Yahweh: ... Maintain Justice

Yahweh  is the God of Hosts;
Yahweh is His name.
But you must return to your God.
Maintain love and justice,
and always put your hope in God.
Hosea 12:5-6 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

Next we are told to 'maintain justice'.

 

In Isaiah 45:21 Yahweh joins together the relationship between 'justice' and 'savior'.  He is both a God of justice and a savior.  We often segregate the two realities, justice being thought of as administering a judicial sentence ... and savior as being relieving one of a judicial sentence.  

 

For Yahweh however, the two realities go together, serve together.  The idea of savior is one of bringing relief and deliverance ... and for Yahweh ... justice is most often used in the same sense in scripture ... justice being God moving on behalf of the weak or oppressed person or party.  Thus we have Jesus speaking of "the least of these" as being a litmus test of sorts ... caring for those least able to care for or to defend themselves.  

 

This is the dominate view of God's justice at work in scripture.
