Yahweh: ... Maintain Love

Yahweh  is the God of Hosts;
Yahweh is His name.
But you must return to your God.
Maintain love and justice,
and always put your hope in God.
Hosea 12:5-6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Here in verse six comes what is actually a direct order from Yahweh, Maintain Love.

In Hosea 4:1 comes the initial critique of Israel and one of the major reasons for God's displeasure was that they had forsaken love, or mercy, as in some translations.  This of course is one of the major characteristics of Yahweh, He being a God of Love. To illustrate this the psalmist, in Psalm 136, describes God with this characteristic 26 times! One time in each and every verse, "His love is eternal." (HCSB)

The further one draws away from God can directly be measured by how far they have strayed away from being a person of love.  The further one draws away from God the further they slide into the pit of self centered living.
