It appears that President Karzai is losing confidence in the coalition forces to defeat the Taliban... so... he is trying to pacify the Taliban and arch-rival Pakistan on his own?

This... if true... will set Afghanistan back 200 years in her efforts to become a viable nation involved in the advancement of the human race.

New York Times article
Karzai Is Said to Doubt West Can Defeat Taliban

KABUL, Afghanistan — Two senior Afghan officials were showing President Hamid Karzai the evidence of the spectacular rocket attack on a nationwide peace conference earlier this month when Mr. Karzai told them that he believed the Taliban were not responsible.

“The president did not show any interest in the evidence — none — he treated it like a piece of dirt,” said Amrullah Saleh, then the director of the Afghan intelligence service.

Mr. Saleh declined to discuss Mr. Karzai’s reasoning in more detail. But a prominent Afghan with knowledge of the meeting, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Mr. Karzai suggested in the meeting that it might have been the Americans who carried it out.

Minutes after the exchange, Mr. Saleh and the interior minister, Hanif Atmar, resigned — the most dramatic defection from Mr. Karzai’s government since he came to power nine years ago. Mr. Saleh and Mr. Atmar said they quit because Mr. Karzai made clear that he no longer considered them loyal.

But underlying the tensions, according to Mr. Saleh and Afghan and Western officials, was something more profound: That Mr. Karzai had lost faith in the Americans and NATO to prevail in Afghanistan....

... So... the President wants to appease his great enemy... and shun his friends... friends that have shed precious blood on his soil... for his citizens?

This is bad blood and will not bode well for Afghanistan... and is a violation of natural law... such as a weakened immune system trying to appease an infectious disease... instead of working to destroy the disease. Can the body appease cancer with confidence?

I think not... the cancer must be destroyed. This is not a day for appeasement... not for Afghanistan... nor the United States.

Afghanistan is probably the closest thing there is to living in the 7th century right now. Tribal leaders is all they have and all that they want.

Than and to be able to be left alone to grow their heroin poppies, so that the Taliban can finance their global Jihad.

That is why all this warm and fuzzy Sesame Street BS isn't working and never is going to work.

These people recognize and respect one thing and one thing only.....raw aggressive power and those who wield it.

I say it's time for us to either get the hell out of their period, or start making arrangements for mass meetings with Allah and a complete run on his virgins supply.

Sorry, but I am one of Georgy Patton's students of war. It's not our job to die for our country. It's our job to make the other poor dumb bastard die for his.

And there hasn't been a lot of that happening ever since WWII ended if you ask me.

This seems to be a war/conflict that we can't walk away from... not for long anyway.

I'm in agreement with you that we need to stay the course until the task is totally done... totally.
