Yahweh, Day 282

Day 282
Yahweh: Passing Through

Amos 5:16-18 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
“Therefore Yahweh, the God of Hosts, the Lord, says: There will be wailing in all the public squares; they will cry out in anguish in all the streets. The farmer will be called on to mourn, and professional mourners to wail. 17 There will be wailing in all the vineyards, for I will pass among you. The Lord has spoken. 18 Woe to you who long for the Day of the Lord! What will the Day of the Lord be for you? It will be darkness and not light.”

A moment of reflection today.  For some it is tempting to look at the obvious sins that are rampant during our time, any time, and then decide to rail and demand that God send His judgment.  For some this is a way of setting themselves above the common citizens, placing themselves in the position of being the judge above their peers.

Yahweh here gives a rather sobering assessment of this arrogant attitude in verse 18, “Woe to you who long for the Day of the Lord!”

Friend, do you not realize that when the judgment of Yahweh falls on the culture that you live in … that you are a part of that culture … that you and your loved ones will also experience the hot displeasure of God’s hand?  We should rather strive to be salt and light, working to transform the culture, rather than calling for God to condemn our culture.

This, is in The Name.
