On July 8th, 1663, the King of England granted the following charter to Rhode Island.

Among other things the charter gives one of the functions of government in the new America.

Rhode Island Secretary of State

"...And that they may be in the better capacity to defend themselves, in their just rights and liberties, against all the enemies of the Christian faith."

Too often today it seems that government sets itself to considering the Christian faith as the enemy of the state.

We've come a long way.
