Daily Nugget

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011.

Today's cherished Nugget from guest blogger Pastor Bill.

In September 1989, ten thousand East Germans fled to West Germany. Though they could look across the barbed wire and see West Germany, they had to flee first to Hungary and then through Austria to West Germany. It was a long and roundabout way to freedom.

The road to freedom from guilt and sin leads us by way of Golgotha. An old hymn, written long ago by Jessie B. Pounds, is a great reminder of that trek: “I must needs go home by the way of the cross. There’s no other way but this.”

When we first look to the cross, we are that close to freedom. The apostle Paul gives us this advice in Galatians 5:1:
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

"God, thank You for the freedoms we enjoy in You.
Amen."
