The Chaplain's Corner

Guest blogger, Chaplain Paul, is one of the most effective chaplains in America today. He is an emergency responder to every situation.

Hey, this is the Chaplain again.

On Sunday afternoon almost 100,000,000 people will be watching the Super Bowl. I’ll bet even the President will be watching. All those folks will be cheering for their team and their favorite players. And the athletes tell us that the cheers from the crowd help to motivate them to give a 110%.

Now, none of us will ever get to play in the Super Bowl. But each of us, as Christians, are playing a much more important game than the Super Bowl. We are players in the game of eternity. And the Bible reminds us that there is a great crowd of witnesses cheering us on. The writer of Hebrews says this,
“… all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. … and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in.”
(Hebrews 12:1-2 The Msg.)
Right now there are millions of saints cheering for us. When I make a fumble, and we all do, I need to stop and listen for those heavenly voices encouraging me to get up and go again.

The oddsmakers in Vegas predict the Saints will lose at the Super Bowl. But listen, I have inside information. In the game of eternity, His Saints will win! I’m on the winning team, are you?
