Yahweh, Day 53

 

Day 53 Yahweh ... Fearing the Glorious and Awesome Name

Do you know what it means to fear a name?  Our Old Testament text.

Deuteronomy 28:58-59 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
"If you are not careful to obey all the words of this law, which are written in this scroll, by fearing this glorious and awesome name -Yahweh, your God - He will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants..."

First ... what is the import of fearing the Name, Yahweh?  Is it an outdated concept to Fear Yahweh ... an archaic relic of a day gone by?

With man ... perhaps it is a museum piece of a forgotten burden ... a symptom of a former strategy by a weak god … attempting to control and manipulate a rebellious creation ... and  now in our great day of enlightenment … the concept is to be trashed as thankfully … obsolete?

Many ... if not daring to say the same ... live the same ... and by their self serving lives proclaim the message without a word ... and are embraced.  What is the scriptural meaning then of fearing the name ,Yahweh?

"To fear the Lord is to hate evil." (Proverbs 8:13)

Do we know what it means to hate evil?  If not ... then we know not the fear of the Lord.

Intercessory Prayer: Oh Yahweh ... teach us the dread of Your Glorious and Awesome Name!  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
