Yahweh, Day 74

 

Day 74, Yahweh …  Honors/Defends His Name

1Kings 18:36-39 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

"Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that at Your word I have done all these things. Answer me, Lord! Answer me so that this people will know that You, Yahweh, are God and that You have turned their hearts back."

Then Yahweh's fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said, "Yahweh, He is God! Yahweh, He is God!"

Elijah understood appealing to Yahweh on behalf of His Name.  He understood that God would respond to appeals that He, Yahweh, would verify and establish the significance and importance of His Name.  This is what Jesus taught us to pray in the model prayer in Matthew 6:9 “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy." (HCSB)  This is praying to God, for God’s Name’s sake.

This is the person God is looking for ... the understanding required to be "Mighty in Spirit."

Intercessory Prayer:  Oh Yahweh!  In the hearts of Your people, purchased with the precious blood of Your Son, teach us to pray as Christ taught us.  Teach us to pray to You, for the protection and advancement of Your Name.  Give us a heart that is set on Your glory, and Your fame, and Your renown.  Give us a heart that is more concerned for Your desires than we are concerned for our creature comforts.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
