Russia gave us a good deal on Alaska?

This may prove to be a little more prophetic than realized at first glance. There would be some irony if Alaska's soon to be former governor made a credible move toward the White House.

No real prediction here... just an observation.

It is of note how much the left fears/loathes Sarah.

We should have a new clinical disorder... Saraphobiacs.

Obama thanks Russia for 'good deal' on Alaska

MOSCOW (AFP) – US President Barack Obama on Tuesday thanked Russia for giving the United States a "good deal" on Alaska when it purchased the northern territory, now a US state, in 1867.

"Before we ever exchanged ambassadors, we exchanged goods," Obama said at a US-Russia business forum in Moscow, which he addressed as part of a state visit to the Russian capital.

"Along the way you gave us a pretty good deal on Alaska. Thank you," Obama said to laughter from the audience.

The United States purchased Alaska in 1867 for 7.2 million dollars in gold after the government of Russia's Tsar Alexander II determined it was losing money on the colony.

At the time, Americans mocked the purchase as "Seward's Icebox" after US Secretary of State William Seward, who arranged it. But the discovery decades later of gold and oil in Alaska turned public opinion in favour of the deal.
