Yahweh: ... Maintain Love, #2

Yahweh  is the God of Hosts;
Yahweh is His name.
But you must return to your God.
Maintain love and justice,
and always put your hope in God.
Hosea 12:5-6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Again, here in verse six comes what is actually a direct order from Yahweh, Maintain Love.

One of the great realities of scripture is that the love of God is more than an emotion, much more.  For Yahweh, love, is actually an integral part of His personality, or it is a characteristic of who Yahweh is.  He is therefore referred to as a God of love.

 

For we humans we are told to 'maintain' love.  The Hebrew word, maintain, is used in as a verb in the most active sense, it is something we have to work at.  God does not have to work at love because again, God is love.  When we confuse 'love' as being an emotion, this causes great confusion and harm in our relationships.  Yahweh says emphatically, maintain love.
