Yahweh, Day 52

Day 52 Yahweh ... Loving and Transforming

Yesterday we saw the responsibility of loving Yahweh ... and we saw Jesus restating the same need that we love Him and obey His commandments.  Our Old Testament text …

Deuteronomy 7:9 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
"Know that Yahweh your God is God, the faithful God who keeps His gracious covenant loyalty for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commands."

We discover in Matthew 11:28-30, the only place in the gospel accounts where Jesus actually describes Himself … in His character ... His personal inner being ...

"Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." (HCSB)

Did you catch the unique "self-description" our Master gives us here?  He said He was/is ... gentle and humble in heart ... and Christ tells us to learn to be like Him ... to be gentle and humble in heart.  This is a new command that joins the first one ... to love our God and His Son with all our hearts.

There is no way that one can claim to love Yahweh ... without learning to be gentle and humble in heart.

No way.

Intercessory Prayer:  Oh Father!  First we are told to love You.  Now, Lord Jesus, You tell us to learn to be like You.  How do we learn to love You?  How do we learn to actually become like You … humble and gentle?  It must be possible for You have commanded us to do so!  Help us Lord!  For Your Name’s sake … transform us into Your character … and teach us what we must do to see this happen.  Help us Lord!  In Jesus Name.  Amen.
