Mullin Argues Mediocrity over Meritocracy

Today... at The Borg Conspiracy

Admiral Michael Mullen (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff) is clearly on board with the egalitarian politburo that now passes for military leadership in America.

Military members who have a problem with a change in policy to allow gays to serve openly may find themselves looking for a new job, Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, warned Thursday.

Mullen told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that the military is based on meritocracy, "what you do, not who you are." He said if Congress changes the don't ask, don't tell policy then the U.S. military will comply.
And if some people have a problem with that, they may not want to join the service.
"Should repeal occur, some soldiers and Marines may want separate shower facilities. Some may ask for different berthing. Some may even quit the service," Mullen said. "We'll deal with that."
Mullen added that "there is no gray area" in the debate when it comes to standards of conduct in the military.
"We treat each other with respect or we find another place to work. Period," he said.

Listening to the man speak and reviewing his words makes it plain to me where his loyalties and allegiances truly lie and they obviously don't lie with true service or commitment to this nation.

We treat each other with respect? Or we find another place to work? Really admiral, is that your best defense for an indefensible and detrimental policy that you have to know will harm this nation's military?

Here is a clue admiral Mullen. The United States military services, are not 'just some place to work.' They are each an honored corps of individuals, who have sworn allegiance to this nation and they have sworn an oath to protect it. So maybe it's just me admiral? But I believe that somehow that makes it a wee bit different than simply a job.

Somehow? I believe that as it concerns homosexuals serving openly in the military? That there are going to be a lot of Americans that are as you say admiral..."going to have a problem with that." And as a result, not only are we going to lose good people to this grandiose egalitarian ruse, but we will no longer be able to recruit those who otherwise might have chosen a military career. Or at least they might have chosen one tour of duty in support of their country.

You are right on one count admiral....there are no gray areas in the military, but the creation of "gay areas" in the military and flag officers supporting it, will certainly spell the degradation of over two centuries of honored service by those who have gone before. And here is another clue admiral. There were and have always been homosexuals in the American military during its entire history. They difference being? They just never sought to fulfill some individual need to wear their sexuality on their sleeve and have it supported by the commander in chief and the joint chiefs, as if it were some badge of exclusivity or honor.

Yes admiral, there will be more than a few now who will opt to quite military service. And their numbers will be matched and surpassed by those who will now refuse to consider military service as an option under these circumstances. And yes, you will deal with it in the limited time that you have left, spent further disgracing your uniform as no more than a plebe to your egalitarian masters.

Meanwhile, all you have accomplished is to become a co-conspirator to those who are further tearing down this country. In my day, we were taught that regardless of our feelings for the man, what we were saluting was the uniform.

I believe those times have changed admiral. When there are those who can so willingly besmirch their uniform, by failing to stand for duty, honor and country? Then I for one believe they deserve no salutes. Nor does the uniform that they have intentionally disgraced by their actions.

It is fairly difficult to maintain an all volunteer military... esp during times of war as today's reality... if they repeal "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and start PC speak in our military that will be devastating to the ranks.

Of course... that is exactly what progressives desire.

The social experimentation began under Clinton with the opening up of most military billets (even combat billets) to the interests of "equity". Second verse, same as the first....

I always thought that is was our "distinctions" that made things... interesting/appealing/beautiful.

Would be pretty boring for all to be the... same.
