Yahweh, Day 88
Day 88, Yahweh: It's His Dirt
2Kings 5:16-17 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
“But Elisha said, ‘As the Lord lives, I stand before Him.
I will not accept it.’ Naaman urged him to accept it, but he refused. Naaman
responded, ‘If not, please let two mule-loads of dirt be given to your servant,
for your servant will no longer offer a burnt offering or a sacrifice to any
other god but Yahweh.’”
Another Eastern/Oriental effort to maintain control of a
person is to 'plant' some piece of property on or near the person one is trying
to control. Naaman, by desiring to place
two donkey laden bags of dirt, is in essence attempting to place a permanent
reminder of himself in the presence of the prophet ... and thereby God.
This is another effort to control God ... the only
problem for Naaman ... and all mankind ... is that the dirt is God's to begin
with. Yahweh will not be controlled by
what is already His.
It's in The Name.
Intercessory Prayer:
Dear Father, all that we have, all that we are, all that we could ever
be or enjoy … is in You. Thank You for
Your gift to us that is of ultimate value … Jesus. In Jesus Name. Amen.
