Judge blocks Gulf offshore drilling moratorium
NEW ORLEANS – A federal judge struck down the Obama administration's six-month ban on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday, saying the government rashly concluded that because one rig failed, the others are in immediate danger, too.
The White House promised an immediate appeal. The Interior Department had halted approval of any new permits for deepwater drilling and suspended drilling of 33 exploratory wells in the Gulf.
Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama believes strongly that drilling at such depths does not make sense and puts the safety of workers "at a danger that the president does not believe we can afford."
Several companies that ferry people and supplies and provide other services to offshore drilling rigs asked U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman in New Orleans to overturn the moratorium.
They argued it was arbitrarily imposed after the April 20 explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig that killed 11 workers and blew out the well 5,000 feet underwater. It has spewed anywhere from 67 million to 127 million gallons of oil into the Gulf.
Feldman sided with the companies, saying in his ruling the Interior Department assumed that because one rig failed, all companies and rigs doing deepwater drilling pose an imminent danger.
"The Deepwater Horizon oil spill is an unprecedented, sad, ugly and inhuman disaster," he wrote. "What seems clear is that the federal government has been pressed by what happened on the Deepwater Horizon into an otherwise sweeping confirmation that all Gulf deepwater drilling activities put us all in a universal threat of irreparable harm."
His ruling prohibits federal officials from enforcing the moratorium until a trial is held. He did not set a trial date.....

Clinton comment on immigration law riles Ariz. gov
PHOENIX – Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said Thursday she's angry over comments by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton that the Obama administration will sue the state over its new immigration law.
In a June 8 media interview in Ecuador that began circulating Thursday in the U.S., Clinton said President Barack Obama thinks the federal government should determine immigration policy and that the Justice Department "will be bringing a lawsuit against the act."... It's unclear why Clinton made the comment since it's not her area. She couldn't be reached Thursday for comment.....
Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement that "this is no way to treat the people of Arizona."
"To learn of this lawsuit through an Ecuadorean interview with the secretary of state is just outrageous," she said. "If our own government intends to sue our state to prevent illegal immigration enforcement, the least it can do is inform us before it informs the citizens of another nation."
Brewer spokesman Paul Senseman said the governor was "outraged" and that Clinton's comments make it appear that the Justice Department has decided to file suit.
"But she's confident that in the end, the state of Arizona, the citizens, will prevail," he said.....

Alvin Greene tells critics they’re mentally impaired
CNN anchor Don Lemon asked South Carolina Senate candidate Alvin Greene whether he was “mentally sound” during an interview earlier today, telling him flat-out “you don’t sound okay” and asking, “Are you impaired by anything right now?”
Greene, who won his party’s nomination for Senate despite apparently skipping the entire process of campaigning, refused to discuss any criminal charges against him and reacted strongly against allegations by his colleagues that he suffers from a mental impairment.

CBS reported:Sources tell CBS News that would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad appeared on a Department of Homeland Security travel lookout list – Traveler Enforcement Compliance System (TECS) – between 1999 and 2008 because he brought approximately $80,000 cash or cash instruments into the United States.The New York Times reported that the person who bought Faisal’s apartment back in 2004 was interviewed by federal investigators.George LaMonica, a 35-year-old computer consultant, said he bought his two-bedroom condominium in Norwalk, Conn., from Mr. Shahzad for $261,000 in May 2004. A few weeks after he moved in, Mr. LaMonica said, investigators from the national Joint Terrorism Task Force [JTTF] interviewed him, asking for details of the transaction and for information about Mr. Shahzad. ABC reported:Shahzad also had a web of jihadist contacts that included big names tied to terror attacks in the U.S. and abroad, including the figure who has emerged as a central figure in many recent domestic terror attempts – radical American-born Muslim cleric Anwar Awlaki.
Besides Awlaki, sources say Shahzad was also linked to a key figure in the Pakistani Taliban, its Emir Beitullah Mehsud, who was killed in a drone missile strike in 2009. The Mehsuds had been family friends of Shahzad, who is the son of a former high-ranking Pakistani military officer.

Taxpayers filing their 1040s are likely wondering just where all their hard-earned tax dollars are going, anyway. • Washington will spend $31,406 per household in 2010 — the highest level in American history (adjusted for inflation). It will collect $18,276 per household in taxes. The remaining $13,130 represents this year's staggering budget deficit per household, which, along with all prior government debt, will be dumped in the laps of our children....Social Security/Medicare: $9,949.
Defense: $6,071.
Antipoverty programs: $5,466.
Unemployment benefits: $1,640.
Interest on the federal debt: $1,585.
Veterans' benefits: $1,052.
Education: $914.
Highways/mass transit: $613.
Health research/regulation: $550.
Mortgage Credit: $470....
The programs listed above cover $29,328 per household. The remaining $2,078 is allocated to all other federal programs, including justice, international affairs, natural resources, the environment, regional development, farm subsidies, social services, space exploration, air transportation and energy.
Taxpayers — and the next generation that will be paying nearly half of the bill — must decide for themselves if they're getting their money's worth.

Salacious Scouts: Make new sex partners and keep the old

I am a reluctant witness against the Girl Scouts. I was a Girl Scout myself, and I know of many honorable women who have devoted years of service to this program. But leaders, parents, supporters and concerned citizens need to know that something has gone very wrong with the Girl Scouts.
On March 1, while I was participating in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations, I was asked to leave a closed-door, “girls only” meeting sponsored by the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA). As soon as the meeting ended, I entered the room, and from a stack on the back table, picked up a booklet, “Healthy, Happy, and Hot,” produced by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). I was stunned as I flipped through the pages.
This offensive booklet promotes sexual pleasure to teens. It includes such statements as:
“Many people think sex is just about vaginal or anal intercourse. But, there are lots of different ways to have sex and lots of different types of sex.”
The booklet encourages masturbation and talking “dirty” and depicts both same-sex and opposite-sex couples. It also tells HIV-infected teens that they do not have to inform their sexual partners they are infected.....

Socialism Vs. Capitalism: Illustrated on Film

Although he probably didn’t mean to say this, director Godfrey Reggio’s excellent 1982 film Koyaanisqatsi has a sequence that beautifully illustrates the failure of large socialized programs vs free market capitalism. This illustration reveals why if government spending often results in poor services and bankrupt results over time.
Here’s the clip. We start with scenes of New York majesty followed by a street slum, followed by rows of project apartment buildings as urban blight. Then, at the end, we’re shown gleaming glass towers which are the product of free market capitalism. The project buildings were products of President Johnson’s war on poverty which spent billions and did exactly what you’d expect billions of tax dollars thrown at an abstract problem like poverty would do. Those apartment buildings would have gone up in the 60s. The film was shot around 1979. Less than 20 years. Think on that when you watch the clip above.
That’s government in action right there. Some of those buildings were barely 20 years old, if that. And they want to take over 1/6th of our economy, the health care business, and manage it the way they do everything else. You know, as effectively as Medicare, Social Security, The Post Office, Amtrak which are all about to go under. Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae? Failing badly. Hey, why not just show the government debt while we’re at it to see how well they run things. They’ve created trillions in debt based on promises they made. Promises made by politicians that you and your descendants would be footing these bills. They didn’t ask for your consent. Just as they are ignoring the public’s will with the health care bills.....

GENEVA -- Operators of the world's largest atom smasher on Friday ramped up their massive machine to three times the energy ever previously achieved, in the run-up to experiments probing the secrets of the universe.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research, or CERN, said beams of protons circulated at 3.5 trillion electron volts in both directions around the 17-mile tunnel housing the Large Hadron Collider under the Swiss-French border at Geneva.
The next major development is expected in a few days when CERN starts colliding the beams in a new round of research to examine the tiniest particles and forces within the atom in hopes of finding out more about how matter is made up.
The collider in December had already eclipsed the record of the next most powerful machine, the Tevatron at Fermilab outside Chicago, which has been running just shy of a trillion electron volts, or TeV.
The extra energy in Geneva is expected to reveal even more about the unanswered questions of particle physics, such as the existence of dark energy and matter. Scientists hope also to approach on a tiny scale what happened in the first split seconds after the Big Bang, which they theorize was the creation of the universe some 14 billion years ago.

.... Prior to WWII, there was the greatest generation. After WWII, there were the Baby Boomers. We had it all. From rock and roll and Elvis to birth control and the Rolling Stones. And now? There are ipods and ipads and cell phones and Blackberrys and big screen plasmas and you name it.
The only problem is, that as our nation's expenditures and debts have grown? Our population has continued to decline. Along with our jobs and manufacturing capability and our leadership stature in the world. Which means that our ability to pay for it has been slowing waning away.
And now? There is no new baby boomer generation to take up the slack, much less to maintain any equilibrium. We saw to that with Roe vs. Wade. There are an endless myriad of arguments pro and con concerning abortion in America, but one argument that you never hear made, is the effect on the nation that abortion has had. The affect to our work force, the affect to our heritage, the affect to our production capabilities and so on. And yes, the affect on social security.
Who will be paying for these programs like social security that we as a group (baby boomers) have paid into all our life. Who pays our benefits after everything that we ever contributed to has been squandered and wasted. There is nothing left for us now and there is nothing in the pipe behind us, since we saw fit to allow the killing of twenty million people. Those people would for the most part be contributing citizens today. Working and paying taxes and contributing to social security and expanding our economic base. But they aren't. They were never born. More specifically? They were killed off.
Perhaps in a perfect world their potential contributions would have been the present reality. But we gave up on our aspirations to live in a better world of peace and prosperity of life long ago. We as a nation opted to chase after Nirvana and the promises of a very real yet purposely obscured socialist agenda....

Russia Today: Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez has once again accused the United States of playing God.
But this time it's Haiti's disastrous earthquake that he thinks the U.S. was behind. Spanish newspaper ABC quotes Chavez as saying that the U.S. navy launched a weapon capable of inducing a powerful earthquake off the shore of Haiti. He adds that this time it was only a drill and the final target is ... destroying and taking over Iran.

I hope a thought provoking read. One of my favorite lines is from the Princess Bride movie when the Dread Pirate Roberts is asked, "Who are you?" His response is the response I share with you, "No one of consequence."
