The wise man, even when he holds his tongue, says more than the fool when he speaks (Yiddish Proverb).
The wise writer of Ecclesiastes tells us: “[There is] A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace” (3:7-8). For us to know the difference in each case is to display wisdom.
God, grant us the wisdom to know when to remain silent and … the ability to do so. Amen.
