Yahweh... with an Outstretched Arm

This is the picture of not just reaching out to humanity... and not just reaching out to specific members of humanity... which is and was a revolutionary concept in and of itself... that The Yahweh would actually reach out to a human creature... the Eternal One reaching into the physical world of corruption... but with much greater wonder we consider this reaching out... that thing which we call... adoption.

We saw yesterday the three-fold character of God presented in our Genesis text... now... the Angel of God says that he reaches out with an outstretched arm to redeem... this redemption being not simply the basic act of redemption... the buying back what had been lost... but the Genesis account gives us greater understanding of the greatness of Yahweh's heart in that this is also a powerful picture of... adoption.

Yahweh the Eternal One... is reaching out to humans... a divine act, and picture, of adoption... brought into the "family" of the Very Yahweh... with full privileges and inheritance.

That is the picture of redemption in Genesis 48:16-17 "The Angel who has redeemed me... may they be called by my name.. saw that his father had placed his right hand on Ephraim's head..."

Exodus 6:6 "Therefore tell the Israelites; I am Yahweh, and I will deliver you from the forced labor of the Egyptians and free you from slavery to them. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and great acts of judgment." (HCSB)
