When a nation begins to eliminate population at the inception of life, the natural progression is to try to control it by eliminating the elderly. Both projects are just symptoms of lack of respect for life. The writer of Deuteronomy 30:19 says,

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”

"God, help us when we try to choose death either for us or others.
