Day 79
Yahweh

The Role of a Servant

"Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, today let it be known that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that at Your word I have done all these things. Answer me, Lord! Answer me so that this people will know that You, Yahweh, are God and that You have turned their hearts back."

Then Yahweh's fire fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. When all the people saw it, they fell facedown and said, "Yahweh, He is God! Yahweh, He is God!"

1Kings 18:36-39 (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

We tend to look down on the idea of being a "servant."

For us the idea is demeaning... the idea of being a servant... but not really so demeaning in Israel... for to the Hebrew mind it was an honor to serve in the King's court... it was an honor to serve the King.

For Elijah to refer to himself as the servant of Yahweh... what an honor and what a place of humble recognition.... a dream that was really unthinkable to mortal man.

Could we raise our heads to grasp the honor of the title, "Servant of Yahweh"... then could we for just a moment consider actually embracing the idea?
