cherish each one.
May we know this again?
May we just rest…and inhale…acceptance?

The Universe…well…we are speechless.
Vast expanse,
Painted on the easel of your will…

And, there we are!
Yes…we are here.

And, dare we say…
formed in the heart and image…
of God.

And, like you…
We care, share, help,
And love.

You have given to us
A great, big, wonderful world and life…
To care for.

Oh, Yahweh, Dearest Friend,
Glorify Your Name
In the heart of all mankind.

New Covenant Song 7
With Passion for Yahweh

7:1 Yahweh, Eternal One, it’s me again.
I praise you for your loving care
2 for there are some would harm me,
wishing to tear out my heart like an abandoned child on the streets.
3 Dear Eternal One, show me the evil I have done?
Show me the blind spots in my life?
4 Have I mistakenly hurt another?
Have I used one for my own advantage?
5 Show me my error!
Use whatever discipline it takes to change me…
I want to be like Jesus.
(Give thanks and reflect on this.)
6 Arise Yahweh, in your glory!
May your glory shine on your servant!
Bring honor to your great name,
And guard the dignity of your kingdom.
7 Let your church rejoice in you!
Receive our worship and praise!
8 Yahweh, you have redeemed your people
With the blood of your Son.
You have clothed us with fresh, pure linen.
9 Oh Yahweh, convict our hearts!
Give us your heart!
You know us better than we know ourselves.
Give us the mind of Christ.
10 Eternal One, you are our transformer
creating Christ Jesus in us.
11 You are so holy,
so very good to the oppressed.
12 Bring repentance to our hearts
and convince us with the truth of your Word.
You have given us the treasure of your Word!
13 You have preserved it through time
and bear it’s truth to our hearts.
14 Your Word reveals the thoughts of people,
even when intentions are wrong.
15 Poor souls stumble and fall over their own mistakes.
16 The consequences of our errors are grievous to bear and offensive to your Spirit.
17 Thank you Yahweh, for your redemption;
I will sing the praises of Yahweh, the Eternal One,
Above all.

New Covenant Song 6

6:1 Praise for Mercy

For the Worship Minister: with sympathy
(When there is stress) A Heart Song

Oh Yahweh, for me, You scourged Your Son.
The wrath of righteousness consumed Messiah.
2 Oh Yahweh, Your grace fills my weakness; Your strength calms my fearful heart.
3 I had almost lost all hope;
Then I reflected on Your love for me.

4 Oh Yahweh, You received me,
In Messiah You demonstrated Your love for me!
5 I will exult in Your presence forever;
I will rejoice with creation’s redeemed.

6 I grow so weary of temptation;
I long to be free from the presence of sin.
7 Yet, the world around us is oh, so lost;
The world…so opposed to Glorious God.

8 I wish I could talk with every lost soul
And share the love of Messiah with them.
9 I once was lost, then YahShua found me;
Yahweh received me in Messiah’s love.
10 Oh dear lost souls…turn to YahShua…
With all your heart!
Please…
Don’t walk away from Yahweh’s love.

New Covenant Song 4
Song 4
For the Worship Leader: Grateful Praise
A Heart Song.
4:1 A Night Praise
Thank you for hearing my heart,
Dear Provider of my righteousness
You free me from my distress;
Thank you for hearing my praise.

2 How long, will the lost fail to see what You have done in my life?
How long must they seek vanity?
And, live in spiritual blindness?
(Give thanks and reflect on this.)

3 Thank You Father for accepting me
in the Beloved Lord Yah Shua.
Thank you Father, for hearing my praise.
4 I often struggle with resentment
Until I meditate on Your Mercy for me.
(Give thanks and reflect on this.)

5 I praise You for the Blood shed for me.
You are faithful always.

6 Many are so blind to the favor You show.
Please open their eyes to Your love, Yahweh.

7 You fill my heart with joy.
Touch the lost with Your abundant goodness.

New Covenant Song 3

3:1 Compassion in Troubled Times

A Song when betrayed by one close to your heart.

[picture by Ivan Kramskoy Unconsolable Grief]
Oh Yahweh, those I have helped have turned against me.
They are now actually striving to hurt me.
2 They are talking and acting like
You don’t really care at all about me.
(Give thanks and reflect on this.)

3 But, Yahweh, you always embrace me with your love,
You are Glorious, and the One who encourages me.
4 Yahweh bears my grief with me,
And His precious Spirit intercedes for me from within my heart.
(Give thanks and reflect on this.)

5 I rest peacefully;
And rise expectantly because Yahweh embraces me.
6 Dear Messiah, You alone can calm the fear filled imaginations of my thoughts,
Thoughts that try to smother me in anxiety.

7 I praise You, Yahweh!
I yield my rights to You, Dear Father.
I have turned the other cheek
By serving those who seek my harm.
8 Please, convict these of their error
And bless them with Your understanding and compassion.

New Covenant Song 2

YahShua’s Incarnation, Emmanuel

1 Why would you rebel?
Why would you plan without God’s leading?

2 People want to be oh, so self-sufficient,
Longing to join hands and
Trying to prosper apart from Yahweh and our Messiah,
YahShua.

3 “We don’t want any limitations
And freedom without accountability is our desire!”

4 The One enthroned in heaven grieves,
Yahweh groans for them.

5 Now, Yahweh acts from heaven,
Reaching out to them with His great love.

6 “I send to you my Son,
Born, in a manger, in Bethlehem.”

7 Yahweh said to YahShua,
“You are my beloved Son;
I am so very proud of you!”

8 “My Son, I have heard your heart’s desire.
You will gain the hearts of many people
And they will admire you as you deserve.

9 You have won them by your blood.
Their hearts will break over your sacrifice of love.”

10 So now, all people please listen.
Please…receive God’s love for each and every one.
Please.
Please.
Receive.

11 Relish in the love of God.
Rejoice with every fiber of your being.

12 Worship the Son, YahShua.
Don't grieve the precious Holy Spirit.
We would languish away
Apart from His favor
And bring grief to His heart.
Fully trusting YahShua
brings great peace of heart.

Song one
A project I've been dreaming of for a few years begins today. I have loved the Psalms for decades as a source for daily devotions. I have been thinking of sort of writing the Psalms as though they were written in a New Covenant context...In other words how the Psalms might sound under the graced teaching of YahShua(Jesus) instead of under the Law. The result would be something like New Covenant Songs.

There is no way I would rewrite scripture, nor try to correct anything in the sacred texts. This is simply a suggestion on how a born again child of the King might share the same emotions we experience in the Psalms of the Old Testament.

New Covenant Song 1

1 Oh, how much grace those have received
To not follow the opinions of the wicked,
Or stand in fellowship with sinners,
Or take up the bitterness of scoffers.

2 But the Spirit has given them a delight in following YahShua;
and Christ has kneaded His love into their hearts.

3 They are like trees rooted in living waters,
The Spirit’s gifts work mightily within them,
to the weary they are like shade on a hot day,
and God accomplishes much through their lives.

4 But this in not true of the graceless.
They are like useless hulls of wheat,
Scattered by the confusing passions of the present.

5 They will end up empty and wasted with desperate regrets.
A life lived apart from God’s graced children.

6 For Yahweh carefully leads each step of His people,
But the road of the graceless leads to despair.
