Yahweh: Spreads Like Fire

Amos 5:6-7
Seek Yahweh  and live,
or He will spread like fire
throughout the house of Joseph;
it will consume everything,
with no one at Bethel to extinguish it.
7 Those who turn justice into wormwood
throw righteousness to the ground.

Yahweh will spread like fire.  A powerful, sublime, and sobering picture of reality.  Both in a physical sense and likewise in a spiritual sense.  God is pictured in both Old and New Testaments in this manner.  Jesus likewise speaks in Matthew 7:19 of God consuming a worthless tree by fire.

Yahweh revealed His Name to Moses in the fiery tree in Exodus 3.  The Spirit of God would consume the accepted sacrifice with fire in the temple and tabernacle. In Deuteronomy 4 and Exodus 24 God is a consuming fire.  In Hebrews 12:29 God is a consuming fire.  In 2Chronicles 7 the fire of God fell onto the temple after Solomon’s dedicatory prayer.  In Acts 2 the fire of God fell on the disciples on Pentecost.

At the end of time the current universe will be consumed by fire.  Satan and his followers are all resigned to a lake of fire.  Jeremiah found in his 20th chapter that the Word of God was like a fire in his heart and bones which he could not restrain.
