Appeal for an Awakening

"Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that at Your word I have done all these things. Answer me, Lord! Answer me so that this people will know that You, Yahweh, are God and that You have turned their hearts back."

Then Yahweh's fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said, "Yahweh, He is God! Yahweh, He is God!"
1Kings 18:36-39 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Elijah knows that one aspect of Yahweh's power is that only God has the prerogative of turning His people's hearts back to Himself. Notice carefully the statement:

"Answer me, Lord! Answer me so that this people will know that You, Yahweh, are God and that You have turned their hearts back."

Truly... only God can turn hearts back.

As Jesus said twice in the gospel of John chapter 6:44 and 65:

"No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.... This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless it is granted to him by the Father."

An Awakening is the function of God's grace... and we would do well to beg Yahweh to do the same today.

It is an appeal that should be directed to God... for the glory of His Name/Reputation. As the people responded, "Yahweh... He is God!"
