Yahweh, Day 47

Day 47 Yahweh "Knowing" Him

We are here, in verse 9, instructed to "know" Yahweh.

Deuteronomy 7:8-9 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
..."But because the Lord loved you and kept the oath He swore to your fathers, He brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 Know that Yahweh your God is God, the faithful God who keeps His gracious covenant loyalty for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commands."

Here, the idea of "knowing" God carries the idea of more than simply intellectual knowing ... it is also experiential knowing. We see the same idea the first time the Hebrew word is used in scripture in Genesis chapter 3 ... it is used two times in the verse.

Gen 3:5-6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
"In fact, God knows that when you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

When Yahweh "knows" something you can rest assured that He has more than simple "intellectual" knowledge ... He knows things from not just he beginning ... but also He knows the end ... for Yahweh dwells not in time ... but eternity.

Yahweh knew that their eyes would be opened ... and He also knew that they would "know" both good and evil ... not just intellectually but intimately … know … good and evil.

... and they did.

In the same way we are told to "know" Yahweh.

Intercessory Prayer:  Oh Father!  That we may know You!  Not just know about You … but that we may know You … so that we can proclaim Your just praise and goodness.  This is our prayer, for Your Name’s sake.  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
