Daily Nugget

Thursday, February 21st, 2013. Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

“When some men discharge an obligation, you can hear the report for miles around” (Mark Twain).

The repercussions of broken vows and promises have far reaching consequences.  In a world where commitment has become elusive, if not close to an extinct character trait, it is refreshing to find someone who stands firm in his convictions.

The writer of James 5:11-12 has this to say: “Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.”

God, help us to become that man or women who consistently stands firm in our commitments.  Amen.
